Shesterkin will require surgery and a lengthy rehab process to address his season-ending right knee injury, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports Sunday. Shesterkin was hurt during Friday's game against the Capitals when his right leg got jammed into the post while returning to the crease on a scrambled play, and the Rangers ruled him out for the season a day later. He was placed on injured reserve Sunday, and the team has now provided some clarification on the exact nature of his injury. Dylan Garand is slated to serve as the Rangers' No. 1 option in the crease until Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) is back in action.

Shesterkin (lower body) was placed on long-term injured reserve by the Rangers on Sunday, per Mollie Walker of the New York Post. As expected, Shesterkin will move to LTIR less than 24 hours after he was ruled out for the season with a lower-body injury. It's a devastating setback for the 30-year-old netminder and the Rangers' organization, as Shesterkin was dialed in to begin the new season, compiling a 3-1-0 record, a 1.79 GAA and a .927 save percentage across five appearances. He'll set his sights on being healthy for the start of the 2027-28 regular season. In the meantime, Dylan Garand is expected to be the lead option between the pipes until Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) is ready to return.

Shesterkin (lower body) will be out for the remainder of the 2026-27 season, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com on Saturday. Shesterkin sustained a lower-body injury in Friday's 3-1 loss to Washington. He had to be helped off the ice after his leg bent awkwardly underneath him as he fell in the crease. Shesterkin had a 3-1-0 record with a 1.79 GAA and a .927 save percentage in five appearances this campaign. Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) is still at least four weeks from returning, so the Rangers will lean on Dylan Garand and Spencer Martin (lower body), who is expected to be recalled from AHL Hartford.

Shesterkin (lower body) won't return to Friday's game versus the Capitals. Shesterkin was injured as his right leg got jammed into the post as he made his way back to the crease on a scrambled play in the Rangers' zone. The 30-year-old goalie can be considered day-to-day for now, but he put no weight on his leg as he exited the ice, which doesn't bode well. If he misses time, the Rangers are in a pickle since both Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) and Spencer Martin (lower body) are also sidelined. Expect Dylan Garand to get a heavy run of starts if Shesterkin misses time, though the Rangers could also pursue the trade route to help their depth.

Shesterkin will start Friday's road game against Washington, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports. After an Opening Night loss in Boston, Shesterkin has bounced back with wins in each of his last three starts, posting a 1.67 GAA and .932 save percentage during those victories. Across two starts against the Capitals last year, he went 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .925 save percentage.
