Guardians' Rhys Hoskins: Homers in loss

Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 9-3 loss to Houston.

Hoskins helped the Guardians overcome an early deficit with a two-run home run as part of a three-run third inning. The homer was the seventh of the season and first in 11 games for Hoskins, who entered the contest having gone 3-for-26 with zero RBI and 15 strikeouts over the previous 10 games. For the season, he's slashing .179/.318/.370 over 214 plate appearances.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Goes yard again Friday

Rice went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 5-0 win over the Reds.

The 27-year-old slugger took Rhett Lowder deep in the second inning to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead. Rice has hit safely in six straight games, launching three homers during that span, and the hot streak has boosted his slash line on the season to .294/.389/.616 with 21 long balls, 52 RBI, 54 runs and two steals in 69 contests.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Orioles' Pete Alonso: Goes deep in loss

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Alonso went just 1-for-10 with six strikeouts during the Orioles' series in Seattle earlier this week. He bounced back with the homer Friday, his fourth long ball in his last nine games. For the season, the star first baseman is batting .247 with a .798 OPS, 17 homers, 49 RBI, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles and two stolen bases over 77 contests in his first year with Baltimore.

  • Vaughn Grissom 1B | LAA

    Angels' Vaughn Grissom: Sitting Friday

Grissom isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Grissom will get a break Friday after going 1-for-7 with a walk across his first two games back from the injured list. Oswald Peraza will start at the keystone and bat fourth.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Leaves Friday's game with injury

Guerrero was removed from Friday's contest versus the Cubs in the sixth inning with an apparent back/side injury, Sportsnet reports.

Vlad Jr. popped out on the first pitch of the top of the sixth inning and immediately grabbed at his back/left side area before jogging slowly to first base. He was removed from the game prior to the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Jays should offer more on Guerrero's condition soon. He was hitless in three plate appearances before departing.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Ends power drought Thursday

Guerrero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.

The first baseman launched the first pitch he saw from Sonny Gray over the Green Monster in the first inning, giving the Blue Jays a quick lead in an eventual 4-3 victory. It was Guerrero's first long ball since May 17, snapping a 24-game drought, and just his fourth of the year -- a concerning total for a player who averaged 31.8 homers over the prior five seasons. There's still plenty of time left in the campaign for Guerrero to go on a tear and get his power numbers back to their usual level, and Thursday's blast might have been the first sign a summer surge is on its way.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: On bench versus lefty

Schanuel is not in the starting lineup for Thursday night's contest against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Schanuel will ride the pine for the second straight game as the Angels face southpaw Gage Jump on the mound in the series opener. Vaughn Grissom will draw a second start in a row at first base, batting fourth versus the A's.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Mariners' Josh Naylor: Back in lineup

Naylor (shin/wrist) will start at first base and bat third Thursday against the Orioles.

Naylor missed the Mariners' last two games while dealing with a bruised shin and sore wrist, but both issues appear to have subsided ahead of Thursday's series finale. The 28-year-old has been heating up this month, slashing .250/.308/.500 with three homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored over 12 games since June 1.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Keeps mashing

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run against the White Sox in a 10-5 win Wednesday.

Goldschmidt gave New York a 9-3 lead in the fifth inning with a three-run blast to right field. The long ball was his second in as many days and his third over his past four contests. Goldschmidt is working on a nine-game hitting streak, during which he's slashing .410/.429/.718 with four homers, 13 RBI and four runs. He's been batting leadoff against left-handed starters, giving the Yankees a potent bat at the top of the lineup.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Guardians' Rhys Hoskins: Claiming sixth straight start

Hoskins will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Brewers.

Hoskins appeared to be stuck in the short side of a platoon with Kyle Manzardo to begin June, but the former will have a clearer path to an everyday role after the Guardians placed all of Jose Ramirez (hand), Chase DeLauter (rib) and Angel Martinez (foot) on the injured list within the past four days. The Guardians will include Hoskins in the lineup for a sixth straight game after he went 3-for-20 with two doubles and a run scored in his prior five starts.
