Fantasy News

  • 49ers' Luke Farrell: No receptions Sunday

Farrell was not targeted as a receiver in Sunday's 41-22 victory over Arizona. Farrell was able to nab his second touchdown of the season against the Rams last week, but he reverted to his blocking role against the Cardinals on Sunday. The veteran backup logged 16 snaps on offense (29 percent) behind George Kittle's dominant 6-67-2 receiving line. Farrell's fantasy value is completely dependent on vulturing short touchdowns from Kittle, which keeps the former off the fantasy radar for Week 12.

  • 49ers' Luke Farrell: Hits pay dirt in loss

Farrell had two receptions on as many targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-26 loss to the Rams. Farrell got back in the scoring column after recording the first touchdown of his career against the Saints in Week 2. The blocking tight end had just five receptions for 48 yards in the seven games in between his trips to the end zone. Farrell's minimal role on offense keeps him out of the fantasy conversation in standard formats.

  • 49ers' Luke Farrell: Scores first TD of career

Farrell brought in two of three targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Saints. Farrell got the start in place of George Kittle (hamstring) on Sunday, finishing with 41 snaps played on offense (58 percent). Jake Tonges wound up playing more snaps (79 percent) while garnering more targets (five) in the passing game, but it was Farrell who cashed in one of Mac Jones's three touchdown passes. It appears that the 49ers will deploy both tight ends in tandem while Kittle mends on injured reserve. In that scenario, neither option offers much fantasy upside heading into next Sunday's tilt against Arizona.

  • 49ers' Luke Farrell: Catches one pass Sunday

Farrell brought in his only target for four yards in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks. Starter George Kittle (hamstring) left the contest after scoring an early touchdown, opening up a chunk of playing time for the team's backup tight ends. Farrell finished with the most snaps played on offense (44), but it was third-stringer Jake Tonges (3-15-1) who absorbed Kittle's fantasy production despite logging 14 less snaps. It appears the 49ers view Farrell primarily as a blocking tight end regardless of where he sits on the depth chart. It is currently unclear how long Kittle will be sidelined for (if at all), but it appears that Tonges would be the fantasy beneficiary if the former can't suit up against the Saints next Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Secures both targets

Farrell caught both his targets for 13 yards during Sunday's 18-13 loss to Cleveland. The 26-year-old had an increased role since starting tight end Evan Engram (hamstring) was a late scratch Sunday, but it was Brenton Strange who operated as Jacksonville's primary tight end with three catches for 65 yards and a 68 percent snap share. Farrell played 28 of 60 offensive snaps and is unlikely to be significantly involved in the passing game even if Engram misses more time.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Minor role Week 1

Farrell played 14 offensive snaps and didn't receive a target during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Dolphins. Evan Engram was the only Jaguars tight end to be involved in the passing game in the season opener. Farrell tallied career highs in catches (13) and receiving yards (155) last season, and he should continue to see occasional snaps as a blocking option.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Minor role in loss

Farrell caught his lone target for nine yards during Monday's 34-31 loss to the Bengals. The 26-year-old set career highs with three catches and 55 yards last week in Houston, but he was far less involved in the passing game versus Cincinnati. Farrell remains the top backup to starting tight end Evan Engram but doesn't have much fantasy, utility with just 22 receptions for 216 yards through 44 career games.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Totals career-high 55 yards

Farrell caught three of five targets for 55 yards during Sunday's 24-21 win versus the Texans. The 26-year-old has been an afterthought in the Jaguars' passing attack all year with just seven targets through the first 10 games, but he was significantly more involved Sunday. Farrell has set career highs with 10 catches and 111 yards this season, but he's not close to being on the fantasy radar.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: No role in passing game

Farrell played 33 offensive snaps but wasn't targeted during Sunday's 31-21 win over the Colts. The 25-year-old operated as Jacksonville's secondary tight end behind starter Evan Engram but wasn't involved in the passing game. Farrell played in all 17 games last season but caught just four passes for 40 yards, and he's unlikely to see much week-to-week involvement in the aerial attack again this year.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Limited largely to special teams

Farrell played 10 of his 11 snaps on special teams in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Ravens. Jacksonville kept four tight ends active Week 12, but Farrell and Dan Arnold (three snaps on offense) ranked far behind starter Evan Engram (51 snaps) and top backup Chris Manhertz (20 snaps) in terms of usage. Even if an injury to Engram or Manhertz opens up more playing time at tight end, Arnold is a better bet than Farrell to contribute as a pass catcher.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Zero targets in finale

Farrell didn't receive a target during Sunday's 26-11 win over Indianapolis. Farrell started Sunday's contest alongside Chris Manhertz, but Jacob Hollister was the only Jacksonville tight end to be targeted in the passing game. Farrell finished his rookie campaign with seven receptions for 56 yards in 15 games, and he should enter 2022 competing for a depth role with Manhertz behind Dan Arnold (knee), who currently projects to be the team's No. 1 tight end.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Back from COVID list

Farrell (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. Farrell tested positive for the virus Monday but is back on the active roster without missing a game. James O'Shaughnessy (hip) has been unable to practice this week while Chris Manhertz (illness) and Jacob Hollister (illness) remain in the health and safety protocols, so Farrell could be in line for an increased workload this weekend in New England.

  • Jaguars' Luke Farrell: Placed on COVID list

Jacksonsille placed Farrell on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday after he tested positive for the virus, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Farrell played one offensive snap Sunday against the Jets and is now on the COVID-19 list. Chris Manhertz (illness) was also added to the list, leaving James O'Shaughnessy and Jacob Hollister as the only healthy tight ends on the roster.
