  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Scores three times Monday

Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk an RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 8-7 loss to the Angels.

Rizzo got things rolling quickly Monday with an RBI double to left his first time up to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. He would later score that inning and scored each of the two other times he reached base. Rizzo had been struggling to a .156/.222/.188 slash line over the last nine games entering Monday's contest since returning from the COVID-19 injured list Aug. 18. The team is hoping it can continue to roll with him at first base but the Yankees have Luke Voit on deck if Rizzo's struggles persist.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Goes yard twice Monday

Guerrero went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Monday's 7-3 win over the Orioles.

The young slugger followed up a fourth-inning solo shot with a three-run blast in the seventh, as he opened and closed the scoring on the night for the Jays. Guerrero had only one homer in his prior 19 games and hadn't had a multi-homer performance since the first day after the All-Star break, but he still sports a .313/.407/.599 slash line on the season with 38 home runs, 95 RBI and an MLB-leading 97 runs.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Belts homer No. 25

Mountcastle went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays.

He gave the O's an early 1-0 lead with a solo shot off Robbie Ray in the first inning. Mountcastle has gone yard in back-to-back games and six times in 13 contests since returning to action from a concussion in mid-August. He sports a .269/.316/.504 slash line with 25 homers and 73 RBI through 114 games this season.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Homers again

Dalbec went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's 6-1 loss to the Rays.

Dalbec's bat has come alive of late. The rookie corner infielder has hit in five consecutive games, including four homers over the last four. He's been Boston's primary first baseman, but hitting woes throughout the season prompted a platoon that limited him to left-handers at various points. That hasn't been the case the last two games, though, as Dalbec started against righties Sunday and Monday, likely due to a resurgent bat. He's hit .345 during the month of August and climbed to .238 for the season, his highest point since mid-April.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Not starting Monday

Voit is out of the lineup Monday against the Angels.

Voit started the past three games and will take a seat after going 2-for-11 with a solo homer and six strikeouts in that stretch. Giancarlo Stanton will serve as the designated hitter while Brett Gardner joins the outfield mix Monday.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Productive in loss

Mountcastle went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and three total runs scored in Sunday's 12-8 loss to Tampa Bay.

The first baseman had an impressive showing after going 0-for-7 across the first two games versus the Rays in the weekend series. Mountcastle has homered seven times in 17 games in August, giving him 24 for the year. He's added a ,349/.386/.762 slash line this month with 14 RBI and 13 runs scored.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Crushes solo shot

Dalbec went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-5 loss to Cleveland.

The first baseman has made the most of his playing time lately, going 6-for-11 with three home runs, eight RBI and four runs scored across his last four games. Dalbec is slashing .237/.292/.462 with 17 homers, 60 RBI, 38 runs scored and a stolen base through 360 plate appearances. He's on the short side of a platoon with Travis Shaw at first base, and while he started at third base Friday, there's little chance Dalbec unseats Rafael Devers from a regular role at the hot corner.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Starts again, may get more DH work

Voit will start at first base and bat fifth Sunday against the Athletics.

Voit's rest-of-season outlook appeared to take a significant hit when the Yankees acquired another established everyday first baseman in Anthony Rizzo on July 29, but the former will close out the weekend with three consecutive starts. Though he'll displace the slumping Rizzo at first base Sunday, the designated hitter spot looks like it'll be Voit's ticket to holding down a semi-regular role in the lineup. Though Giancarlo Stanton has occupied the DH spot for the majority of the season, manager Aaron Boone has increased Stanton's exposure to the outfield of late in an effort for the Yankees to trot out all of their top hitters. Stanton started in right field both of the past two games, allowing Voit to get a pair of turns at DH.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Sits Sunday amid struggles

Rizzo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

After posting a .963 OPS in his first nine games with the Yankees before landing on the COVID-19 injured list earlier this month, Rizzo has struggled to recapture his prior form upon returning to the active roster. In his eight games since being activated, Rizzo is slashing .161/.229/.194 with one extra-base hit (a double). The Yankees aren't yet ready to pull the plug on him as their everyday first baseman, but with a quality backup option on hand in Luke Voit, Rizzo could begin to see more than one day off per week if his bat doesn't start heating up soon.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Royals' Carlos Santana: Sitting in second straight game

Santana (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

After missing three straight games with a Grade 1 right hip flexor, Santana returned to the lineup for Friday's 8-7 win in 12 innings, but he aggravated the injury in that contest and will now be on the bench for the second day in a row. Hunter Dozier will fill in at first base for Santana, who should be viewed as day-to-day heading into the Royals' upcoming six-game week.
