Packers' Matthew Golden: Gets snaps Thursday
Golden failed to see a target in Thursday's 28-9 preseason loss to the Steelers.
The Packers began the game with most of their offensive starters on the field, including QB Jordan Love, but they all made quick exits. Golden, the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is coming off a disappointing rookie campaign in which he failed to find the end zone in 14 regular-season contests. He'll battle Christian Watson and Jayden Reed for looks from Love, but as in years past in coach Matt LaFleur's offense, who the actual top option is could change from week to week.

Packers' Matthew Golden: Returns to practice Tuesday
Golden (toe) returned to practice Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
With Golden and Jayden Reed (ankle) both returning to practice after brief absences, the Packers are mostly healthy at wide receiver. QB Jordan Love is expected to start Thursday's preseason game against the Steelers, but it isn't clear if Golden and Reed will be available after dealing with minor injuries earlier in the week.

Packers' Matthew Golden: Working through toe issue
Golden did not practice Sunday due to a toe injury, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
The 2025 first-rounder can be considered day-to-day due to his toe issue, though it wouldn't be surprising if he were held out of Thursday's preseason opener against Pittsburgh. Golden is coming off an underwhelming rookie season but has generated some positive buzz in training camp, including Friday night's training camp practice, per Weston Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site. Golden is pencilled in as the Packers' WR3 behind Christian Watson and Jayden Reed (ankle), with Savion Williams, Bo Melton and Skyy Moore all in the mix for rotational reps.

Packers' Matthew Golden: Primed for larger role
Golden has a clear path to move up Green Bay's depth chart in the absence of Romeo Doubs (Patriots) and Dontayvion Wicks (Eagles), ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.
Green Bay's offseason moves leave Golden, Christian Watson and Jayden Reed without serious competition for the top three spots at wide receiver, pending results of the 2026 NFL Draft. Golden went 23rd overall in last year's draft, yet didn't score his first NFL touchdown until the playoffs. He had four straight games with at least three catches and 37 yards in Weeks 3-7, before averaging just 14.0 yards on 2.6 targets over his final eight appearances of the regular season (shoulder and wrist injuries contributed to the slump). Golden then put up 4-84-1 in a playoff loss at Chicago, restoring some hope for a Year 2 breakout. If nothing else, the Packers seem to be planning a major increase in playing time.
