The Jets waived Martinez on Sunday.
Martinez was competing for a spot as New York's No. 3 quarterback behind Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor but didn't make it through the team's roster cutdown. He could be a candidate to land on the Jets' practice squad, which is where he spent the entirety of the 2024 campaign.

Jets' Adrian Martinez: Second QB in after Fields
Rotowire
Martinez completed 12 of 21 passes for 114 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 31-12 preseason loss to the Giants.
It was a forgettable night for much of the Jets roster, but Martinez was notably the second quarterback into the game for the team after starter Justin Fields. Rookie Brady Cook came in after Martinez's third-quarter interception and proceeded to complete six of 11 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. The competition between Martinez and Cook has taken on greater importance following news that Tyrod Taylor (knee) will miss the remainder of the preseason after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. If Taylor isn't ready by Week 1, Martinez or Cook would begin the season as Fields' backup.

Jets' Adrian Martinez: Strong second half Saturday
Rotowire
Martinez completed 11 of 16 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown while rushing twice for 13 yards in Saturday's 30-10 preseason win over the Packers.
Martinez played the entire second half and put forth a strong performance, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to Stone Smartt in the third quarter. Rookie Brady Cook notably came into the game earlier than Martinez, but Martinez had the stronger statistical showing. The battle for the third spot on the Jets' quarterback depth chart between Martinez and Cook will continue in the second preseason game Aug. 16 against the Giants.

Adrian Martinez: Jettisoned by Jets
Rotowire
Martinez was waived by the Jets on Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.
Martinez was signed by New York in July and played in all three of the team's preseason contests, completing 25 of 47 passes for 270 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while carrying six times for 51 yards. He never had much of a chance to play a major role to open the campaign with Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor serving as New York's top two options at quarterback, but Martinez could land a spot on the team's practice squad if he clears waivers.
