  • The Padres placed Mize on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a sprained right ankle. Mize struggled mightily during his start Friday against Arizona, coughing up seven runs in only four innings, and his ankle injury may help to explain his poor showing. He'll now be forced to sit out through the end of the NLDS, and the Padres will recall Griffin Canning in a corresponding move to add to their bullpen depth.

  • Padres' Casey Mize: Awful in 10th loss
    • By RotoWire

Mize (6-10) allowed seven runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out one over four innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Friday. Mize gave up a home run in each of the first three innings. In his 10 starts as a Padre, he's posted a 7.46 ERA with 13 home runs allowed over 44.2 innings. He posted a 4.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 110:38 K:BB through 131.1 innings over 26 regular-season starts, but given his recent form, it'll be tough for San Diego to trust him with a start in the wild-card round.

  • Mize allowed five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two over three innings in a no-decision versus the Marlins on Saturday. Mize has allowed 14 runs in 17.2 innings across his four starts in September. Saturday's outing was a particular low point for the right-hander, as the five walks were a season high. Overall, he has a 3.96 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 109:36 K:BB through 127.1 innings over 25 starts, but he's at a 6.64 ERA across 40.2 innings since being acquired by the Padres. Mize is tentatively projected to make his last start of the regular season at home versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Padres' Casey Mize: Picks up sixth win
    • By RotoWire

Mize (6-9) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Rockies. He did not record a strikeout. Mize permitted plenty of traffic on the bases but ultimately limited the damage enough at Coors Field to pick up the win. The right-hander has struggled since joining the Padres, posting a 5.97 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB in 37.2 innings (eight starts) with his new team. With an overall 3.69 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 107:31 K:BB across 124.1 innings (24 starts), Mize is tentatively scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Marlins.
