The Mariners reassigned Bird to their minor-league camp Monday.
Bird, who agreed to the Mariners on a minor-league deal March 14, was in attendance at big-league camp for about two weeks before Seattle opted to reassign him. The 28-year-old lefty's lone big-league action came in 2019, when he posted a 7.28 ERA and 2.05 WHIP across 12.2 innings with the Rangers.

Bird struck out one over two-thirds of an inning to pick up the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
This wasn't a save situation when the Rangers went into the bottom of the ninth inning up by four runs, but the left-handed Bird was given this surprise save chance after closer Jose Leclerc allowed a run and hit two batters. This was supposed to be a stress-free appearance for Leclerc, who blew a save Tuesday, which has caught the attention of manager Chris Woodward. Bird is not considered the next likely closer should Leclerc need time to figure out his issues, but the situation bears watching.

He'll make the big club as an eighth reliever and is expected to see most of his usage as a mop-up man or occasional matchups play against left-handed hitters. Bird has yet to make his MLB debut but submitted a tidy 1.94 ERA to go with a 65:26 K:BB in 55.2 innings at Triple-A Durham in the Rays organization last season.
Tampa Bay traded Bird to Texas on Friday in a three-team deal, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
Jurickson Profar was dealt to Oakland, while Bird, Brock Burke, Yoel Espinal, Eli White and international bonus money go to Texas, and Emilio Pagan, Rollie Lacy and the 38th pick in the 2019 draft go to Tampa Bay. Bird spent a majority of the 2018 campaign at Triple-A Durham before being added to the Rays' 40-man roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. Across 27 appearances (five starts) at the top level of the minors, he logged a phenomenal 1.94 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 65 strikeouts in 55.2 innings. He will likely begin next season with Triple-A Round Rock but could earn his first big-league promotion if he's able to continue finding success.
