Fantasy News

  • Bills' Darrick Forrest: Becoming a Bill

Buffalo will sign Forrest to a one-year contract, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports. Forrest took a back seat in Washington's defensive backfield in 2024, totaling just 70 defensive snaps over 10 regular-season games after playing 1,126 defensive snaps in his 22 games prior. His shortest path to snaps with the Bills to start 2025 will probably be with the special teams unit.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Plays 16 snaps vs. Dolphins

Forrest (hamstring) finished Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins with one tackle while playing 16 snaps (13 on offense, three on special teams). Forrest had been held out of practice since early August after sustaining a hamstring injury. He played in just five regular-season games last year due to a shoulder fracture in October, and his hamstring injury has prevented him from taking valuable reps with the defense. After starting at safety over the last two seasons, Forrest appears to be slated to serve in a backup role behind Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Working with backups

Quan Martin has been getting most of the first-team reps at free safety ahead of Forrest and Percy Butler, Hogs Haven's Jamual Forrest reports. Forrest and Butler both have starting experience, but Martin is an early draft pick (2023 second-rounder) with first-rate athleticism (4.46 40, 44-inch vertical). After mostly defending the slot as a rookie, Martin will move back in the secondary to facilitate rookie second-round pick Mike Sainristil becoming the new nickelback. With Jeremy Chinn expected to start at strong safety, Forrest and Butler look to be the odd men out.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Continues to make progress

Forrest (shoulder) is expected to be ready for offseason workouts, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports. Forrest suffered a fractured shoulder in October, which brought an end to his 2023 campaign early. The Cincinnati product spent about eight weeks with his arm in a sling before beginning rehab at the Commanders' facility and never underwent surgery to repair the injury.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Suffers shoulder fracture

Forrest suffered a fractured shoulder in Washington's Week 5 loss to the Bears on Thursday night and will be placed on injured reserve, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports. Forrest has started all five games to this point, playing 99 percent of the defensive snaps and registering 29 tackles. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined. Percy Butler is next up at safety for Washington, but the team figures to make a move at the position with Jeremy Reaves (knee) also headed to injured reserve.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Makes 11 tackles in win

Forrest posted 11 tackles (eight solo) during Sunday's 19-13 win versus the Falcons. Forrest set a new career high in tackles while finishing as the Commanders' leading tackler Week 12. The second-year safety also played every defensive snap for the third game in a row, as previous starting free safety Bobby McCain continued to slot in at cornerback against Atlanta. Forrest has recorded 21 tackles and two interceptions over this span, and he should continue to put up solid production so long as he maintains this starting role moving forward.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Double-digit tackes in loss

Forrest registered 10 tackles (eight solo) during Sunday's 36-27 loss to the Lions. Forrest tied Cole Holcomb with a team-high 10 tackles, giving them both 15 tackles across two games. The second-year safety is off to a hot start in his first season as a starter and already has two pass defenses, an interception and a forced fumble to go along with his team-high 15 tackles. He'll look to maintain his strong play against the Eagles in Week 3.

  • Commanders' Darrick Forrest: Impressive in Week 1 start

Forrest racked up five tackles (four solo), one forced fumble, one interception and two passes defensed during Sunday's 28-22 win over the Jaguars. Forrest's toe-tapping interception of Trevor Lawrence secured the win for Washington, and his impact in place of starter Kamren Curl (thumb) won't be lost on the team's coaching staff. It's possible that Forrest's standout first career start could lead to more opportunities even when Curl is back in action.

  • Football Team's Darrick Forrest: Placed on COVID-19 list

Forrest was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. Forrest was one of seven Washington players to be placed on the COVID list Wednesday. A depth piece in the secondary, Forrest has only appeared on special teams so far in 2021.

  • Football Team's Darrick Forrest: Works out on side field

Forrest (hamstring) worked out with trainers on a side field during Thursday's practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. The rookie fifth-round pick is on injured reserve and won't be eligible to return until Week 4 at the earliest, but he's apparently making good progress toward that return date. Once he's cleared, Forrest will likely carve out a role on special teams.
