Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Notches save Monday
Nunez earned a save against the Yankees on Monday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.
Rico Garcia had picked up the Orioles' past two saves after regular closer Ryan Helsley (elbow) landed on the IL on May 1, but Garcia was deployed in the eighth inning Monday to face the heart of New York's order (Ben Rice, Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger). After Garcia got through that frame unscathed, Nunez entered in the ninth and worked around a two-out single to successfully close things out. It was Nunez's second save of the campaign -- his other one came April 22 versus Kansas City. Garcia has been dominant this season and remains Baltimore's primary ninth-inning option while Helsley is sidelined, but it appears manager Craig Albernaz is open to using Garcia earlier if the situation calls for it, which makes Nunez a candidate for occasional save chances.

Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Nets first save
Nunez earned the save in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Royals, striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
With Ryan Helsley landing on the bereavement list ahead of Wednesday's game, it was Nunez who got the call with Baltimore up by two in the ninth inning. The right-hander made quick work of the Royals, striking out a pair en route to his first major-league save. The 24-year-old Nunez has gotten off to an excellent start in his rookie campaign, earning a high-leverage role in Baltimore's bullpen. His ERA is down to 1.46 with a 0.65 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB across 12.1 innings.

Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Adds first win to strong start
Nunez (1-0) recorded the win Monday against the Royals, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk in two innings of relief. He struck out one.
The rookie right-hander is emerging as a multi-inning weapon out of the Baltimore bullpen, producing a 1.59 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over his first 11.1 frames. Nunez has three holds and one save opportunity so far, and he's making a serious case for more high-leverage work going forward.

Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Clinches roster spot
The Orioles recalled Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.
Despite being optioned to the minors back on March 8, Nunez will end up joining the Orioles ahead of Opening Day after a spot opened up with Keegan Akin (groin) landing on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Nunez has yet to make his MLB debut but pitched effectively out of the Norfolk bullpen last season after he was acquired in a trade with the Mets last July. Over 16 appearances for Norfolk, Nunez posted a 3.45 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB across 15.2 innings.

Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Sent to minor-league camp
Nunez was optioned to the Orioles' minor-league camp Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Nunez appeared in five games with Baltimore during spring training, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out six batters over five innings. The right-handed pitcher will now likely open the season with Triple-A Norfolk, and he'll look to impress in an attempt to get a shot with the major-league roster this season.
