  • Zach Hyman LW | EDM

Oilers' Zach Hyman: Registers helper in season debut

Hyman logged an assist, two shots on goal and 11 hits in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Hurricanes.

It's fair to say Hyman was amped up for his season debut as he returned from a wrist injury. The rest of the Oilers totaled just 14 hits as a group, while Hyman was a physical force in his 23:10 of ice time. He's right back on the top line and first power-play unit, so he's in a position to succeed and provide the spark the Oilers have been missing so far. Matt Savoie and Andrew Mangiapane are the most likely players to see their ice time slip now that Hyman is healthy.

  • Kevin Rooney C | UTA

Mammoth's Kevin Rooney: Brought up from minors

Rooney was recalled from AHL Tucson on Sunday.

Rooney has three goals and one assist in six minor-league appearances this campaign. He will accompany the Mammoth on the team's upcoming two-game road trip, which begins in Anaheim on Monday, but it's unclear if he will make his NHL season debut.

  • Filip Chytil C | VAN

Canucks' Filip Chytil: Skating again and feeling better

Chytil (upper body) has resumed skating and is feeling better, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports Sunday.

On injured reserve since Oct. 20, Chytil has missed 13 straight games with injury. The 26-year-old is back skating and seems to be closer to a potential return than fellow injured Canucks center Teddy Blueger (lower body). Chytil scored three goals in six games to begin the season.

  • Canucks' Teddy Blueger: Skating again

Blueger (lower body) is skating again but is still week-to-week, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports Sunday.

Blueger has been on injured reserve since Oct. 19 battling a lower-body injury, missing 13 games. The 31-year-old has appeared in just two games this season, scoring a goal in one of them. The Canucks recently signed David Kampf to reinforce the team's center depth, so it will be interesting to see where Blueger will slot in when he returns.

  • Kings' Quinton Byfield: Stays hot with helper

Byfield recorded an assist in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Senators.

After back-to-back games with a game-winning goal, Byfield had the secondary assist on Saturday's game-winning goal scored by Alex Laferriere. The 23-year-old Byfield has five points in his last three games and is up to 17 points through 19 games this season. He's well above the pace needed to top his career-best 55-point regular season in 2023-24. Byfield is second on the Kings in points behind Adrian Kempe.

  • Ben Meyers C | SEA

Kraken's Ben Meyers: Dropped to AHL

Meyers was loaned to AHL Coachella Valley on Sunday.

Meyers was a healthy scratch in Saturday's 4-1 win over San Jose because Frederick Gaudreau returned to the lineup from an upper-body injury. The 27-year-old Meyers has three assists, eight shots on net and 14 hits in nine NHL appearances this season.

  • Capitals' Connor McMichael: Ends drought Saturday

McMichael had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils.

McMichael found the back of the net with a snap shot in the third period and also assisted on Alex Ovechkin's equalizer. This two-point output snapped McMichael's five-game pointless streak, and he also found the back of the net for the first time since Oct. 24. McMichael will continue to have opportunities to produce as long as he skates on the first line alongside Ovechkin and Dylan Strome, but McMichael's lack of production has limited his upside considerably.

  • Dylan Larkin C | DET

Red Wings' Dylan Larkin: Goal in third straight game

Larkin scored a goal and took three shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Sabres.

Larkin went five straight games without a goal between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7, but he has left those woes behind him after finding the back of the net in each of his last three games. This time, Larkin did it with a wrister at the 5:56 mark of the second period. Larkin has been one of the most productive players on offense for the Red Wings with 11 goals and 22 total points in 18 appearances.

  • J.T. Miller C | NYR

Rangers' J.T. Miller: Scores winner in shootout

Miller scored the game-winning tally in the shootout and added two hits in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets.

Miller fired a snap shot that found twine to help the Rangers win both the shootout and the game 2-1. Overall, the 32-year-old center has nine points and 50 hits this season. While his offensive outputs have been minimal as New York's offense has struggled at points this season, Miller has still provided some value in banger leagues with his high hit total. He has four goals and nine points through 19 games.

  • Sabres' Tage Thompson: Another multi-point effort

Thompson recorded a goal, an assist and six shots on goal in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Red Wings.

Thompson came through when the Sabres needed him the most, scoring the team's third goal at the 4:25 mark of the final frame and assisting on Mattias Samuelsson's game-winner. Thompson has been playing well of late, recording three multi-point efforts in his last four games and totaling six points (three goals, three assists) in that span.
