  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Officially ruled out

Gross-Matos (hamstring) will not play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Gross-Matos suffered a hamstring injury in San Francisco's Week 5 win. Despite having a few extra days to recover, he was unable to practice in any capacity during the week.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Set to miss 'some time'

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Gross-Matos will miss some time with a strained hamstring, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Gross-Matos was added to the 49ers' injury carousel Thursday against the Rams, and it looks like it may be the type of issue that could cause him to miss multiple games. If there's any consolation, it's that San Francisco gets a post-Thursday game mini-bye before having to travel across the country to Tampa Bay in Week 6.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Ruled out Thursday

Gross-Matos has a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for the rest of Thursday's game against the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The defensive end broke up one pass before exiting. Gross-Matos played on fewer than 40 percent of the defensive snaps in each of San Francisco's first four games.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Taken off injury report

Gross-Matos does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports. Gross-Matos has practiced sparingly all season but has been able to suit up for each of the 49ers' first two games. It appears he'll follow that same pattern ahead of Week 3, and Gross-Matos will likely play primarily on passing downs in a pass-rushing role.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Returns to practice Thursday

Gross-Matos (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. Gross-Matos missed Wednesday's practice due to a lingering knee issue that limited him to just 16 defensive snaps during the 49ers' Week 1 win over the Seahawks. His ability to return to practice Thursday is a positive sign, and he is trending towards being available against the Saints on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Misses practice Wednesday

Gross-Matos (knee) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Gross-Matos played 16 defensive snaps and failed to record any stats in the team's 17-13 win over the Seahawks in Week 1. The defensive end missed practice last Wednesday and Friday, while logging a limited session Thursday before playing against Seattle. He'll have two more chances to return to practice prior to Sunday's matchup with the Saints.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Cleared for Week 1

Gross-Matos (knee) does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Gross-Matos did not practice Wednesday or Friday, but he got in a limited session Thursday. That's enough for him to suit up, and he should have a rotational role along the San Francisco defensive line.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Limited in return to practice

Gross-Matos (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. It's a step in the right direction for the 2020 second-rounder, who was unable to practice Wednesday due to a lingering knee injury. His practice participation Friday will indicate his chances of playing in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Seahawks. Robert Beal, Bryce Huff and Sam Okuayinonu would be candidates to see an increased snap count at defensive end behind starters Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams if Gross-Matos is not cleared to play.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Sidelined to begin training camp

Gross-Matos (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list Friday. Gross-Matos was sidelined for long stretches of the 2024 season with a knee issue, though he did close the campaign healthy. He'll look to get back on the field early in camp, as he should be in line for a significant role as a pass rusher in 2025.

Gross-Matos (knee) recorded four tackles (all solo), including 3.0 sacks, in Sunday's 38-13 blowout win over the Bears. Gross-Matos set a new personal best with a trio of sacks on Chicago's rookie signal-caller Caleb Williams. The 2020 second-round pick now has 4.0 sacks in four games since being activated from injured reserve in Week 11 against Seattle. Gross-Matos will continue to get extra run for as long as star DE Nick Bosa (oblique) remains sidelined.

Gross-Matos (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Wednesday was Gross-Matos' first full practice since his 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve opened Nov. 6. If he's able to practice without limitations over the next two days, he could be activated off IR ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Missing Week 5

Gross-Matos (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals, David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard reports. Gross-Matos played 40 total snaps (35 defensive and five on special teams) and recorded one tackle in Week 4's win over the Patriots, but it appears he sustained a knee injury in the process. The first-year 49er won't suit up in Week 5 after logging DNPs both Wednesday and Thursday, so expect Robert Beal to see additional work as San Francisco's top rotational edge rusher.

Gross-Matos (knee) practiced in full Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's Week 2 matchup with the Vikings. Gross-Matos (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Gross-Matos missed San Francisco's Week 1 win over the Jets, and he opened this week as a DNP on Wednesday. He was at least able to practice in some capacity Thursday, and his participation in Friday's session will provide a better sense on whether he will play in Week 2 against the Vikings.

With Gross-Matos sidelined, Robert Beal will be called upon to provide additional depth at defensive end Monday behind starters Nick Bosa and Leonard Floyd.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Won't return to exhibition finale

Gross-Matos (knee) has been ruled out from returning to Friday's preseason contest against the Raiders, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Gross-Matos suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and was evaluated in the medical tent. Though he has been deemed out for the remainder of the exhibition game, he looked fine on the sideline, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, so he may have avoided a serious injury. Fellow defensive end Leonard Floyd also hurt his knee in the contest and was similarly moving around OK later in the game despite being ruled out.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Hurts knee in preseason finale

Gross-Matos suffered a knee injury in Friday's exhibition contest against Las Vegas, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The injury occurred in the first quarter when Gross-Matos' ankle got stuck as teammate De'Vondre Campbell tackled a ballcarrier. One play later, fellow defensive end Leonard Floyd suffered a knee injury of his own and also had to leave the game. Both players have been deemed questionable to return, though considering the exhibition nature of the contest, it wouldn't be surprising if neither plays another down Friday.

  • 49ers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Signs with San Francisco

The 49ers signed Gross-Matos to a two-year, $18 million contract Thursday. Gross-Matos was the 38th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Panthers but never developed into a top-end pass rusher off the edge in Carolina. He registered just 13 sacks across four seasons, including a career-best 4.5 in 2023. Perhaps new Niners DC Nick Sorensen can get more out of the 26-year-old.

  • Panthers' Yetur Gross-Matos: Adds another sack

Gross-Matos logged three total tackles (one solo), including one tackle for loss and 1.0 sacks in Sunday's 26-0 loss to the Jaguars. Gross-Matos was able to get after C.J. Beathard in Week 17, bringing his sack total up to 3.5 through 11 appearances this season. In the fourth-year pro's 11 appearances, he's recorded 31 total tackles, which includes six tackles for loss. Gross-Matos will look to get after Baker Mayfield in Week 18 and end the Panthers' season on a two-game sack streak.
