  • Bengals' Xavier Johnson: Inks future deal with Cincinnati

The Bengals signed Johnson to a reserve/future contract Monday.

Johnson was waived with an injury settlement by the Texans in late August after breaking his hand during training camp, but he managed to catch on with the Bengals in mid-December as a member of the team's practice squad. The Ohio State product has yet to appear in a regular-season game, but he'll be on the Bengals' 90-man roster following the Super Bowl and will participate in offseason training activities in Cincinnati.

  • Xavier Johnson: Joins Bengals' practice squad

Cincinnati signed Johnson (hand) to the practice squad Wednesday.

Johnson spent the offseason with Houston but was placed on IR due to a broken hand and subsequently cut before the start of the regular season. Now full healthy, Johnson will work to carve out an emergency depth role at wide receiver with the Bengals.

  • Xavier Johnson: Gets removed from Houston's IR

The Texans waived Johnson (hand) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Johnson just reverted to Houston's injured reserve list from waivers Wednesday, but now it looks like he's on the way out of H-Town. Once he recovers from the broken hand he's dealing with, he'll be able to look for another chance with a new team as a free agent.

  • Texans' Xavier Johnson: Reverts to IR

Johnson (hand) reverted to Houston's injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Johnson will stick around with Houston after going unclaimed on waivers. He suffered a broken hand at some point during training camp and will be forced to miss the entirety of the upcoming season unless he's waived with an injury settlement.

  • Xavier Johnson: Waived/injured by Houston

The Texans waived Johnson (hand) with an injury designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Johnson broke his hand at some point during training camp, and he'll be out indefinitely while recovering from the injury, per Wilson. Johnson will revert to the Texans' injured reserve if he goes unclaimed off waivers, which would cause him to miss the entire 2025 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with Houston. Johnson spent all of last season on the Texans' practice squad but was not promoted to the 53-man roster.

  • Texans' Xavier Johnson: Staying in Houston

The Texans signed Johnson to a reserve/future contract Wednesday.

Johnson signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent in May. He was unsuccessful in making Buffalo's 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but managed to catch on with Houston on the practice squad. Johnson wasn't elevated to the Texans' active roster during the regular season or postseason, but under a futures contract he'll be on the 90-man roster when the new league year starts March 12. That gives him the opportunity to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp in the hopes of earning a spot on the Texans' roster for the 2025 campaign.

  • Xavier Johnson: Waived by Buffalo

Johnson was waived by the Bills on Tuesday, Alec White of the team's official website reports.

Johnson signed with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent in May, compiling 27 receiving yards on three catches during the preseason. If the wide receiver clears waivers, there's a good chance he ends up with the Bills' practice squad ahead of Week 1.

  • Bills' Xavier Johnson: Gets opportunity in Buffalo

Johnson has signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent.

Johnson spent six seasons at Ohio State due to a redshirt year and the 2020 COVID-19 additional season that was granted to all athletes. He spent his final season behind several talented receivers, which led to him recording just 178 yards receiving on 13 receptions. While he figures to have an uphill battle -- he is one of 13 wide receivers currently on Buffalo's roster -- the rookie will compete for either a depth receiving role with the team or a spot on the practice squad.
