AFC South Bust Alert Players: Tennessee Titans

Player Outlook
We still expect Spears to be the No. 2 running back behind Tony Pollard, but the team's acquisition of Nicholas Singleton in the NFL Draft calls that into question. Perhaps more importantly, even if Pollard misses time, we can no longer be sure that Spears would see a big increase in work. Spears has been a below-average rusher in each of the last two years, and last year, his receiving efficiency fell off as well. In 2025, his success rate was below 40% as both a rusher and a receiver. If he maintains his third-down role, he could be a PPR flex in a bye-week situation, but even then, he would be more of a floor play than an upside play. Spears is best viewed as bench depth at running back and should not be drafted before Round 11.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Efficient with five touches

Spears rushed four times for 35 yards and brought in his only target for four yards in the Titans' 19-13 preseason win over the 49ers on Thursday. Spears finished second in rushing yards for the Titans on the night behind Julius Chestnut, and the former showed no signs of the soreness and irritation that caused an early exit from practice on Friday. Spears has a chance to make a case for the top running back job currently held by Tony Pollard, but barring any unforeseen developments or injury, it appears likely the latter will continue relegating Spears to a complementary role to begin the 2026 season.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Exits practice early Friday

Spears is dealing with some soreness and irritation, which caused him to depart practice early Friday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports. There's no indication Spears is dealing with anything serious, but he may be held out of practice until his current soreness subsides. The 25-year-old is expected to serve as Tennessee's No. 2 RB this season, and the could be more of a "1B" to starter Tony Pollard than a pure backup. Spears has 1,048 regular-season rushing yards and 873 receiving yards through three NFL campaigns, so he has the potential to make an impact in fantasy as a dual-threat asset.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Stock trending up

Spears has impressed throughout the Titans' offseason program and strengthened his hold on the No. 2 running back role behind Tony Pollard, Bryce W. Lazenby of SI.com reports. Spears at one point appeared at risk of falling down the depth chart entering 2026, but new head coach Robert Saleh has consistently praised the 2023 third-round pick this spring. Lazenby reports that Spears is working to improve his pass-catching this offseason and could operate more as a "1B" behind Pollard than a traditional backup. He managed just 72 carries for 283 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games in 2025, though an improved Titans offensive line could benefit both Spears and Pollard this season. Tennessee selected Nicholas Singleton in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, so Spears will face additional competition in training camp.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Only 27 yards in season finale

Spears rushed the ball three times for 18 yards in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Jaguars. He added seven receptions (on seven targets) for nine yards. Tony Pollard dominated rushing attempts for Tennessee, tallying 14 compared to Spears' three. Spears did serve as a favorite checkdown option for fill-in QB Brandon Allen, but that resulted in little production. Injuries and a poor offensive environment derailed Spears' third year as a pro, as his 291 rushing yards across 13 regular-season games were the fewest of his career. He'll presumably enter the final year of his rookie contract in a backup role to Pollard in 2026.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Disappears from offense again

Spears rushed the ball six times for two yards in Sunday's 34-26 loss to the Saints. He added one reception on two targets for minus-2 yards. Spears saw a significant uptick in usage in Week 16 and tallied 105 yards from scrimmage. However, he returned to a complementary role in Week 17, earning only seven touches compared to 20 for Tony Pollard. Spears was also shut down as both a rusher and receiver, and he's now been held below five rushing yards in four of his last seven games.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 17 Waiver Priority List

Spears had a great game against Kansas City in Week 16 with 13 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown and five catches for 53 yards on five targets. He scored 21.5 PPR points, but keep in mind that he scored 9.2 PPR points or less in six games in a row prior to facing the Chiefs. That said, the Titans offense has looked better in the past three games against Cleveland, San Francisco, and Kansas City, and Tennessee has a favorable matchup in Week 17 against New Orleans. Spears can be used as a flex in all leagues against the Saints.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Huge day against KC

Spears carried the ball 13 times for 52 yards and a touchdown and caught all five of his targets for 53 yards in Sunday's 26-9 win over Kansas City. Tony Pollard led the way in the Titans backfield with 21 carries and a third straight 100-yard game, but Spears made an impact as well as as he handled a season high in carries and touches while reaching 100 scrimmage yards for the first time in 2025 and scoring his first TD since Week 8. With the Titans' offense finally looking at least competent, Spears and Pollard could remain in something close to a timeshare over the final two weeks of the season, including for a Week 17 tilt against the Saints.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Only five touches

Spears rushed the ball three times for 34 yards in Sunday's 37-24 loss to the 49ers. He added two receptions (on two targets) for two yards. Spears was on the field for only 20 offensive snaps, his lowest mark since his season debut in Week 5. His longest gain went for 20 yards and came during garbage time in the blowout loss. Spears has been a peripheral option in the Tennessee backfield, and the Titans have shown no signs of shifting work away from Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 14 Adds (RB Preview)

Spears scores eight PPR points almost every week. The Titans aren't going to have any success running the ball this week, so they may have to go more pass-heavy, which favors Spears. As good as the Browns defense has been, they have only been league average against running backs in the passing game. And they have given up 22 catches to the position in their last three games.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 14 Waiver Priority List

While Tony Pollard continues to struggle on the ground, Pollard continues to help the Titans in the passing game, and he's worth adding in all leagues for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB, with his value slightly higher in PPR. Spears has scored at least 8.4 PPR points in four of his past five games, and he has 15 catches for 77 yards on 16 carries in his past three outings against Houston, Seattle and Jacksonville.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Works as complement to Pollard

Spears rushed the ball three times or four yards in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Titans. He added four receptions on five targets for 21 yards. Spears continued to work as a complement to Tony Pollard, as he had only three rush attempts to Pollard's 11. Spears has now been held to single-digit rushing yards in each of his last two contests. Positively, he has remained involved as a pass catcher, recording at least three receptions in six straight games.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Loses efficiency as runner

Spears recorded seven rushes for 26 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Chargers. He added three receptions on three targets for 36 yards. Spears was out-touched only 13-12 by Tony Pollard, with Spears being the primary pass catcher. His most notable contribution was a 26-yard catch that set up a game-tying field goal late in the second quarter. That made up for Spears' lack of efficiency on the ground, as he was held to less than 4.0 yards per carry for the first time since his season debut in Week 5. Positively, Spears has at least three catches in four straight games while also seeing an uptick in his usage as a ball carrier.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Sleeper RBs

Spears will continue to play in a secondary role behind Tony Pollard, but Spears can be considered a flex option in deeper leagues. In his past two games, Spears has combined for 16 PPR points, and he has seven catches for 37 yards on eight targets over that span. We'll likely see Spears involved in the passing game if the Titans are chasing points, and the Colts have allowed three running backs to catch at least three passes in their past four games.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 9 Waiver Priority List

Tony Pollard could get traded, which would put Spears in line to be the featured running back for the Titans. But even if Pollard stays in Tennessee, Spears is getting enough work to be considered a flex option in the majority of leagues. He just had his best game of the season in Week 9 at Indianapolis with nine carries for 59 yards and a touchdown and three catches for 23 yards on three targets. And he's now scored at least 7.0 PPR points in three games in a row, and he has at least eight total touches in all three outings. Spears should be added in all leagues for up to 10 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Hits pay dirt Sunday

Spears rushed nine times for 59 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 38-14 loss to Indianapolis. Tony Pollard led Tennessee with 11 carries, but Spears outproduced the veteran starter in every other facet Sunday. The nine carries also represented a new personal best through four healthy appearances this season. The 1-7 Titans may opt to feature the 24-year-old more prominently in the second half of the season if the team offense continues to struggle. As for Week 9, Spears remains stuck in a timeshare with Pollard, limiting both players' value to deeper formats against the Chargers next Sunday.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Records 40 yards from scrimmage

Spears rushed the ball five times for 22 yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Patriots. He added three receptions (on four targets) for 18 yards. The Titans attempted only 12 rushes in the game, with Spears splitting the workload almost exactly evenly with Tony Pollard. More surprising was that Pollard out-produced him as a pass catcher, a role that Spears had seemingly taken over since his return to the field. While he's added an element to the Tennessee offense, the unit is poor enough that Spears won't be able to sustain fantasy value so long as he's in a timeshare with Pollard.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Week 7 Adds (RB Preview)

Spears was in the stash section several times this year, and in Week 6, he gave a glimpse of why. Spears turned nine touches into 50 yards and played more snaps than Tony Pollard. It is quite possible he plays more than Pollard when the Titans are chasing the score, and it is quite possible they will be chasing the score every week.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Cleared to face Vegas

Spears (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. Spears upgraded to full participation in Friday's practice after a pair of limited sessions. After handling just four carries for 14 yards in his Week 5 season debut against the Cardinals, Spears will look to take on a larger role Sunday as the complementary option to Tony Pollard in Tennessee's backfield.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Another limited practice

Spears (ankle) remained limited at practice Thursday. Spears also was limited Wednesday, so the running back likely will need to practice fully Friday in order to approach Sunday's game against the Raiders without an injury designation. In his return from IR in Week 5, he recorded a 25 percent snap share in his team's 22-21 win over the Cardinals en route to carrying four times for 14 yards while working behind fellow RB Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Tyjae Spears: Four carries in 2025 debut

Spears rushed the ball four times for 14 yards in Sunday's 22-21 win over the Cardinals. Spears was activated from injured reserve and able to suit up for the first time in 2025 after recovering from an ankle injury. He unsurprisingly worked as the clear backup to Tony Pollard, managing a pair of five-yard gains on his four carries. Spears could see his role expand as the season progresses.
