  • Giants' Raheem Layne: Active at OTAs

Layne (knee) has been participating in the Giants' OTAs, John Schmeelk of the team's official site reports. Layne hurt his knee in Week 16 of last season and finished the campaign on IR. However, Schmeelk reports that the 25-year-old safety "made a couple good plays" during practice Friday, so it appears Layne is back to full health. He'll have a chance to compete for a depth role in the defensive backfield during training camp.

  • Giants' Raheem Layne: Lands on IR due to knee injury

The Giants placed Layne (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Layne suffered a knee injury during the Giants' Week 16 loss to the Falcons. The injury prevented him from practicing all week, and it is severe enough for him to be placed on IR, which will end his 2024 campaign. Layne played for the Giants in Week 15 and 16 and accumulated three solo tackles over that span.

  • Giants' Raheem Layne: Ruled out for Week 17

Layne (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Colts, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. The 25-year-old from Indiana played 27 total snaps (22 defensive and five on special teams) and recorded three total tackles in the Giants' Week 16 loss to the Falcons. However, it appears he sustained a knee injury in the process, as he was unable to practice throughout the week and is now in line to miss Sunday's contest. Anthony Johnson is likely to serve as the Giants' top reserve safety in Layne's stead in Week 17.

  • Raheem Layne: Fully cleared for all activities

Layne has made a complete recovery from the torn ACL he suffered last October and is fully cleared for all football activities, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Layne played in five games with the Chargers last season before tearing his ACL in Week 6. He made one start but was relegated almost exclusively to special-teams work in his other four contests. Layne is currently a free agent, and Wilson reports that several teams, including the Giants and Cardinals, are interested in bringing him in for a workout.

  • Chargers' Raheem Layne: Placed on IR

Layne (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the Chargers on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Layne suffered a torn ACL in Monday's contest with the Cowboys and he will now officially be sidelined for the rest of the 2023 campaign while on IR. The cornerback will finish his sophomore season with five tackles while appearing in five games with Los Angeles.

  • Chargers' Raheem Layne: In line for start

Layne is in line for a starting opportunity in Sunday's matchup with the Raiders, Eric Smith of the team's official website reports. With Derwin James (hamstring) doubtful, Alohi Gilman (heel) questionable and JT Woods (undisclosed) out, the Chargers are expected to be pretty thin at safety in Week 4. As a result, Layne is in line for a start, which would be the first of his career. The second-year safety has just two solo tackles on the year.
