  • 49ers' Kurtis Rourke: Shifts to NFI list

Rourke (knee) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday. Rourke played his entire final season at Indiana on a torn ACL but managed to throw for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions through 12 games, vaulting the Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff. He underwent surgery Jan. 8 and was subsequently drafted in the seventh round by the 49ers. Due to his recovery, he didn't participate in rookie camp or training camp, and he'll be required to miss at least four games due to his placement on the NFI list. The 49ers can take their time with his recovery as long as Brock Purdy and Mac Jones (knee) are upright, as Rourke projects for the No. 3 role upon return.

  • 49ers' Kurtis Rourke: Begins camp on NFI

The 49ers placed Rourke (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Rourke played his final collegiate season with a torn ACL in 2024 at Indiana. The 49ers used a seventh-round pick on the quarterback, but he's not expected to practice this summer. San Francisco signed Mac Jones to operate as Brock Purdy's backup this season.

  • 49ers' Kurtis Rourke: Won't play in rookie camp

Rourke (knee) won't participate in the 49ers' rookie camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 2025 seventh-round pick played his final collegiate season on a torn ACL, so it's no surprise that he won't be ready for San Francisco's rookie minicamp. During Rourke's final season at Indiana, he threw for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns and five picks, while also adding two rushing touchdowns. Once the 24-year-old returns from his ACL injury, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the 49ers' quarterback room.

  • 49ers' Kurtis Rourke: Bay Area bound

The 49ers selected Rourke (knee) in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 227th overall. Rourke followed in his brother Nathan's footsteps and started his college career at Ohio, where he was a productive three-year starter. He got himself onto the NFL radar after transferring to Indiana and leading the Hoosiers to an improbable run to the College Football Playoff. Rourke threw for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions with Indiana. What's more, he showed remarkable toughness by playing the whole season on a torn ACL. Injuries were unfortunately a large part of Rourke's college story with multiple ACL injuries. He projects as a high-level backup in the NFL and should be ready for the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery in January.
