Alexandre Carrier D | MON
Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: Rare game winner
Carrier had a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Toronto. His goal stood as the winner.
Carrier isn't known for his offense -- his seven goals last season equaled his total for the previous three seasons. And his last game winner came in 2023-24 when he wore a Nashville uniform. In fact, he has just four GWG in 370 games. Carrier's best fantasy category is his ability to block pucks -- he delivered a career high of 155 last season. But one-category wonders don't make for great fantasy assets.

Darren Raddysh D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Darren Raddysh: Looked nervous in debut
Raddysh fired three shots, delivered two blocks and finished minus-2 in 23:47 of ice time in a 3-2 loss to Montreal on Tuesday.
Raddysh looked a bit nervous on the ice, which isn't really a surprise -- he grew up in nearby Caledon on the edge of the Greater Toronto Area, and he likely had dozens of family and friends in the house. Raddysh was paired with Morgan Rielly, and neither man looked especially comfortable. It's game one, so we're not worried. Raddysh is fresh off a 22-goal, 70-point season with Tampa Bay, and he brings his booming shot and offense to the potent Toronto lineup.

Gustav Forsling D | FLA
Panthers' Gustav Forsling: Supplies only offense in season opener
Forsling scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 1-0 overtime victory over the Hurricanes.
It was a sloppy, chippy game to begin the regular season, but Forsling prevented it from going to a shootout when he blasted a one-timer past Brandon Bussi from the blue line with less than five seconds left in OT. Forsling managed only two goals in the 2025-26 regular season, ending a streak of four straight seasons in double digits, but the 30-year-old blueliner made an immediate statement to begin the current campaign that he intends to be more productive.

Tristan Luneau D | ANA
Ducks' Tristan Luneau: Sent to AHL
Luneau was assigned to AHL San Diego on Tuesday.
The Ducks recalled forward Cruz Lucius from the minors in a corresponding move. It wouldn't be surprising if the team change for both players is temporary. Assuming Drew Helleson (lower body) is ready for Friday's season opener against Vegas. Anaheim still needs at least one more healthy blueliner because Ian Moore's (lower body) is unavailable.

Carson Soucy D | CLB
Blue Jackets' Carson Soucy: Earns one-year deal
Soucy signed a one-year, $1.15 million contract with Columbus on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Soucy attended training camp with the Blue Jackets on a professional tryout agreement. The 32-year-old Soucy might have to compete for playing time with Emil Andrae until Damon Severson (shoulder) and Dante Fabbro (upper body) return to the lineup.

Vincent Iorio D | NYR
Rangers' Vincent Iorio: Hits waivers Tuesday
Iorio was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Tuesday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Iorio was placed on injured reserve by the Rangers on Monday before he ultimately ended up on waivers Tuesday. The 23-year-old blueliner had a shot to make the NHL roster after appearing in six regular-season games for the Rangers in 2025-26. If he clears waivers over the next 24 hours, he will report to AHL Hartford, where he could play a sizable role to begin the 2026-27 campaign.

Conor Timmins D | BUF
Sabres' Conor Timmins: No timeline for return
Timmins (lower body) doesn't have a timeline for his return yet, according to Heather Engel of NHL.com on Tuesday.
After getting hurt in Saturday's preseason finale against Pittsburgh, Timmins is on injured reserve for the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign. He registered eight assists, 44 shots on goal, 81 blocked shots and 29 hits in 39 regular-season appearances with Buffalo in 2025-26.

Brock Faber D | MIN
Wild's Brock Faber: Without timetable to return
Faber underwent a procedure to repair his fractured skull and is without a timetable to return, per Michael Russo of The Athletic.
Faber left Friday's preseason contest against the Stars in the second period with his confirmed skull fracture. The 24-year-old's status will be closely monitored in the coming days until a timetable for his return is provided. Faber's role is not one that can be easily filled, as he exploded for 15 goals, 51 points, 173 shots on net and 148 blocked shots across 80 regular-season games in the 2025-26 campaign. He's a worthy candidate to occupy the IR spot in fantasy until he's able to return to Minnesota's top defensive pairing.

Mattias Samuelsson D | BUF
Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Could be nearing return
Head coach Lindy Ruff stated that Samuelsson (lower body) could return to practice Wednesday, per Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report.
Samuelsson suffered his lower-body injury early in the preseason, but he appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery, given his initial timetable for return of week-to-week. The 26-year-old blueliner had a breakout season in 2025-26, where he posted 13 goals, 41 points, 109 shots on net, 132 hits and 154 blocked shots across 78 regular-season contests. While he might take a step back in the goal-scoring department in 2026-27, he remains a well-rounded defensemen that is a valuable player to have in category-based fantasy formats. If he can log full practice ahead of his eligible return date from IR, Samuelsson might only miss a handful of games to start the upcoming season.

Lukas Cormier D | LV
Golden Knights' Lukas Cormier: Lands on IR-NR
Cormier (undisclosed) will begin the 2026-27 regular season on the injured non-roster list, per SinBin.vegas.
Cormier was a limited participant throughout the Golden Knights' training camp before he ultimately appeared on injured reserve Tuesday. The 24-year-old blueliner wore a red non-contact jersey when he did skate, and his placement on IR will keep him out of action for at least the next seven days. He was highly effective with AHL Henderson in 2025-26, where he compiled eight goals and 47 points across 49 regular-season games. He should be involved with the Silver Knights in a similar role once he's healthy this season.
