  • Kadarius Toney WR | CLE

Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Recovering from meniscus surgery

Toney's knee surgery Tuesday addressed a partially torn meniscus, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

The third-year pro suffered a non-contact knee injury while fielding punts prior to Sunday's practice. He reportedly had a minor procedure on the same knee this offseason, so the Tuesday operation may have addressed other cartilage issues in addition to the meniscus. Either way, it's less serious than most ligament injuries but nonetheless puts Toney's Week 1 availability into question and reduces his odds of becoming the new No. 1 wide receiver in Kansas City. Coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that there's still a chance Toney is ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 in Detroit.

  • Rashee Rice WR | KC

Chiefs' Rashee Rice: Should see more opportunities

Rice could see a bigger role during training camp while Kadarius Toney (knee) is sidelined, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

Rice was picked 55th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, after Kansas City traded up nine spots to grab him. In his last season at SMU, the physical wideout racked up 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns. Toney has an uncertain recovery timeline from his partially torn meniscus, which paves the way for other options like Rice to try and establish some chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.

  • Russell Gage WR | SF

Buccaneers' Russell Gage: Working his way back

Gage (undisclosed) isn't quite back to full strength, but he won't be placed on the PUP list for the start of training camp, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.

Gage missed June minicamp with an undisclosed injury, and while he apparently is still in recovery mode six weeks later, the Bucs don't seem worried about his Week 1 availability. The 27-year-old agreed to reduce his base salary from $10 million to $7 million this offseason, setting him up for another year as the No. 3 receiver alongside Mike Evans and Chris Godwin after injuries marred Gage's first season in Tampa.

  • Byron Pringle WR | WAS

Commanders' Byron Pringle: Headed to Landover

Pringle agreed to a contract with the Commanders on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

After Pringle's disappointing year in Chicago (10-135-2) in 2022, he reunites with his old offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, in Washington. When last playing under Bieniemy in Kansas City back in 2021, Pringle tallied 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns. Expect the veteran wideout to compete for the fourth wide receiver position on the Commanders behind Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel ahead of the coming season.

  • Colts' Michael Pittman: Will be eased back into action

The Colts plan to ease Pittman back into action during training camp after offseason hip surgery, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Pittman missed some time during spring work and says he's 100 percent recovered, but the team is going to be cautious with their No. 1 receiver. His status for Week 1 isn't in jeopardy at the moment.

  • Kaden Davis WR | CHI

    Cardinals' Kaden Davis: Joining Arizona

Davis agreed to a contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Davis spent time on Denver's practice squad a season ago before joining the USFL's Michigan Panthers this spring. After impressing during his time in the spring league, he'll now get the opportunity to compete for a depth role within an Arizona receiving corps headlined by Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore.

  • Lions' Jameson Williams: Dealing with minor leg injury

Coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday he expects Williams (leg/suspension) to miss "a day or two" of practice due to a leg injury, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Williams suffered the leg injury in practice Tuesday, so it's encouraging that he won't have to miss much of the early portion of training camp. The second-year pro needs all the reps he can get, as his recovery from ACL surgery limited him to a depth role in just six appearances as a rookie, and he will be suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season for violating the NFL's gambling policy. The 2022 first-round pick is expected to handle a starting role alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown once he's served his suspension, and if Williams is going to hit the ground running he'll likely need to make the most of his time in camp.

  • Allen Lazard WR | NYJ

Jets' Allen Lazard: Dealing with muscle tightness

Lazard (undisclosed) didn't practice Tuesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Per coach Robert Saleh, Lazard had some muscle tightness, which led to the wideout sitting out the session. Saleh didn't indicate which muscle(s) were the issue though, and it doesn't sound serious. Once he returns to practice, Lazard will look to solidify his role in a Jets WR corps that also includes Garrett Wilson, Mecole Hardman and Corey Davis. Working in Lazard's favor from a fantasy perspective is his established chemistry with the team's new starting QB, Aaron Rodgers.

  • Kadarius Toney WR | CLE

Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Could be ready for Week 1

Toney underwent a procedure Tuesday to clean up some cartilage in his knee, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

As for a timetable for Toney's recovery, coach Andy Reid noted that "there's a chance" he will be available for Week 1. "We'll just see. He's determined that he's going to be there," Reid added. The wideout is slated to have a key role in Kansas City's offense this coming season, but with him now set to miss some time, added training camp reps and preseason opportunities are available for the likes of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Rashee Rice, Richie James, Justin Watson and Justyn Ross.

  • Saints' Michael Thomas: Ready to practice in full

Coach Dennis Allen said Thomas (toe) will be a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Thomas, who has been limited to just 10 appearances over the last three seasons, will begin training camp at 100 percent health after taking part in OTAs and minicamp on a limited basis. After a March restructure, Thomas is currently with the Saints on a one-year, $10 million contract that can go up to $15 million via incentives heading into his age-30 season. While Chris Olave may well be the true No. 1 option for new quarterback Derek Carr, Thomas' ability to contribute shouldn't be overlooked if he can stay on the field consistently. He began the 2022 season with a 16-171-3 receiving line in three games, before subsequently missing the rest of the year due to a dislocated second toe.
