    The Lions waived Niese (leg) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Niese's tenure in Detroit has come to an end after he suffered a leg injury during the team's preseason finale against the Commanders. The 28-year-old will now look to get healthy and catch on with another team.

  • Lions' Michael Niese: Reverts to IR

    Niese (leg) reverted to the Lions' injured-reserve list Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Niese suffered a right leg injury in the Lions' preseason game against the Commanders on Aug. 22. The offensive lineman was waived Sunday with an injury designation and went unclaimed. Niese will now spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

    Niese (leg) was spotted leaving the Lions' locker room in crutches after sustaining an injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. Niese had his right leg crushed by a defender in Saturday's contest and is feared to have suffered an MCL sprain in his right knee. The reserve center has been a versatile piece of the Lions' offensive line and will likely need to miss time with the injury.
