  • Cade Marlowe: Planning to opt out of contract

Marlowe informed the Angels that he will trigger his upward-mobility clause and opt out of his minor-league contract Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Unless the Angels are willing to dedicate a 40-man roster spot to Marlowe, he'll be formally released and free to sign with any team. The 29-year-old outfielder has been a standout performer at the Triple-A level between stops in the Athletics and Angels organizations this season, slashing .315/.394/.515 with nine home runs and 27 stolen bases in 93 games.

  • Cade Marlowe: Exercises opt-out clause

Marlowe exercised an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract with the Athletics and became free agent Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Marlowe inked a minor-league pact with the Athletics in January and has slashed .317/.394/.521 with seven homers, 50 RBI, 67 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and a 39:72 BB:K across 361 plate appearances while playing his home games in hitter-friendly Las Vegas. The 29-year-old hasn't played in a big-league game since the 2024 season with the Mariners.

  • Athletics' Cade Marlowe: Goes to A's on MiLB pact

The Athletics signed Marlowe to a minor-league contract Dec. 19.

Marlowe was removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster prior to the 2025 season and wound up spending all of the year in the minors, slashing .316/.401/.474 in 46 games with Triple-A Tacoma. The 28-year-old can handle all three outfield spots and will give the Athletics some experienced depth.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Outrighted to Triple-A

Marlowe was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday after clearing waivers.

Marlowe was DFA'd by the Mariners this past Monday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Jorge Polanco (knee). Marlowe wasn't claimed off waivers, so he'll remain in Seattle's organization and will head to Triple-A for the start of the 2025 campaign. He spent most of the 2024 season with Tacoma, where he slashed .235/.341/.395 with 43 stolen bases, 13 home runs and 45 RBI over 411 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Scrubbed from 40-man roster

The Mariners designated Marlowe for assignment Monday, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.

Seattle needed to free up a spot on its 40-man roster for the addition of Jorge Polanco (knee). Marlowe, 27, has slashed .240/.330/.406 with three homers and four steals over 109 plate appearances at the major-league level over the last two seasons. He could draw some interest on waivers.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Optioned to Tacoma

The Mariners optioned Marlowe to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Marlowe has appeared in eight games since making his MLB debut July 23, going 2-for-8 with a walk and a run scored. He'll now be sent back to the minors, as the Mariners will opt to boost their infield depth by recalling Ryan Bliss from Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Singles as in-game replacement

Marlowe entered Sunday's loss to the Phillies as a defensive replacement in right field in the ninth inning and went 1-for-1.

The rookie led off the home half of the ninth for the Mariners and delivered his first hit since July 23, the initial game of his current big-league tenure. Marlowe received his promotion from Triple-A Tacoma following the placement of Julio Rodriguez (ankle) and J.P. Crawford (finger) on the injured list, but he's logged only eight plate appearances across seven games since arriving in Seattle.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Reaches twice in '24 debut

Marlowe, called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, went 1-for-2 with a walk in a loss to the Angels on Tuesday.

Marlowe was making his 2024 big-league debut and started in right field as part of the domino effect of Julio Rodriguez's (ankle) placement on the injured list. The 27-year-old Marlowe posted a respectable .239/.330/.420 slash line across his first 100 major-league plate appearances a season ago, and he'd been having a decent campaign with Tacoma from an OBP perspective (.341) while also dazzling to the tune of 43 stolen bases. However, strikeouts have been a fairly persistent issue for Marlowe throughout his pro career, so it remains to be seen if that will continue to serve as a drag on his overall numbers against the highest level of competition.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Recalled from Triple-A

Marlowe was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Marlowe was last seen in the majors in the second half of the 2023 season when he slashed .239/.330/.420 with three home runs and 11 RBI across his first 34 big-league games. He's generated a slashed .235 average and .736 OPS across 90 games with the Rainiers this minor-league season, and his return to the majors comes with Julio Rodriguez (ankle) and J.P. Crawford (hand) both landing on the 10-day injured list.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Sent down to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Marlowe to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Productive in Cactus League loss

Marlowe went 2-for-2 with an RBI single, a double, a stolen base and two runs in the Mariners' Cactus League loss to the White Sox on Thursday.

Marlowe was reasonably effective during his first taste of the majors last season, posting a .239/.330/.420 slash line with eight extra-base hits (three doubles, two triples, three home runs), 11 RBI and four stolen bases among his contributions. The 26-year-old, who's capable of slotting in across the outfield, had opened spring training in a brief 0-for-6 skid before Thursday's breakout.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Marlowe to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

Marlowe will move off the Mariners' 28-man active roster to clear room for Jarred Kelenic (foot), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. While Kelenic had been sidelined since July 20 with the foot injury, Marlowe enjoyed about a month-long run as the Mariners' primary left fielder, but he had faded into more of a fourth- or fifth-outfielder role in recent weeks. Marlowe ends his first stint in the big leagues with a .239/.330/.420 slash line to go with three home runs, four stolen bases, 11 RBI and 14 runs over 100 plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Sitting again Friday

Marlowe remains out of the lineup Friday versus the Royals.

Marlowe got off to a terrific start when the Mariners first called him up from Triple-A Tacoma on July 20, but he has gone 4-for-33 (.121) with 15 strikeouts over his last 10 games. Dominic Canzone is playing left field for Seattle on Friday after Dylan Moore drew the start there in Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Hits bench Wednesday

Marlowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Dylan Moore will pick up a start in left field while Marlowe rests after going 1-for-9 with a walk, a stolen base and a run in the first two games of the series. The Mariners deployed Marlowe in center field in both of the past two games, but he'll return to a corner spot moving forward with Julio Rodriguez (illness) rejoining the lineup Wednesday.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Records fourth steal

Marlowe went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run in a win over the White Sox on Monday.

The rookie returned from a day off in Sunday's series finale against the Astros to hit safely for the third time in the last four games. Marlowe now sports an impressive .268/.366/.451 slash line across his first 82 big-league plate appearances, with the firs two metrics notably better than the respective .254 and .335 figures generated at Triple-A Tacoma during a combined 82 games there between 2022 and earlier this season.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Takes seat Sunday

Marlowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Dominic Canzone will spell Marlowe in left field after the latter manned the position in six of the last seven contests for Seattle. Marlowe is maintaining a healthy .827 OPS since his July 20 call-up from Triple-A Tacoma and should be locked into a near-everyday role in the Seattle outfield at least until Jarred Kelenic (foot) makes his return from the 10-day injured list.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Productive in Thursday's win

Marlowe went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs in a win over the Royals on Thursday.

Julio Rodriguez stole the show with a career-best five-hit, five-RBI effort, but Marlowe wreaked some havoc of his own from the bottom of the order. The rookie pushed his season slash line to an excellent .293/.397/.483, and he already has six multi-hit efforts in his first 22 big-league games.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Not starting Tuesday

Marlowe is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Kansas City, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Marlowe is 0-for-5 with a walk and four strikeouts over the past two games and will take a seat for Tuesday's contest. Dominic Canzone and Teoscar Hernandez will start in the corner outfield while Mike Ford serves as the designated hitter.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Busy night in Wednesday's win

Marlowe went 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk and two runs in a win over the Padres on Wednesday.

Marlowe's multi-hit effort out of the No. 8 spot in the order was his third in the last six games, a torrid stretch where's posted a .389 average and 1.006 OPS across 20 plate appearances. The rookie's busy night Wednesday resulted in a 30-point boost in his season average to .308, and he's also now sporting an elite .977 OPS. Both figures are a byproduct of the above-average plate discipline the 26-year-old has impressively displayed during his first foray versus big-league arms, one that's also helped generate a 15.2 percent walk rate and modest 19.6 percent strikeout rate.

  • Mariners' Cade Marlowe: Not in lineup Tuesday

Marlowe is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.

Marlowe boasts a .937 OPS through his first 42 major-league plate appearances, but he'll take a seat Tuesday after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's series finale against the Angels. Dominic Canzone, Julio Rodriguez and Teoscar Hernandez are starting across the outfield for the Mariners as they open a quick two-game set with San Diego.
