The Rams selected Simpson in the first round of the NFL Draft from Alabama, and he will compete for a backup role behind Matthew Stafford this year. Simpson is not worth rostering in any redraft leagues. In rookie-only drafts for Dynasty leagues, Simpson is worth a second-round pick in one-quarterback formats and a potential first-round selection in multiple-QB leagues. Simpson isn't expected to play much in 2026 as long as Stafford is healthy, and Stafford could stay with the Rams through 2027. For 2026, Simpson will compete with Stetson Bennett for the No. 2 job in Los Angeles, and we don't expect Simpson to play much in his rookie campaign.

Rams' Ty Simpson: Tosses two touchdowns Saturday
Rotowire
Simpson completed 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns and turned his lone carry into minus-1 yard during the Rams' 20-12 preseason win over the Chiefs.
Stetson Bennett was named the Rams' starter for Saturday's exhibition contest, leading the team's first two offensive drives before Simpson took over under center. Simpson led a seven-play drive in the second quarter that led to a field goal and demonstrated his potential in the fourth quarter, when he tossed two touchdown passes to Dean Connors from two and nine yards. Bennett is listed as the Rams' backup QB behind Matthew Stafford on the Rams' unofficial depth chart, but Simpson's play Saturday indicates that the competition for the QB2 job is far from over. The Rams will head back to Los Angeles to host the Saints on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Rams' Ty Simpson: Will play in preseason opener
Rotowire
Head coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Simpson will "definitely" play in the Rams' preseason opener against the Chiefs on Saturday, Aug. 15, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Matthew Stafford may get some work in the first series of work, and there's uncertainty over whether Stetson Bennett will play. As such, Simpson figures to see the bulk of the reps on offense for the Rams' first preseason game, with undrafted rookie Matthew Caldwell also in the mix for some playing time. Simpson was a first-round pick of the Rams in the 2026 NFL Draft, but Bennett has taken the bulk of second-team reps in training camp, so the rookie out of Alabama could operate as the Rams' QB3 for the upcoming season, per Nate Atkins of The Athletic.

Rams' Ty Simpson: Agrees to rookie contract
Rotowire
Simpson agreed to terms on a four-year, $25.4 million rookie contract with the Rams on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Simpson's contract comes with a $14.9 million signing bonus and a fifth-year option. He was selected by the Rams with the 13th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft as the apparent franchise successor to reigning MVP Matthew Stafford. Simpson isn't guaranteed the backup job and will compete against Stetson Bennett for that job in training camp.

Rams' Ty Simpson: Selected by Rams
Rotowire
The Rams selected Simpson in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 13th overall.
In what might go down as the most shocking pick of the first round, the Rams picked Simpson as their quarterback of the future at the 13th pick, something around 20 slots earlier than most projected Simpson to go off the board. Simpson (6-foot-1, 211 pounds) only started one year at Alabama and posted troubling efficiency numbers (64.5 percent completed, 7.5 YPA), but to be fair the surrounding cast at Alabama was probably the worst it has been in some number of years. The Rams know Matthew Stafford and his creaky back can only take so many more hits, and with the Simpson selection the team resolved to get ahead of whenever Stafford has to hang up the cleats.
