Mariners' Troy Watson: Claimed by M's
The Mariners claimed Watson off waivers from Detroit on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.
Watson was DFA'd by the Tigers on Wednesday despite having posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 55 innings with the team's Triple-A affiliate. The 29-year-old righty has yet to make his MLB debut, but he could receive an opportunity to pitch for Seattle at some point if he continues to pitch well at Tacoma.

Tigers' Troy Watson: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Tigers designated Watson for assignment Wednesday.
Detroit added Watson to its 40-man roster July 19, but he remained at Triple-A Toledo and didn't wind up making any appearances for the big club before getting DFA'd to clear room for Corey Julks, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. While handling a swingman role at Toledo this season, Watson has submitted a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB over 55 innings.

Tigers' Troy Watson: Contract selected, sent to Toledo
Detroit selected Watson's contract from Triple-A Toledo and optioned him back to Toledo on Sunday.
According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Watson recently received a lucrative offer to pitch overseas, so the Tigers upgraded him from his minor-league contract and added him to the 40-man roster to ensure he stuck around in the organization. Watson has excelled while working primarily out of the rotation this season at Toledo, posting a 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 46 innings. In order to make room for Watson on the 40-man roster, the Tigers transferred Will Vest (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.

Tigers' Troy Watson: Excelling out of Triple-A rotation
Watson (elbow) has produced a 2.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 29:13 K:BB in 41 innings over 10 appearances (seven starts) for Triple-A Toledo since being activated from the 7-day injured list May 9.
Watson got off to a delayed start to the season while completing his recovery from arthroscopic right elbow surgery, but he's been a strong performer out of the Toledo rotation after completing a rehab assignment and returning from the IL. Despite his strong numbers at Triple-A, Watson doesn't look to have a clear path to a promotion anytime soon due to the crowded nature of the Detroit rotation and his lack of a 40-man roster spot.

Tigers' Troy Watson: On mend from elbow surgery
Watson is scheduled to begin a throwing program Monday as he works his way back from arthroscopic right elbow surgery, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Watson is in camp as a non-roster invitee, but he may not have enough time to complete his rehab and see Grapefruit League action before the end of the spring. Whenever he's back to full health, He's likely to head to Triple-A Toledo, where he'll presumably settle back into a starting role. After beginning last season as a reliever, Watson held his own upon moving into the Toledo rotation, logging a 3.20 ERA while punching out 59 batters over 70.1 innings across 14 starts.
