Breaking News: All-Pro LB Micah Parsons Traded To Green Bay, Signs Record Extension

Fantasy News

  • Packers' Micah Parsons: Deal to Green Bay complete

The Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers for two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The ongoing saga this summer between Parsons and the Cowboys finally has reached its conclusion, with the pass rusher agreeing to a four-year, $188 million extension to take his talents to Green Bay. He's one of only two players in NFL history to rack up 12.0 sacks in each of his first four seasons as a pro, the other being former Packer Reggie White.

  • Packers' Micah Parsons: Traded to GB, gets massive deal

Parsons is being traded to Green Bay from Dallas and has agreed to terms with the Packers on a four-year, $188 million dollar contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Parsons gets a massive new extension and becomes the immediate leader of Green Bay's pass rush, in a deal done just over one week in advance of the Packers' regular-season opener against Detroit. The three-time All-Pro will provide an immediate boost to his new team, and the full details regarding Dallas' trade compensation will follow shortly.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Day-to-day due to back injury

Parsons (back) is day-to-day, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Parsons wasn't on the field Thursday because he was getting some work done on his back. The star pass rusher has yet to take part in practice or drills in camp while embroiled in a contract dispute, and his status for Week 1 will grow increasingly uncertain the longer it takes the Cowboys to reach an agreement with him on an extension.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Misses practice

Parsons (back) wasn't on the practice field Thursday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports. It was his first absence of training camp, with Parsons having been a fixture on the sidelines, although not participating in actual drills or practices, since announcing a trade request on social media last Friday. He's scheduled to play out 2025 under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract for $24 million, while fellow pass rushers Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt have secured extensions this offseason in the range of $40 million per season. Parsons remains with the team, not wanting to face fines, and it is possible Thursday's absence wasn't solely about the back injury. He did miss practices with the same back injury during the offseason program, however, and Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones has mentioned the edge rusher's ability to stay healthy being a factor in negotiations. Multiple reports have suggested that Jones doesn't want to negotiate with Parsons' agent because he believes the two reached a verbal agreement back in March. It's a situation that could get ugly, if it hasn't already, with Jones acknowledging recently that he doesn't know if Parsons will be on the field Week 1 against Philadelphia.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Availability uncertain

Parsons (back/contract) is uncertain to play Week 1 against the Eagles, Clarence Hill Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports. Parsons has been outspoken about his displeasure with Dallas, even announcing that he has requested a trade Friday. Owner Jerry Jones addressed the media Tuesday, stating that nobody in the front office has contacted Parsons' agent, and that he hasn't spoken to Parsons since his trade request. With less than a month until the Cowboys face the Eagles in the NFL's regular season opener Thursday, Sept. 4, it doesn't seem like the two sides are particularly close to a resolution.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Wants out of Dallas

Parsons (back) requested a trade from the Cowboys on Friday via his personal X account. In particular, Parsons' statement included the following: "Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here. ... I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys." In an offseason in which fellow edge rushers Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt landed new extensions worth at least $40 million per year, Parsons and the Cowboys don't appear to be engaging in similar talks. Parsons is set to play out the fifth-year option on his rookie contract in 2025, which carries a salary of $24 million.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Will report to training camp

Parsons will report for the start of Cowboys training camp despite not having a long-term contract extension in place, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Parsons and the Cowboys continue to be at a stalemate in terms of a contract extension, and the star pass rusher has expressed some frustration, saying that "ownership's always going to make it drag out, make it more complicated than it has to be, lack of communication," per Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Despite those comments, Parsons appears set to report to Oxnard, Calif., by the time training camp begins there Monday. It's not certain, however, that Parsons will initially take part in practices -- he could report to camp and attend practice without participating if he feels doing so is in his best interests.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Present for voluntary workouts

Parsons is present for the start of the Cowboys' voluntary offseason workout program Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Parsons, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract and seeking a long-term extension, said at the end of the 2024 campaign that he intended to participate in voluntary workouts. The last two years, as Archer notes, Parson normally skipped out on attending the voluntary portion of the Cowboys' offseason. Parsons has tallied at least 12.0 sacks in four consecutive seasons to begin his NFL career and is reportedly seeking a new deal in the range of $200 million, per Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, which would make him the highest paid non-quarterback in league history.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Notches another sack in Week 16

Parsons posted five tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks, and forced a fumble Sunday in a 26-24 win against Tampa Bay. Parsons put together another impressive performance, with his biggest play being a third-quarter sack of Baker Mayfield that also resulted in a fumble. The ball was initially awarded to Dallas, but the call was then reversed, though the sack still pushed the Buccaneers out of field-goal range on a drive that ended in a punt. Parsons has now recorded at least one sack in five of his past seven games and has 8.5 total sacks during that span.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Two more sacks Sunday

Parsons recorded eight tackles (four solo), including 2.0 sacks, in Sunday's win over the Commanders. It's the second time in three games since returning from a high-ankle sprain that Parsons has rung up multiple sacks. The fourth-year player has 5.0 sacks in seven games on the year, and with six more games left on the Cowboys' schedule, he's still got a solid chance at producing his fourth straight campaign with double-digit sacks.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Records two sacks in loss

Parsons recorded 2.0 sacks in Sunday's 34-6 loss to the Eagles. The pass rusher also played on 54 percent of the defensive snaps in his first game back after missing the previous four contests due to a high-ankle sprain. Parsons is up to 16 tackles (13 solo), including 3.0 sacks, on the season. He also has a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Expected to face snap count Sunday

Parsons (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles, but he's expected to be available on a limited snap count, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. According to Pelissero, Parsons probably won't be ready to play his full allotment of snaps for another week or two, but the Cowboys plan to use him on passing downs with the hope that he can apply some pressure on Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Parsons has missed the Cowboys' last four games after being carted off the field in a Week 4 win over the Giants with a left high-ankle sprain.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Expected to return Sunday

Parsons (ankle) is listed as questionable but is expected to play in Sunday's contest versus Philadelphia, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Parsons suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 4 against the Giants and has missed Dallas' subsequent four contests. He was able to log a trio of limited practices this week, setting up his expected return to action Sunday. Parsons' return will likely result in Tyrus Wheat seeing fewer snaps on defense.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Could return in Week 10

Parsons (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Parsons returned to practice in a limited fashion throughout the week, giving him a chance to play Sunday for the first time since sustaining a high-ankle sprain in Dallas' Week 4 win over the Giants. The Penn State product's return would be significant for a Cowboys defense that is currently tied for the fewest sacks in the NFL (18.0) through nine weeks. However, if Parsons can't play, expect Tyrus Wheat to serve as one of the Cowboys' top defensive ends.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Opens week as limited participant

Parsons (ankle) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports. Todd Archer of ESPN.com reported Wednesday that Parsons is expected to practice in a limited capacity this week while recovering from a high-ankle sprain he sustained in Week 4 against the Giants. If he is listed as a limited practice participant over the next two days, Parsons will likely be tagged as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Returning to practice

Parsons (ankle) will go through a limited practice Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Parsons' return to practice is a significant step forward in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain suffered in Week 4. The Penn State product hasn't been on the field since suffering the injury, so even with limited reps expected Wednesday, it's a good start for the week in his goal of suiting up Sunday against the Eagles.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Could return in Week 10

Parsons (ankle) "should be back" for Sunday's game against the Eagles, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN. The 2021 first-round pick from Penn State has missed the Cowboys' last four contests after sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the team's Week 4 win over the Giants. Parsons has yet to practice since suffering the injury, so the Cowboys will likely want to see him take some reps during Week 10 prep before formally clearing him to return to the lineup.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Remains out Week 9

Parsons (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Falcons. Parsons has yet to return to practice since sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the Cowboys' Week 4 win over the Giants, and he's now in line to miss his fourth consecutive game Sunday. The 2021 first-round pick has recorded 14 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and defended one pass through four appearances this season. Expect Tyrus Wheat and Carl Lawson to see increased work with the Cowboys' first-team defense while Parsons remains sidelined in Week 9.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: Looking unlikely for Week 9

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Parsons (ankle) is "not quite there yet" when asked about the star pass rusher's chances of suiting up Sunday against the Falcons, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. McCarthy said "I really don't even entertain that thought" when asked about Parsons' odds of retaking the field, and said he won't consider that line of thinking until such time as "[Parsons can] clear the return-to-play" protocols with Dallas' athletic training staff. Parsons has already missed the Cowboys' last three games and he couldn't practice Wednesday. Another 'DNP' listing looks likely Thursday, and it seems as though Dallas is already looking ahead to Week 10 against the Eagles as a more tentative return date for Parsons.

  • Cowboys' Micah Parsons: DNP to open week

Parsons (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice session. Parsons suffered a high-ankle sprain during the Cowboys' Week 4 win over the Giants, which caused him to miss the following two contests. Dallas is coming off a Week 7 bye, but even with the additional rest, it appears Parsons still has some progress to make before returning to regular-season action. The 2021 first-round pick would have to return to practice in at least a limited capacity Thursday or Friday in order to have a shot at playing against the 49ers on Sunday.
