  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Officially moved to IR

Gibson (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday. This move was expected after Gibson was diagnosed with a torn ACL following New England's Week 5 win over the Bills. He'll finish the campaign with 25 carries for 106 yards and one touchdown, as well as two catches for six yards on three targets. Terrell Jennings likely will be elevated from the practice squad to provide depth behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson against the Saints on Sunday, while Jashaun Corbin is another backfield option on the practice squad.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Diagnosed with torn ACL

Gibson suffered a torn ACL in Sunday night's win over the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It didn't look good after Gibson was in tears as he was helped off the field in the first half. He'll now miss the remainder of the 2025 season and finished his campaign with 25 carries for 106 yards and one touchdown. Gibson also caught two passes for six yards on three targets. With Gibson on the shelf, the Patriots figure to ride the tandem of Rhamondre Stevenson and dynamic rookie TreVeyon Henderson the rest of the way. Terrell Jennings currently is on the practice squad and will be an option to join the 53-man roster.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Getting knee checked out

Coach Mike Vrabel noted Monday that Gibson -- who exited Sunday night's 23-20 win over the Bills -- is slated to "go through some tests this morning," Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Prior to injuring his knee on a kickoff return in the second quarter, Gibson carried six times for 21 yards and caught his only target for five yards, while fumbling once. If Gibson is forced to miss time, Terrell Jennings would be a candidate to move up from the practice squad to provide depth behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Done for night with knee injury

Gibson exited Sunday night's game against the Bills with a knee injury and will not return. Gibson was injured on a second-quarter kickoff return when he took a low hit to his knees. He was helped off the field and taken to the locker room before almost immediately being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Prior to leaving, Gibson rushed six times for 21 yards and caught his lone target for five yards. With Gibson done for the night, Rhamondre Stevenson and rookie TreVeyon Henderson will handle backfield duties for New England.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Gets into end zone Sunday

Gibson rushed six times for 27 yards and a touchdown and returned one kickoff for 28 yards in the Patriots' 42-13 win over the Panthers on Sunday. The veteran back retained his role in the Patriots' running back committee despite a Week 3 fumble, logging three fewer carries than Rhamondre Stevenson and one less tote than TreVeyon Henderson. Gibson also scored his first touchdown since Week 13 of last season on a one-yard run with just under two minutes remaining in the first half. He has logged between five and seven rush attempts in each of the last three games, and although he surprisingly has just two targets so far in 2025, Gibson seems to have a relatively secure complementary role in the backfield ahead of a Week 5 road showdown with the Bills next Sunday night.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Records seven carries in Week 3

Gibson, who was on the field for 19 of 74 snaps on offense in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Steelers per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, carried the ball seven times for 28 yards and lost a fumble. Meanwhile, Rhamondre Stevenson started at RB on Sunday and logged 27 snaps en route to carrying the ball four times for 18 yards (with two lost fumbles) and catching all three of his targets for 38 yards, while rookie TreVeyon Henderson recorded 34 snaps, gained 28 yards on 11 carries without a fumble and caught all three of his targets for 19 yards. Looking ahead to the Patriots' Week 4 contest against the Panthers, Gibson's complementary role in the team's backfield might be on shaky ground if his ball security issues linger, but he should continue contributing as a kick returner.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Notches 90-yard TD on kick return

Gibson logged 10 of 60 snaps on offense in Sunday's 33-27 win over the Dolphins, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, carrying the ball five times for 27 yards and catching his only target for one yard. Once again the veteran RB was out-snapped by both Rhamondre Stevenson (39) and TreVeyon Henderson (19), but Gibson made a huge impact in Week 2 with a 90-yard kickoff return TD in the fourth quarter that put New England in the lead. Though he's clearly a complementary backfield option, Gibson still carries some fantasy appeal in formats that value his contributions as a return man.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Minor role in opener

Gibson was on the field for five of a possible 71 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Raiders, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Gibson was out-snapped by both Rhamondre Stevenson (46) and TreVeyon Henderson (25) in the Patriots' season opener, and that's a trend that figures to continue in the coming weeks. In his limited playing time Sunday, Gibson carried once for three yards and didn't secure his only target.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Seven touches in preseason opener

Gibson rushed six times for 26 yards and caught his only target for 11 yards in Friday's 48-18 preseason win over the Commanders. He also had a 62-yard kickoff return. Gibson was the third running back into the game for New England behind TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson. It will likely take an injury to one of those two alternatives for Gibson to see significant action on offense in the regular season, but he seems to have a firm grasp on the third spot on the depth chart heading into the Patriots' second preseason game against the Vikings on Aug. 16.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Back in there Monday

Gibson (undisclosed) took part in practice Monday, Brian Hines of SBNation reports. Gibson had been sidelined since Thursday but is healthy to begin the week of preparation ahead of Friday's preseason game against the Commanders. He's expected to slot into the third spot on the running back depth chart behind rookie second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, and Gibson also could carve out a role as a return man on special teams.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Won't scrimmage Friday

Gibson (undisclosed), who didn't work in Thursday's walk-through practice, per Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site, won't participate in Friday night's scrimmage, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports. Prior to Thursday's absence, Lazar notes that Gibson had been paired with rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson on kickoff returns and remains involved on offense. However, with Rhamondre Stevenson set to handle his share of early-down work and Henderson set to make his mark in passing situations, Gibson's path to volume this season is cloudy in what figures to be a complementary role.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Added competition for carries

As the coming season approaches, Gibson and fellow returnee Rhamondre Stevenson will have added competition for backfield touches, with rookie second-rounder TreVeyon Henderson now in the mix, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. In his first season with the Patriots, Gibson worked behind Stevenson, carrying 120 times for 538 yards and a TD, while adding 23 catches for 206 yards in 17 regular-season contests. Looking ahead, Stevenson -- who logged 207 carries in 15 regular-season games in 2024 -- is back to reclaim his share of the team's early-down work, with the presence of the explosive Henderson likely to cut into Gibson's volume. In that context, the 27-year-old is largely off the re-draft radar, but that's something that could change if either Stevenson or Henderson were to miss time at some point.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

We don't know if the Patriots will use Gibson or Rhamondre Stevenson as the primary running back in Week 18 against Buffalo, but Gibson is worth adding and using as a flex option if Week 17 carries over to this week. Gibson had 12 carries for 63 yards and one target against the Chargers, while Stevenson had two carries for 1 yard and one target. He was punished for fumbling at Buffalo in Week 16, and the Patriots could continue to lean on Gibson. The Bills have allowed a running back to score at least 12.3 PPR points in three of their past four games, including Stevenson in Week 16 when he had 12 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 13 yards on one target, along with the fumble. Gibson had 10 carries for 28 yards and two catches for 8 yards on two targets in that game.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Leads team backfield Saturday

Gibson ran for 63 yards on 12 carries during Saturday's 40-7 loss to the Chargers. The Patriots previously indicated that Gibson would start over Rhamondre Stevenson in this game, but evidently the Patriots meant that Gibson would merely get the most usage of the two, as Stevenson was for some reason still the ceremonial starter Saturday. It's not clear what New England meant to convey with that, but Stevenson finished with only two carries for one yard while Gibson otherwise took over the backfield. Stevenson was previously reported as benched due to his prolific fumbling, and it remains to be seen if the Patriots mean to continue making a point on that front. Neither Patriots running back is likely set up all that great against the Bills in Week 18 unless Buffalo plays only second and third stringers in what could be a meaningless game, but it seems like Gibson has the recent momentum, mixed signals from the Patriots coaches aside.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: In line to start Saturday

Gibson will start at running back over Rhamondre Stevenson in Saturday's game against the Chargers, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. On the heels of his recent fumbling issues, Stevenson is slated to give way to Gibson on Saturday, at least in terms of the starting assignment. That said, we'd still expect Stevenson to see his share of work versus the Chargers, but his ball security issues of late should lead to Gibson seeing a higher percentage of New England's backfield snaps than usual in Week 17.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 17 Waiver Priority List

Gibson could start in Week 17 against the Chargers after Rhamondre Stevenson again had trouble with ball security in Week 16 at Buffalo. Stevenson lost his third fumble of the season, and he also dropped a backward pass from Drake Maye that was recovered in the end zone by the Bills. Gibson would only be a flex option at best if we knew Stevenson wasn't going to play, but it's doubtful Gibson will get the majority of touches. He has three games this season with at least 10 total touches, and he scored 11.3 PPR points, 7.3 PPR points, and 5.6 PPR points in those outings.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Carries 10 times Sunday

Gibson carried 10 times for 28 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Bills. Gibson also recorded a fumble that was recovered by New England in the contest, while logging 43 of a possible 73 snaps on offense, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. Meanwhile, starting RB Rhamondre Stevenson was on the field for 32 snaps en route to carrying 12 times for 60 yards and a TD and catching his only target for 13 yards, while fumbling once (recovered by Buffalo) and also being involved in a turnover (assigned to QB Drake Maye) that the Bills turned into a score. As Saturday's game against the Chargers approaches, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald relays that head coach Jerod Mayo indicated that it's a possibility that the team could start Gibson over Stevenson in Week 17. The last time that happened (stemming from Stevenson's ball-security issues early on this season), the two backs each logged 28 snaps in the Patriots' Week 5 loss to the Dolphins, with Stevenson recording 12 carries for 89 yards and a TD and catching four passes for three yards, while Gibson rushed six times for 52 yards and added one catch for four yards. With that in mind, it's plausible that Gibson could handle enough touches versus Los Angeles to merit deep-league lineup consideration, but Stevenson figures to remain part of the game plan, even if he doesn't take the first snap out of the team's backfield.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

Gibson is worth using as a flex option in deeper leagues heading into Week 16 at Buffalo. He's only had seven touches in each of his past three games, but he scored at least 8.4 PPR points in two in a row against the Colts and Cardinals. Rhamondre Stevenson still gets the majority of touches for the Patriots, but Gibson could be a desperation flex play against the Bills, who are No. 2 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Gains 64 yards on nine touches

Gibson had seven carries for 33 yards and two receptions (on as many targets) for 31 yards in Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Cardinals. Gibson followed up his first touchdown of the season with a well-rounded effort behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson (13-69-0). The 26-year-old Gibson is averaging 4.7 yards with the Patriots this season, a mark he hadn't sniffed since his impressive rookie campaign with Washington in 2020. Gibson can provide niche value for those in deep PPR formats for Week 16 against Buffalo.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Scores first TD of season

Gibson carried the ball seven times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Colts. The fifth-year RB posted his best rushing yards total since Week 2, and Gibson capped his big performance with an 11-yard TD run in the fourth quarter that gave the Patriots a 24-17 lead. The trip to the end zone was the first of the season for the former Washington back -- his last touchdown came in Week 16 of 2023. He hasn't seen double-double digits touches while Rhamondre Stevenson has been healthy since Week 2, but Gibson's ability to turn small holes into big gains could lead to a bigger role in the offense on the other side of New England's Week 14 bye.
