NHL Player News

  • Joseph Woll G | PHI

Flyers' Joseph Woll: Win slips away Saturday

Woll stopped 21 shots in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Ducks.

The Flyers grabbed a 2-0 lead late in the first period on a pair of power-play tallies by Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone, but Woll couldn't make it hold up. The former Leafs goalie has gone 1-4-2 in seven starts with a 2.99 GAA and .904 save percentage while working in a strict timeshare with Dan Vladar, and the arrangement will likely continue until one of them makes a stronger claim for the top spot.

  • Jets' Domenic DiVincentiis: Logs shutout for Moose

DiVincentiis posted a 34-save shutout in AHL Manitoba's 2-0 win over Iowa on Saturday.

It's the second shutout of the season for DiVincentiis. The 22-year-old is 3-2-0 with a 2.02 GAA and a .941 save percentage over five games while splitting time with Thomas Milic in Manitoba's crease. The Jets are carrying three goalies in the NHL, so don't expect DiVincentiis to have much of a chance for a call-up this year.

  • Oilers' Tristan Jarry: Covered by thick blanket of Leafs

Jarry made 24 saves in a 7-2 win or loss against Toronto on Saturday. He allowed six goals.

Jarry had no chance on the opening goal -- it went in off his own teammate. He also had no chance on an Auston Matthews goal off a cross-ice pass that was on and off the Leafs star's tape in a split second. But then there were others that were suspect, especially the Leafs final goal which went through his wickets. Jarry came into the game with two consecutive wins, but it was clear he was behind Devon Levi (undisclosed) on the depth chart. Now, he has to carry the mail in the Oil Patch until at least mid-November when Levi is expected back, barring a setback. Jarry wasn't awful Saturday, but he also wasn't a difference maker. Oilers fans and fantasy managers need to hold their collective breath in the next few weeks.

  • Lukas Dostal G | ANA

Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Weathers early storm for fourth win

Dostal made 28 saves in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Flyers.

Philly grabbed a 2-0 lead late in the first period with a pair of power-play goals just 63 seconds apart from Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone, but Dostal kept his focus and gave Anaheim a chance to mount a comeback. The victory snapped a three-start losing streak for the 26-year-old netminder, and through eight outings this season Dostal sports a 4-4-0 record with a 3.27 GAA and .880 save percentage.

  • Maple Leafs' Anthony Stolarz: Best player on ice from both teams

Stolarz made 30 saves in Saturday's 7-2 win or loss against Edmonton.

Stolarz was the best player on the ice for both teams. He was confident and played at the top of his crease all night, and his lateral movement was crisp. It's clear Stolarz has a higher ceiling than batterymate Sergei Bobrovsky. Unfortunately, he also has a lower floor because he can easily cough up a hair ball, too. There's no chance Stolarz takes over for Bob, but he has the potential to be a 1B if needed.

  • Red Wings' Daniil Tarasov: Not available Saturday

Tarasov (undisclosed) won't suit up versus the Flames on Saturday.

Tarasov will be out of action for a second straight game. The 27-year-old's status hasn't been officially updated by the Red Wings, leaving his timeline for a return uncertain. Still, it is a positive that he's not yet on injured reserve. It's unclear at this time if Tarasov will be able to dress for Monday's road-trip finale in Edmonton.

  • Lightning's Dennis Hildeby: Slated starter Saturday

Hildeby is expected to start on the road against Utah on Saturday, per Lightning reporter Gabby Shirley.

Hildeby has won his first two appearances of the season while turning aside 46 of 50 shots (.920 save percentage). Utah will be a significant test, though. The Mammoth are seventh in terms of goals per game with 3.73 this campaign, which has helped them get to a 7-4-0 start.

  • Kings' Anton Forsberg: Doing his part but needs help

Forsberg made 23 saves Saturday in a 3-1 loss to New Jersey. He allowed two goals.

The game was tight until the Devils broke a 1-1 tie at 8:08 of the third period when defender Brett Pesce surprisingly got the game-winner. The Kings mustered just 13 shots and were outshot 14-3 in the second period. It was the fifth time in the past seven games that Los Angeles scored only one goal. Whoever is in net for the Kings will need better offensive support from their teammates to get wins.

  • Jake Allen G | NJ

Devils' Jake Allen: Barely tested in win

Allen made 12 saves Saturday in a 3-1 win over the Kings.

The only goal came on a bang-bang play in the second when Scott Laughton took a quick pass from behind the goal line and wired a shot from the left hash marks. Allen will be the go-to guy until newcomer Connor Hellebuyck (not injury related) is ready to play. Allen is 5-2-0 with a 2.84 GAA and .886 save percentage. His GSAx (goals saved above expected) was -3.7 heading into Saturday's game, but his numbers should improve in a backup role.

  • Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Tending twine in St. Louis

Kochetkov will guard the road goal versus the Blues on Saturday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Kochetkov will take his turn in the Hurricanes' goalie rotation. He has won all six starts this season, though he allowed a season-high three goals on just 17 shots against the Canucks in his last outing. The Blues have scored 21 goals over their last five games, though 13 of them have come in two games, so consistency isn't a common part of St. Louis' offense.
