  • Cole Fotheringham: Time up in New England

The Patriots waived Fotheringham on Friday, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports. Fotheringham went undrafted out of Utah back in 2022, spent his rookie year on Las Vegas' practice squad, then suited up for two regular-season games with the Raiders in 2023. Since then, he's logged stints with the Texans, Broncos and Patriots, but he didn't get a chance to suit up for regular-season action with any of those clubs and won't make New England's initial 53-man roster.

  • Patriots' Cole Fotheringham: Signs with New England

The Patriots signed Fotheringham (undisclosed) to a contract Wednesday. Fotheringham was let go with an injury settlement by the Broncos in early June due to an undisclosed injury. He appears to be past the issue, and the Utah product will look to earn a spot on the Patriots' 53-man roster as a backup tight end. Fotheringham last saw regular-season action in 2023 with the Raiders, when he played 32 snaps (21 on offense, 11 on special teams) across two games while catching one pass for six yards.

  • Cole Fotheringham: Waived with injury settlement

Fotheringham (undisclosed) was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement by the Broncos last Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The settlement allows Fotheringham to play in 2025 if he can find an opportunity with another team, though the nature and severity of his injury remain unclear. The tight end spent time on the Raiders' and Texans' practice squads in 2024 and last caught an NFL pass in 2023. For his career, Fotheringham has one catch for six yards on 21 offensive snaps.

  • Broncos' Cole Fotheringham: Reverts to injured reserve

Fotheringham (undisclosed) reverted to the Broncos' injured reserve list Wednesday. Fotheringham was waived/injured by Denver on Tuesday and will spend the 2025 season on injured reserve unless he's cut with an injury settlement at a later date.

  • Cole Fotheringham: Waived with injury designation

The Broncos waived/injured Fotheringham (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Fotheringham attended Denver's rookie minicamp and subsequently inked a contract with the club, but he'll now hit the waiver wire. It's unclear what type of injury he's dealing with. Fotheringham's exit Tuesday cleared room on the Broncos' roster for the signing of another tight end, Caden Prieskorn.

  • Cole Fotheringham: Lands in Vegas

Fotheringham signed with the Raiders' practice squad Tuesday. Fotheringham spent time with Las Vegas last season and was also with the franchise during training camp. However, despite not making their 53-man roster, he'll get another chance with the team, this time on their practice squad.

  • Raiders' Cole Fotheringham: Active for OTAs

Fotheringham (hamstring) has been participating in the Raiders' OTA sessions. Fotheringham suffered a hamstring injury in the team's Week 17 matchup with the Colts before signing a reserve/future contract with the Raiders in January. He now looks to be a full go ahead of the 2024 campaign after he appeared in two contests with Las Vegas last season, reeling in his only target for six yards while playing 21 offensive snaps. The 26-year-old will attempt to carve out a reserve tight end role this season behind Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers.

  • Cole Fotheringham: Returns to practice squad

The Raiders reverted Fotheringham to their practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's transaction log. With primary tight end Michael Mayer (toe) unable to play Monday against Kansas City, Las Vegas elevated Fotheringham from the practice squad for the first time in his career. In his initial taste of NFL regular-season action, the Utah product played 19 offensive snaps and eight special-teams snaps, catching his only target for a six-yard gain. Whether Fotheringham gets elevated again this week likely depends on Mayer's ability (or inability) to suit up.
