Johnson is coming off a breakout season in which he easily set career bests with 77 receptions and 889 yards, so it's little surprise that he remains the top tight end for the Saints. Now trailing him on the depth chart are offseason acquisition Noah Fant and rookie third-rounder Oscar Delp.

Saints' Juwan Johnson: Heads reloaded TE room
Johnson remains the Saints' top tight end after New Orleans added Noah Fant in free agency and selected Oscar Delp in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Luke Johnson of NOLA.com reports.
Johnson restructured his deal with the Saints in March to free up cap space and is coming off a career year, but the team's offseason investments at tight end gives him more competition for targets. Fant represents another proven receiving option, while Delp's athleticism could make him an upgrade over departees Jack Stoll and Foster Moreau. New Orleans also added a first-round wideout in rookie Jordyn Tyson (undisclosed), further muddying the target share picture. While Johnson's role in the passing game is secure, matching last year's volume of a career-high 103 targets and 77 receptions will likely be a tough ask.

Saints' Juwan Johnson: Agrees to restructure
Johnson and the Saints agreed to terms on a contract restructure Friday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson's restructure converts part of his base salary into a signing bonus, freeing up $6.29 million in cap space for the team. The veteran tight end enjoyed a career year in head coach Kellen Moore's offense in 2025 and flashed reliable rapport with quarterback Tyler Shough, totaling a career-best 77-889-3 receiving line (103 targets) while suiting up for all 17 regular-season games. Saints' Juwan Johnson: Team-high yardage in finale
Johnson secured three of five targets for 61 yards in the Saints' 19-17 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
The veteran tight end led the Saints in receiving yards while also securing a team-high 28-yard grab. Johnson had an opportunity for extra targets due to the absences of both Chris Olave (illness) and Mason Tipton (IR, groin), but Tyler Shough ended up spreading the ball around to seven different pass catchers overall. Johnson finished the 2025 season with a career-best 77 receptions and 889 receiving yards, and he totaled three touchdowns for the second consecutive season. Johnson brought in all four targets for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' 34-26 win over the Titans on Sunday.
Johnson tied for second in receptions while checking in as the runner-up in receiving yards as well for the Saints, continuing a multi-week run of productive performances. The veteran tight end has at least four receptions in seven straight games, and he's recorded at least 89 receiving yards in three of those contests. Johnson heads into a Week 18 road matchup against the Falcons already boasting a career-high 74 catches and 828 receiving yards across 16 games.
