Padres' Mason Miller: Goes on bereavement leave
The Padres placed Miller on the bereavement/family medical leave list Monday.
According to MLB rules, Miller must remain on the bereavement list for at least the next three days and no more than seven. Jason Adam has served as the Friars' top setup man and could represent the top choice for any save chances that arise while Miller is away from the team. Miller is well on his way to earning the second All-Star nod of his career this season, as he's converted all 19 of his save opportunities while submitting a 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 59:12 K:BB over 30 innings.

The hard-throwing right-hander has been a lights-out closer for the Padres and fantasy managers alike in 2026, converting all 19 of his save opportunities so far. Miller, who leads the National League in saves, has a shiny 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 59:12 K:BB over 30 frames.

Padres' Mason Miller: Converts 18th save
Miller allowed a walk and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Mets.
Miller allowed a run in a non-save situation Friday, but he was strong when he needed to be Saturday. Over his last nine appearances (9.1 innings), he has a 17:9 K:BB, though the recent lack of control has yet to lead to a blown save for him. He's converted all 18 of his save opportunities so far while pitching to a 1.01 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 51:12 K:BB through 26.2 innings. Considering Miller has pitched consecutive days, Jason Adam or Adrian Morejon may be called upon for a save chance if one comes up Sunday.

Padres' Mason Miller: Battles control in 17th save
Miller walked two and struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings Friday to record his 17th save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Nationals.
The flame-throwing righty needed 30 pitches (17 strikes) to get the job done, and Miller got a little lucky when a Luis Garcia line drive nearly got over Ramon Laureano's head in left field for what could have been a game-tying double in the eighth inning. Miller remains perfect in closing situations on the season, having converting 17 straight save chances in 2026 and 19 straight dating back to Aug. 6 of last year, and through 25 innings he sports a 0.72 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB.

Padres' Mason Miller: Clean inning for save
Miller struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Athletics.
Miller locked things down in the ninth inning against his former team. He hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 9.1 innings, giving up just one unearned run, four hits and seven walks while striking out 19 in that span. The closer is up to 16 saves this season, and he's added a sparkling 0.76 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 47:9 K:BB through 23.2 innings. As long as he stays healthy, Miller is on pace to easily surpass his career-high 28 saves from 2024 with the Athletics.

Padres' Mason Miller: Locks in for 15th save
Miller picked up the save Monday against the Dodgers. He allowed no hits and two walks while striking out one over a scoreless inning.
Miller struggled to find the zone initially, issuing a pair of walks to open the bottom of the ninth inning. The big right-hander was able to work out of the self-inflicted jam unscathed, however, to complete the shutout and secure his MLB-leading 15th save. Miller has been nothing short of dominant in 2026, posting a 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB with no blown saves across 22 innings.

Padres' Mason Miller: Nails down 13th save
Miller secured the save Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks in the ninth inning. He struck out two.
It didn't look like the Padres would have a save opportunity Wednesday, but Gavin Sheets' go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the ninth frame opened the door for Miller. The hard-throwing right-hander did allow the possible tying run to get to the plate, but he struck out Jackson Chourio to seal the win for San Diego and deliver a fifth straight scoreless appearance. Through 19.2 innings this year, Miller has a scintillating 0.92 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 40:5 K:BB while converting all 13 of his save chances.

Padres' Mason Miller: Continues dominant campaign
Miller picked up a save against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing two walks and striking out four batters over 1.1 hitless and scoreless innings.
Miller came into Saturday having recorded more than three outs just once over 17 appearances. However, he was called upon in the eighth frame with a St. Louis runner on second base and two outs. Miller ended the inning by inducing a groundout and unsurprisingly was back on the mound for the ninth. He got himself into a bit of trouble with a pair of walks, then uncorked a wild pitch on a strikeout to allow the batter to reach first base and load the bases, but Miller ultimately escaped with the save by getting JJ Wetherholt to strike out. The All-Star closer has been utterly dominant so far this season, going 12-for-12 on save chances while allowing just two earned runs and racking up an absurd 38:5 K:BB over 18.2 innings spanning 18 outings.
