The Nationals released Mervis on Tuesday.
Mervis was unable to win a spot on the Nationals' Opening Day roster coming out of spring training and will now leave the organization entirely after going 0-for-4 with a walk in his lone game with Triple-A Rochester this season. The 27-year-old Mervis established himself as a breakout prospect for the Cubs during the 2022 minor-league campaign, but he's struggled to make contact over parts of three seasons in the majors and has now had four organizations pull the plug on him.
