Top Red Wings News

  • Red Wings' Eddie Genborg: Goal, assist in Saturday's win

Genborg scored a goal and added an assist in Timra IK's 2-1 win over Malmo in the SHL on Saturday.

Genborg is showing pretty well as an 18-year-old playing against men in Sweden's top league. He has seven points over 11 contests in 2025-26, a massive step up from last year when he was limited to two goals in 28 SHL outings. The winger should be in contention for a World Junior roster spot with Sweden this December.

  • Red Wings' Amadeus Lombardi: Trio of assists in AHL win

Lombardi recorded three assists in AHL Grand Rapids' 3-2 win over Texas on Saturday.

Lombardi was held off the scoresheet in the AHL opener, but he made up for it with a big second game. The 22-year-old forward was impressive with 40 points over 44 regular-season outings in 2024-25, and he'll look to keep growing his offense this year. The Red Wings don't have an obvious spot for him in the NHL, but he could force the issue if he plays well for the Griffins.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Starting in Toronto

Talbot will defend the road net against Toronto on Monday, according to Ansar Khan of MLive.com.

Talbot will get his second straight start after stopping 20 shots in a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday. He also made a relief appearance against Montreal in Detroit's season opener, making four saves on the four shots he faced in 22:37 of action after John Gibson got the hook.

  • Red Wings' Albert Johansson: Snags helper in win

Johansson logged an assist, two shots on goal and a plus-4 rating in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

It took Johansson 11 games to earn his first point in 2024-25, so he's already off to a better start this year. He looks poised to hold a bottom-four spot in the lineup throughout the campaign, though the Red Wings have a couple of workhorses on the blue line in Moritz Seider and Ben Chiarot. Johansson has added three shots on net, three hits and three blocked shots over two appearances. His fantasy appeal is limited if he can't crack the top four.

  • Red Wings' Emmitt Finnie: Picks up first helper

Finnie registered an assist, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

It took just over a game and a half for Finnie to find the scoresheet in the NHL. The 20-year-old has come out of nowhere to claim a top-line gig with the Red Wings to begin 2025-26, just over two years after he was a seventh-round pick in 2023. Finnie has still been a bit sheltered overall, averaging 13:04 of ice time per game, and until that number goes up by a few minutes, his offense figures to be limited.

  • Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson: Sinks empty-netter Saturday

Edvinsson scored an empty-net goal on two shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

Edvinsson picked up his first point of the campaign to give the Red Wings some breathing room late in the third period. He's added four shots on net, four hits, four blocked shots and four PIM over two contests. Edvinsson is playing on the second pairing at even strength but isn't getting much power-play time, which could limit his offense in the event Axel Sandin-Pellikka stays on the NHL roster all year. Nonetheless, Edvinsson offers some upside as an all-around defender for fantasy purposes.

  • Red Wings' Andrew Copp: Fills empty cage

Copp scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

The empty-netter came late in the third period to seal the Red Wings' win. Copp has two hits, two blocked shots and three shots on net over two contests while filling a third-line role to begin 2025-26. He's been playing on the wing, though he's more or less interchangeable with J.T. Compher. Copp was limited to 23 points in 56 appearances last year, but it's tough to expect much of a bounce-back given his fairly limited role.

  • Red Wings' Marco Kasper: Notches first goal of season

Kasper scored a goal Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs.

It was Kasper's first of the year. He put up 19 goals and 18 assists in 77 games last season. The 21-year-old is centering Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat at even strength, and those two have offensive firepower to burn. Kasper is a solid deep league option with plenty of upside.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Earns win after wobbly start

Talbot made 20 saves in Saturday's 6-3 win over Toronto.

The Red Wings were down 2-0 by the 12:29 mark of the first, but Talbot battened the hatches and gave his team a shot at a comeback. The score was actually closer than it seemed -- the Wings scored two empty-net goals. Talbot remains the No. 2 netminder behind John Gibson, but he will still deliver fantasy value. Gibson needs to prove he can resurrect his career as a starter while staying healthy, and Talbot is a solid insurance policy.

  • Red Wings' Lucas Raymond: Gets career goal 100 in win

Raymond scored twice, including his 100th NHL goal, in a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Raymond's first goal came in the second half of the second period when he put Dylan Larkin's cross-slot pass into an open net. Then Raymond scored on the power play early in the third; that's the snipe that gave him 100 on his career. The 23-year-old has 256 points in 322 career regular-season games.

  • Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Trio of helpers in win

DeBrincat had three assists Saturday in a 6-3 win over Toronto.

The points were his first of the season (two games). DeBrincat has fired eight shots in those games, so the goals will come for the two-time 41-goal scorer. He and Patrick Kane, who also picked up three points, continue to show strong chemistry. The two accounted for one goal and five assists Saturday.

  • Red Wings' Patrick Kane: Big three-point effort in win

Kane had a goal and two assists Saturday in a 6-3 victory over the Maple Leafs.

His goal came late in the second when he one-timed a pass from Alex DeBrincat from the right circle. Kane has four points (one goal, three assists) in his first two games this season; two of those helpers have come on the power play, including one Saturday. Kane will turn 37 in November, but he continues to be an Energizer Bunny on offense. He put up 59 points, including 21 goals, and fired 175 shots last season, and another year like that is well within reach.

  • Red Wings' Erik Gustafsson: Sent to AHL

Gustafsson was loaned to AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday.

Gustafsson was a healthy scratch for Thursday's season opener against Montreal after clearing waivers. He had two goals and 16 assists, including nine points on the power play, in 60 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. The Red Wings activated veteran winger James van Riemsdyk (not injury related) in a corresponding move.

  • Red Wings' James van Riemsdyk: Ready to rock

Van Riemsdyk (not injury related) was activated from the non-roster status Saturday.

Van Riemsdyk missed most of training camp due to a personal matter and sat out Thursday's opener against Montreal while getting back up to game speed. He will probably play on the fourth line alongside Michael Rasmussen and Mason Appleton. The Red Wings reassigned defenseman Erik Gustafsson to AHL Grand Rapids in a corresponding move.

  • Red Wings' Dylan James: One of each in UND's opener

James scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in the University of North Dakota's 6-2 win over St. Thomas University on Friday.

James started his senior year with a multi-point effort. Offense has been hard to come by for the 21-year-old -- over his first three collegiate seasons, he's totaled 57 points in 114 games, which isn't going to cut it once he goes pro. He was selected in the second round by the Red Wings in 2022, and it's unclear if he's in the organization's long-term plans at this time. James' signing rights expire Aug. 15, 2026.

  • Red Wings' Trey Augustine: Earns first shutout of season

Augustine posted a 13-save shutout in Michigan State's 2-0 win over the University of New Hampshire on Friday.

Augustine was hardly tested in the narrow win. He's opened the year 1-1-0 with an .897 save percentage in two games. Augustine won 19 of his 30 games and had a .924 save percentage as a sophomore last year, and he should continue to be one of the better collegiate goalies in the nation.

  • Red Wings' Carter Bear: One of each in season debut

Bear scored a goal on eight shots and added an assist in WHL Everett's 4-1 win over Victoria on Friday.

This was Bear's season debut for the Silvertips, giving them another key piece in what could be a special year. Everett has started 6-0-1 and also boasts Landon DuPont, a 16-year-old defenseman who was granted exceptional player status ahead of 2024-25. Bear, a Red Wings prospect, erupted for 82 points, 185 shots on net, 77 PIM and a plus-33 rating over 56 regular-season contests last year. The 18-year-old could be in line for a roster spot with Team Canada at the World Junior Championship this winter.

... See More ... See Less
  • Red Wings' Carter Mazur: Hat trick in AHL opener

Mazur had a hat trick in AHL Grand Rapids' 4-3 win over Texas on Friday.

Mazur posted 15 points in 20 AHL outings last year, which was enough to earn him his NHL debut, though he got injured on his second shift with the Red Wings. That likely sapped him momentum, and the 23-year-old will need to stay healthy and productive for the Griffins early in 2025-26 to earn another call-up. Even if he gets promoted, Mazur is likely to be ticketed for bottom-six minutes, especially if Detroit has other prospects filling more prominent roles.
