Rockies' Thairo Estrada: Rockies decline mutual option
1h agoColorado declined it's mutual option with Estrada (hamstring) for the 2026 season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Harding notes that Estrada is eligible for arbitration, so he'll remain on the club's 40-man roster for the moment. Estrada appeared in only 39 games in 2025 due to various injuries, including a hamstring issue that forced him to be shut down for nearly the last two months of the regular season. He slashed .253/.285/.370 with three home runs, 21 RBI, one stolen base and 14 runs scored.

Red Sox's Hunter Dobbins: Beginning throwing progression
8h agoDobbins (knee) has been cleared to start a full throwing program, the pitcher revealed on his X account Monday.
Dobbins blew out the ACL in his right knee in mid-July and had surgery, but he's expected to have a normal offseason and show up to spring training without restrictions. The right-hander posted a 4.13 ERA and 45:17 K:BB through 61 innings with the big club in 2025 and could compete for a spot in Boston's 2026 rotation.

Royals' James McArthur: Begins throwing program
9h agoMcArthur (elbow) has begun a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
McArthur missed the entire 2025 season following surgery last offseason to address an olecranon fracture in his right elbow. He required a follow-up procedure in July to remove one of the two screws inserted into the elbow and only just recently was cleared to throw again. McArthur is scheduled for a follow-up appointment in mid-November to make sure his elbow is healing as expected.

Royals' Kris Bubic: Cleared to begin throwing
9h agoBubic (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program in November, MLB.com reports.
Bubic missed nearly all of the second half after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain, but he avoided surgery and is ready to resume throwing. While the left-hander currently appears on track for a normal offseason, the nature of the injury points to Bubic being a risky health proposition. The 28-year-old was having a breakout season before getting hurt, putting up a 2.55 ERA and 116:39 K:BB over 116.1 innings covering 20 starts.

Royals' Lucas Erceg: Aims for clearance to throw
9h agoErceg (shoulder) will undergo imaging Monday in hopes of being cleared to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Erceg landed on the 15-day injured list in mid-September due to a right shoulder impingement. As long as scans Monday come back clean, the reliever should have a normal offseason. Erceg notched two saves and 22 holds for the Royals in 2025 and is slated to enter the 2026 campaign in a setup role.

9h agoBerger (elbow) was cleared in November to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
Bergert missed the last couple weeks of the regular season with a right elbow strain, but he's fully recovered and will enter spring training without limitations, barring any setbacks. The 25-year-old posted a 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025 between the Padres and Royals and will have a chance to open the 2026 campaign in the major-league rotation.

10h agoThe Brewers declined Jansen's $12 million mutual option for 2026 on Monday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
He'll be given a $500,000 buyout instead. Jansen slashed .215/.321/.399 with 14 home runs over 98 regular-season contests between the Rays and Brewers in 2025 and the 30-year-old catcher will now enter the free-agent market.

16h agoGarver will become a free agent after the Mariners declined the $12 million mutual option in his contract Sunday.
Garver will be paid a $1 million buyout and enter the free-agent market. The 34-year-old slashed only .187/.290/.341 across 201 regular-season games during his two seasons in Seattle. Garver is a career .255/.358/.474 hitter against left-handed pitching, so he should be able to land a job as a short-side platoon bat this winter.

Dodgers' Will Smith: Clubs game-winning homer in Game 7
2d agoSmith went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Saturday in a 5-4 extra-innings win in Game 7 of the World Series versus Toronto.
Smith scored Los Angeles' first run of the game in the fourth inning when he led off the frame with a double and eventually came home on a Teoscar Hernandez sacrifice fly. The All-Star catcher then came through with the biggest hit of his career in the top of the 11th inning, clubbing a two-out solo homer that proved to be the winning run as the Dodgers repeated as champions. Smith ended up catching all 73 innings of the series, setting a World Series record. He recorded at least one hit in six of the seven contests, batting .267 overall with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored.

Kirk made an early exit from Game 6 on Friday after getting hit on his left hand by a pitch. X-rays on his hand came back negative shortly after the game, and he'll officially remain in the starting nine for the final game of the World Series. Kirk has slashed .265/.361/.482 with five homers, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored across 77 plate appearances this postseason.

Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Headed for X-rays
3d agoKirk will undergo X-rays on his left hand after getting hit by a pitch in Game 6 of the World Series on Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Kirk took an 85-mph splitter off his hand in the ninth inning of Friday's contest and was immediately replaced on the bases by a pinch runner. The Jays are optimistic that the 26-year-old backstop avoided a significant injury, but they'll send him in for imaging as a precaution. If Kirk is unable to start in the final game of the World Series on Saturday, Tyler Heineman would get the nod at catcher.

The Nationals removed Alfaro from their 40-man roster, and the veteran catcher declared free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment. Alfaro slashed .256/.256/.308 in 14 games with the Nats this season and will likely have to settle for a minor-league contract this winter.

Pete Alonso: Officially opts out of contract
12h agoAlonso became a free agent Monday after opting out of his contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Alonso wound up having to settle for a two-year, $54 million contract with the Mets last offseason, but he had the ability to opt out after the first year of that deal and has unsurprisingly done just that. The first baseman slashed .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs and 126 RBI for the Mets in 2025. Alonso is not eligible to receive a qualifying offer this offseason, which should help his market.

White Sox's Tim Elko: Out eight months after ACL surgery
6d agoElko is expected to be sidelined for eight months following surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Elko was diagnosed with a right knee sprain July 11 and was sidelined for three-plus weeks. He did not miss any additional time after that during the 2025 season, but a recent medical exam evidently revealed the need for surgery. With Elko slated to be out until around midseason of next year, he'll likely open the campaign on the 60-day injured list.

With the Blue Jays down 1-0 in the top of the third inning and Nathan Lukes standing on first, Guerrero hit a 395-foot shot off Shohei Ohtani to give Toronto a lead that it wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. The 26-year-old slugger has now belted seven home runs in the postseason and sports a monstrous 1.306 OPS through 74 plate appearances.

Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Plays hero in Game 3
7d agoFreeman went 2-for-7 with solo home run, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in Monday's 6-5 victory in Game 3 of the World Series against the Blue Jays.
Freeman came up clutch in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4 on an RBI single to right field, though his biggest moment would come much later in the evening. Freeman stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 18th inning and cracked a solo home run to dead center, propelling the Dodgers to a 2-1 series lead. He's scuffled to a 3-for-13 start to the series but perhaps Monday's key blow will help him gain some juice at the dish heading into Tuesday's Game 4.

France has been sidelined since the last week of the regular season with a left oblique strain, but he's recovered from that injury and the Blue Jays have elected to include him on their roster for the Fall Classic. The 31-year-old is likely to be used in a reserve role.

Kieboom spent the vast majority of 2025 with the Angels' Triple-A affiliate, slashing .319/.368/.449 with nine homers, 57 RBI, 48 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 93 games. He was up in the majors for the final days of the regular season, appearing in three games. The 28-year-old will now enter the offseason with the freedom to sign with whichever team he chooses, though he will almost certainly have to settle for a minor-league contract.

Tigers' Gleyber Torres: Undergoes sports hernia surgery
4d agoTorres underwent surgery Friday to repair a sports hernia on his left side, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Torres played through the injury for the final month of the regular season and playoffs, and the operation was anticipated. The expectation is that Torres will be cleared for baseball activities in four weeks, which would give him plenty of time to gear up for spring training. Torres is an impending free agent after slashing .256/.358/.387 with 16 home runs and an 85:101 BB:K over 145 regular-season contests for the Tigers.

                            Tommy Edman LAD 2B
Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Offseason ankle surgery possible
8d agoEdman said Saturday that he and the Dodgers will "probably evaluate" whether he should undergo offseason surgery on his nagging right ankle injury, DodgersBeat.com reports.
Edman first injured his ankle in June 2024 on a rehab assignment when he was still a member of the Cardinals. He's aggravated it multiple times since then, leading to a pair of stints on the injured list this season. While Edman noted Saturday that his ankle is currently "feeling really good," the Dodgers have been limiting the super utility player to second base due to concern over the injury flaring up again. If it's decided after the World Series that ankle surgery is needed, Edman could get a late start to the 2026 season. The lingering ankle problem could be the main cause in Edman's lack of activity on the basepaths the last two years. After averaging 29.7 steals per season from 2021-to-2023 with the Cardinals, Edman has just nine stolen bases in 10 attempts during his 134 games as a Dodger, and he's also seen his sprint speed drop off the last two seasons.

Red Sox's Kristian Campbell: Will focus on adding strength
8d agoRed Sox director of player development Brian Abraham said recently that adding strength will be "a big focus" for Campbell this offseason, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Campbell lost weight during the season -- which is fairly typical, particularly for young players -- and the Red Sox believe that contributed to a dip in how hard he was able to impact the ball. It was a disappointing rookie campaign for Campbell, who finished with a .223/.319/.345 batting line over 67 games for the Red Sox before spending the final three-plus months in the minors. The 23-year-old will compete in spring training for a spot on Boston's Opening Day roster. Campbell is primarily a second baseman, but he also saw playing time in the outfield for the Red Sox and was introduced to first base at Triple-A Worcester.

Donovan had dealt with a nagging groin issue for much of the second half before eventually being shut down. Last week's operation should not affect his availability for the beginning of spring training, barring any setbacks. Alex Bregman: Becomes free agent after opting out
15h agoBregman became a free agent after opting out of his contract Monday, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Bregman's decision to pass on his $40 million player options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons had been considered a foregone conclusion. He is not going to net that amount on an annual basis on the free-agent market, but the 31-year-old has eyes on a lucrative long-term contract. Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers over 114 regular-season games in 2025 with Boston. The Red Sox are likely to be aggressive in their efforts to re-sign the third baseman, but Bregman will have many suitors.

Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Plays center field in winter ball
6d agoLawlar played center field Tuesday in his first game with Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League.
Lawlar has never played the outfield as a pro, but he's being introduced to center field in winter ball as the Diamondbacks evaluate how the 23-year-old fits into their roster picture for 2026. The former top prospect is a shortstop by trade, but that position is being held down by Geraldo Perdomo with the big club. Lawlar played some third base last season for the Diamondbacks, but manager Torey Lovullo shied away from him down the stretch during their playoff push due to defense, instead preferring Blaze Alexander there. The hot corner is still an option for Lawlar, but a successful transition to outfield would solve a problem for the Diamondbacks, who will be without Lourdes Gurriel (knee) for most of the season. Lawlar's offensive potential is considered better than that of either Alek Thomas or Jake McCarthy.

Muncy delivered a big insurance run in the seventh frame with a solo blast to left field two batters after teammate Will Smith broke a 1-1 tie with a solo shot of his own. The homer was Muncy's second hit of the World Series after he went 1-for-4 with a single in Game 1. The third baseman figures to be an every-game presence in the lineup during the series since Toronto is unlikely to deploy any left-handed starters.

With the bases loaded, Barger slugged a 413-foot home run into center field off lefty Anthony Banda, marking the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history. The 25-year-old Barger has gone deep in two of his last three playoff games and is slashing .324/.405/.622 through 42 plate appearances in the postseason.

After Kim slashed just .234/.304/.345 in 48 games for Tampa Bay and Atlanta in 2025, it was not a given that he would opt out of the $16 million he was owed in 2026. However, the 30-year-old ultimately has decided to test out the free-agent market. Atlanta has a hole at shortstop, so it will likely make an effort to re-sign Kim, but he'll now be free to negotiate with all teams.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Begins jogging after knee surgery
16h agoWinn has begun jogging and said the pain is gone in his surgically repaired right knee, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn -- who won his first National League Gold Glove on Sunday -- is just over a month removed from surgery to repair a torn meniscus and said he can already "really feel the difference" in the knee. The 23-year-old is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training. Winn slashed a disappointing .253/.310/.363 with nine home runs and nine stolen bases across 537 plate appearances in 2025, though the downturn in his production can likely be blamed in part due to having to play through nagging soreness in his knee for several months.

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Belts big World Series homer
2d agoBichette went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk against the Dodgers on Saturday in an extra-innings loss in Game 7 of the World Series.
Bichette put the Blue Jays on the board with a three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning. For much of the game it looked like that would be the knockout blow en route to a Toronto championship, but Los Angeles staged a late comeback and ultimately pulled off the victory in 11 innings. Bichette missed seven weeks coming into the World Series due to a knee injury, but he was included on the World Series roster and started six of the seven games. He didn't show any rust, batting .348 with the home run, six RBI, two runs and four walks over 27 plate appearances.

Aaron Schunk: Elects free agency
3d agoSchunk cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Schunk appeared in just 16 games for the Rockies in 2025 and managed to slash just .188/.188/.219 across 33 plate appearances. His Triple-A performance (.829 OPS over 90 games) was much better, however, and could be enough to buy the 28-year-old infielder another opportunity this winter -- likely on a minor-league contract.

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Not anticipating knee surgery
3d agoBichette said Friday that he does not expect to require surgery this offseason to repair a PCL sprain in his left knee, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Bichette was diagnosed with a sprained knee in early September and missed seven weeks of action before rejoining the Blue Jays' roster for the World Series. He has been noticeably gimpy, but Bichette expects his knee injury to heal with rest. The impending free agent slashed .311/.357/.483 over 139 regular-season games and is 5-for-16 at the plate so far in the World Series.

Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Picks up player option
12h agoGurriel (knee) exercised his $13 million player option for 2026 on Monday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Gurriel had right ACL surgery in September and will miss at least the first couple months of the 2026 season, which made picking up his option a fairly easy decision. The 32-year-old outfielder slashed .248/.295/.418 with 19 home runs over 129 games for the Diamondbacks before getting injured.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Does not exercise opt out
12h agoO'Neill will remain with the Orioles after declining to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
O'Neill is owed $33 million over the next two years, and he's wisely decided to opt into that deal after slashing just .199/.292/.392 over 54 games in his first year in Baltimore. The 30-year-old should bounce back to some degree in 2026, but he will remain an injury risk.

Cody Bellinger: Declines player option for 2026
12h agoBellinger became a free agent Monday after declining his $25 million player option for 2026, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Bellinger will test out free agency after slashing .272/.334/.480 with 29 home runs, 98 RBI and 13 stolen bases over 152 regular-season games for the Yankees in 2025. The Yankees will likely make an effort to re-sign the 30-year-old, but Bellinger should have a healthy market as a relatively young free agent coming off a nice season who can play multiple positions.

Randal Grichuk: Declines mutual option

He'll receive a $3 million buyout and return to free agency. Grichuk slashed just .206/.267/.299 across 43 games for Kansas City after being acquired at the trade deadline. The 34-year-old was not as productive against left-handed pitching in 2025 (.703 OPS) as he was in 2024 (.913 OPS), though he did homer seven times in 183 plate appearances versus southpaws this season. The right-handed-hitting Grichuk could land a gig this offseason as a short-side platoon bat.

The option came with a $10 million buyout, leaving Woodruff with an easy decision to decline it. Woodruff posted a 3.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 83:14 K:BB over 64.2 innings covering 12 regular-season starts in 2025 before going down with a right lat strain in late September. He's expected to be ready for spring training. The right-hander will turn 33 in February and represents a high-risk, high-reward option on the free-agent market.

Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Option for 2026 picked up
10h agoThe Brewers exercised Peralta's $8 million option for 2026 on Monday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The Brewers picking up Peralta's option was a given. The big question is whether they will trade their ace this winter, as he's slated to reach free agency next offseason and highly unlikely to ink a long-term deal with Milwaukee. Peralta won a career-high 17 games while posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 204:66 K:BB over 176.2 innings covering 33 regular-season starts for the Brewers in 2025.

Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Declines mutual option
11h agoGiolito (elbow) declined the player side of his $19 mutual option for 2026 on Monday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
He'll be paid a $1.5 million buyout instead. It's possible the Red Sox will extend Giolito a one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer, and if that happens, there's a non-zero chance the right-hander accepts it. After missing the 2024 season following internal brace surgery, Giolito had a nice bounce-back 2025 campaign, posting a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 frames. However, his season ended in late September with elbow soreness, and while he was cleared of structural damage, the injury could affect his earnings potential this offseason.

Marsh missed the entire 2025 season with shoulder issues and it was concluded last month that surgery was required. He is expected to need around a year to recover, so the right-hander is unlikely to be ready to pitch in a big-league game again until 2027. Baltimore had a $3 million club option on Enns for 2026, but instead of picking that up it has hammered out a new deal with the left-hander. Enns was acquired by the Orioles via trade in late July and pitched well for them down the stretch, holding a 3.14 ERA and 34:11 K:BB over 28.2 frames. The southpaw will likely open 2026 in the bullpen, though he also offers the flexibility to be used as a starting pitcher.

Rockies' Kris Bryant: Still bothered by back
17h agoBryant said Saturday in an interview with Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post that he continues to experience daily pain and discomfort while recovering from lumbar degenerative disc disease, but the 33-year-old said that he's not yet considering retirement. "[The back is] not in the best shape, and that's pretty disheartening for me," Bryant said. "It's exhausting for me waking up and hoping to feel [better]. I can't tell you the last time I woke up feeling I'm in a good spot."
Bryant spent nearly all of the 2025 campaign on the shelf after he underwent an ablation operation in May to address his back condition, but the procedure hasn't yielded the desired effect. Though Bryant noted that he hasn't felt any pain while swinging a bat, straight-line running as well as quick, unorthodox movements such as diving for a grounder or retreating to first base on a pickoff attempt are still presenting discomfort. Bryant said that he's continuing to treat his injury during the offseason by doing Pilates three times a week with the hope of strengthening his core and providing some relief for his lower back, but if he's still dealing with substantial pain by the time spring training arrives, it's possible that Bryant and the Rockies more seriously discuss a financial arrangement that would allow him to medically retire. Since signing a seven-year, $182 million contract in March of 2022, Bryant has played in 170 games over his four seasons with the Rockies and has struggled to a .244/.324/.370 slash line (82 wRC+) with 17 home runs and 61 RBI across 712 plate appearances.

Ohtani struggled throughout his time on the mound, but he managed to get through two scoreless innings despite allowing four baserunners over that span. He wasn't able to escape in the third, however, as Bo Bichette tagged him for a three-run homer in that frame, leading to his exit. Ohtani did manage to reach base three times as a hitter, and over the seven-game series he batted .333 with three home runs, three doubles, five RBI, six runs and nine walks.
