Bosa (knee) underwent surgery to address his torn ACL on Friday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Bosa suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in the team's Week 3 win over the Cardinals, and his surgery Friday "went great," according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The defensive end will shift his focus to being ready for training camp in 2026.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Officially sent to IR

The 49ers placed Bosa (knee) on injured reserve Thursday. Bosa torę his ACL in last Sunday's win over the Cardinals and will miss the remainder of the season. He's slated to undergo surgery Friday, as the star edge rusher suffered a clean tear of the ACL, paving the way for a relatively straightforward rehab process. Bosa turns 28 years old next month and will wrap up the 2025 campaign with 17 tackles (nine solo), including 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery across three regular-season contests. He was on his way to yet another big season on the stat sheet.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: ACL tear confirmed

Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday that Bosa is out for the season with an ACL injury, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Shanahan noted that there was no additional damage to Bosa's knee beyond an ACL tear, but the star defensive end nonethless faces a lengthy recovery period. In Bosa's absence, Bryce Huff, Mykel Williams and Yetur Gross-Matos are candidates to see added roles in the 49ers defense going forward, according to Vic Tafur, Dianna Russini and Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Season-ending injury feared

Bosa (knee) is feared to have suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Sunday's win over the Cardinals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Bosa appears set for surgery, despite initial reports indicating that he had avoided an ACL tear after being forced out of Sunday's 16-15 win over the Cardinals. The 49ers haven't yet officially confirmed the severity of Bosa's injury, but expectations are that the team will have to proceed forward without the the five-time Pro Bowler. Schefter reports that Bosa suffered a "clean" ACL tear, which will at least provide him a clearer rehab process as he works to get fully healthy for the 2026 season.

Bosa (knee) did not tear his ACL when he got injured during Sunday's 16-15 win over the Cardinals, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. The defensive end suffered the injury in the first quarter and did not return. After the win, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said tests would be needed to determine a diagnosis, per Barrows. The five-time Pro Bowler has 17 tackles (nine solo), including 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on the young season.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Exits with knee injury

Bosa is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to a knee injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa appeared to suffer a knee injury late in the first quarter after being hit hard on a double team, per Wagoner. Bosa was in the blue medical tent before departing for the locker room, where he will be evaluated to determine whether he can return to Sunday's game. Yetur Gross-Matos, Sam Okuayinonu and Bryce Huff will see more snaps at defensive end for as long as Bosa is out of the game.

Bosa recorded six solo tackles, including 1.0 sacks, while also adding a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks. Bosa was a major problem for Seattle, recording a strip sack of Sam Darnold in fourth quarter, recovering the fumble and effectively ending the game. The defensive end has registered at least 9.0 sacks in each of the last four seasons and five of his six total campaigns in the NFL, and he has now picked up where he left off to open 2025.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Practicing in limited capacity

Bosa (neck) was limited to individual drills during Tuesday's training camp practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa was held out of practice prior to sitting out of the 49ers' second preseason game at Las Vegas with neck soreness, and it still appears to be ailing him ahead of Saturday's preseason game versus the Chargers. As long as he's still sidelined, Sam Okuayinonu will be a contender for first-team reps on the edge.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Past knee injury

Bosa (knee) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports. Bosa appears to have recovered from his knee injury in time to suit up Sunday, as he began the 49ers' week of practice with consecutive DNPs before upgrading to a full session Friday. The All-Pro defensive end has appeared in 13 games this season, recording 52 total tackles, including 9.0 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. With Bosa back at full health, he's expected to wreak havoc on the Cardinals' offensive line and cause problems for Kyler Murray in Week 18.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Could suit up Sunday

Bosa (hip/oblique) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Bosa appeared to be trending toward not playing in Sunday's contest after downgrading from a limited practice session Wednesday to a DNP on Thursday. The Ohio State product then practiced in a limited capacity again Friday, giving himself a chance to take the field Week 16. If he's unable to play through his hip and oblique injuries Sunday, Robert Beal (ankle, questionable) or Yetur Gross-Matos will likely start opposite Leonard Floyd.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Misses practice Thursday

Bosa (oblique/hip) was a non-participant at the 49ers' practice Thursday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Bosa was able to participate in a limited capacity to open the week Wednesday, taking a step backwards in his activity level just a day later. With the 49ers unlikely to make the postseason, the team will likely be very conservative with their superstar edge rusher. If Bosa can't go in Week 16, Yetur Gross-Matos and Robert Beal would stand to see an increase in workload Sunday versus the Dolphins.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Limited to open week

Bosa (oblique/hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Bosa returned from a three-game absence to play in the 49ers' Week 15 loss to the Rams this past Thursday, finishing with four tackles (two solo) while playing 47 defensive snaps. He should be able to play against the Dolphins on Sunday unless he downgrades to a DNP over the next two days.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Active Thursday

Bosa (oblique/hip) is active for Thursday night's matchup with the Rams, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. This ends a three-game absence for the four-time Pro Bowler and 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, who accumulated 36 tackles (24 solo), including 7.0 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in his first 10 games of 2024. Bosa was listed as a non-participant on the 49ers' first two practice reports of the week and a limited participant Wednesday, so his snap count in Thursday's game will be worth monitoring.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Estimated as DNP

Bosa (oblique) was estimated as a non-participant at Monday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa has been sidelined for the 49ers' last three games due to a left oblique injury that he aggravated in Week 11 against the Seahawks. Although he is considered day-to-day heading into Thursday's game against the Rams, Bosa hasn't been able to participate in practice since the injury, and he would be a longshot to play unless he returns to practice Tuesday or Wednesday.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Ruled out for Week 14

Bosa (oblique) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Bosa was unable to practice this week due to a left oblique injury, and he is set to miss his third straight game. Given the 49ers have a short turnaround before their next game against the Rams on Thursday, Dec. 12, it's possible Bosa will be sidelined for a fourth game. Robert Beal and Yetur Gross-Matos will continue to see more defensive snaps due to Bosa's injury.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Doubtful for Sunday

Bosa (oblique) is listed as doubtful ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bears, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Bosa logged back-to-back DNPs to begin San Francisco's week of practice and is expected to miss his third consecutive game Sunday after sustaining an oblique injury in a Week 11 loss to the Seahawks. Robert Beal and Yetur Gross-Matos will likely continue to see increased snaps with the 49ers' first-team defense while Bosa remains sidelined in Week 14.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Stays sidelined

Bosa (oblique) will not practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Bosa has missed the 49ers' last two games and it appears he may be in danger of missing a third. Considering he hasn't practiced since suffering the injury in Week 11 against the Seahawks, he'll likely need to practice in some fashion Thursday or Friday to have any chance of suiting up against the Bears on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Won't practice Wednesday

Bosa (hip) will not practice Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bosa played through his hip issue in the 49ers' Week 10 win over the Buccaneers and recorded four total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, across 49 defensive snaps. Wednesday's DNP is likely precautionary, but the All-Pro defensive end could be in jeopardy of missing Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks if he can't upgrade to at least limited participation either Thursday or Friday.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Good to go Sunday

Bosa (hip) is active for Sunday's Week 10 battle against the Buccaneers, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. Bosa was questionable heading into the weekend due to a hip injury. Though he's going to suit up Sunday, the veteran defensive end could log less defensive snaps than usual, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Bosa has 4.5 sacks through eight contests, putting him on pace for his lowest total since 2020, when he played in only two games due to injury.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Questionable for Week 10

Bosa (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Inman relays that Bosa was "extremely limited" during Friday's practice after suffering a hip pointer injury during Wednesday's session. That could mean Bosa is a true game-time decision for Sunday's game, and even if he does play, the 2019 first-round pick may operate on a limited amount of plays, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Either way, Robert Beal and Sam Okuayinonu should see increased snaps on defense alongside starting defensive end Leonard Floyd.
