  • Seahawks' Christine Michael: Heavy workload thus far

Michael has seen extensive work during training camp due to the Seahawks' banged-up backfield options, ESPN.com reports.

Michael has seen plenty of first-team action while projected starter Thomas Rawls (ankle) and rookie C.J. Prosise (hamstring) remain sidelined, and has done a great job throughout camp, according to coach Pete Carroll. In fact, Michael's regular involvement has caused Carroll and Seattle's coaches to be careful in not overworking him at this early stage. A tantalizing athlete, Michael has rushed for 446 yards on 91 carries over his three seasons with the Seahawks, and will be eager to capitalize on his latest opportunity for touches while his teammates are still sidelined during the preseason.

  • Thomas Rawls RB | JAC

Seahawks' Thomas Rawls: Close to returning from injury

Rawls (ankle) is close to returning to practice, the Seattle Times reports.

Coach Pete Carroll said Rawls is almost day-to-day with his injury. The Seahawks still are aiming for him to play Week 1, but Rawls likely will not play in preseason games. Christine Michael reportedly has looked good in camp, while rookie C.J. Prosise is out with a hamstring injury.

  • Matt Jones RB | WAS

Redskins' Matt Jones: Returns to practice Friday

Jones returned to practice on Friday, Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post reports.

Jones returns to practice after getting Thursday off in order to rest. The starting back could receive more off days going forward in order to keep him well-rested for the beginning of the season.

  • Ryan Mathews RB | PHI

Eagles' Ryan Mathews: Participates in team drills

Mathews participated in a few team drills on Friday and was removed from the NFI list, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Although he did take the practice field for the first time this training camp, Mathews was limited in his participation and left practice early. He'll continue to nurse a sore ankle, and should see an increase in reps next week.

  • Donald Brown RB | NE

    Patriots' Donald Brown: Misses practice

Brown (hamstring) missed practice Thursday, the Boston Globe reports.

With Brown, Dion Lewis, D.J. Foster and Brandon Bolden all absent Thursday, Tyler Gaffney and James White saw added practice reps. Once Brown returns to the field, he'll look to secure a role in the Patriots' backfield. Assuming he sticks with the team, what said role might be rests largely on the health/performance of returnees LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis, who are both bouncing back from injuries.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Remains sidelined Thursday

Elliott (hamstring) remained out Thursday despite the Cowboys having a day off Wednesday, DallasCowboys.com reports. "We've got to make sure that all the soreness is out and he's ready to go before we put him back out there," executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

This early in camp Dallas isn't taking any chances with their prized rookie, so don't be surprised if Elliott remains on the sidelines at least through the weekend. At this point though, the injury doesn't seem serious enough to impact his spot on anyone's fantasy draft board.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Titans' Derrick Henry: Outperforming DeMarco Murray as pass-catcher

Henry has outperformed fellow running back DeMarco Murray as a pass-catcher so far in camp, Jason Wolf of the Tennessean reports.

Murray was brought in this offseason to be the team's workhorse, but the second-round pick out of Alabama has gained ground on him by translating his elite combination of speed and size into results both as a runner and receiver. Henry's effectiveness and versatility should allow him to see the field frequently in his rookie season.

  • Matt Jones RB | WAS

Redskins' Matt Jones: Given the day off Thursday

Jones was held out of practice Thursday, Brian McNally of 106.7 The Fan reports.

Head coach Jon Gruden said he merely wanted to give Jones' legs some rest and that he'll be fine moving forward. This appears to simply be a precautionary move, but Jones' status still bears watching in the coming days.

  • Seahawks' Cameron Marshall: Signs with Seahawks

Marshall signed with the Seahawks on Thursday, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports.

Marshall was undrafted out of Arizona State in 2013 and has played the past three seasons in the CFL. Last year, with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, he ran for 614 yards and five touchdowns, and totaled 378 yards and two touchdowns receiving. The Seahawks have seven running backs on the roster after signing Marshall, but three are injured at present. He'll look to slide in as the fourth option until the others are able to return.

  • Thomas Rawls RB | JAC

Seahawks' Thomas Rawls: Remains on PUP list

Rawls (ankle) remains on the PUP list as of Thursday, Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com reports.

The Seahawks aren't in a hurry to get Rawls on the field, as the goal is active status once Week 1 rolls around. During Wednesday's day off, the team evaluated his ankle and opted to delay his first practice of training camp. His absence would theoretically allow other running backs an opportunity to stake a claim to at least a share of the backfield work. However, C.J. Prosise is dealing with a hamstring injury, while fellow rookie Zac Brooks (undisclosed) joined the pair of the sideline Thursday, which has afforded Christine Michael the majority of first-string snaps to date in camp.
