  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

Texans' D'Onta Foreman: Returns to practice

Foreman (hamstring) returned to practice for Wednesday's OTA, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Sidelined during last week's OTAs due to a minor hamstring injury, the 2017 third-rounder is back on the practice field and competing for the No. 2 role behind starting running back Lamar Miller. Foreman's weight has fluctuated throughout the offseason, so a clean bill of health should ease the rookie back into a more comfortable situation from a physical standpoint.

  • Vikings' Latavius Murray: Out of walking boot

Murray, who underwent ankle surgery in March, is out of his walking boot as of Wednesday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Murray still won't participate during the Vikings' OTAs but hopes to put in some work at the start of training camp. In the meantime, Jerick McKinnon and second-rounder Dalvin Cook will have a head start on the running back competition.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Returns to OTAs

Elliott (head) was back on the field for practice Tuesday, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Elliott was sidelined for the entirety of last week's OTAs as he recovered from a head injury that stemmed from a car accident earlier this month. Head coach Jason Garrett noted that the star running back was dealing with some head and neck stiffness, so the team decided to keep him sidelined for precautionary reasons. Elliott is now expected to participate in OTAs for the remainder of the week and should assume his role as the No. 1 back.

  • Vikings' Jerick McKinnon: Puts on 11 pounds

McKinnon put on weight while working with Adrian Peterson in the offseason, bulking up from 200 pounds to 211, Chris Tomasson of The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

McKinnon hopes to replace Peterson as the team's lead runner, but such a role probably isn't in the cards after Minnesota signed Latavius Murray (ankle) to a three-year, $15 million contract and then drafted Dalvin Cook in the second round. McKinnon has been getting first-team snaps at OTAs, benefitting from Murray's recovery from surgery and Cook's inexperience. While he'll likely still factor into the offense in some capacity due to his speed and receiving ability, McKinnon seems the least likely of the three to enter Week 1 in the lead role. He had a better opportunity last season, but ended up averaging a paltry 3.4 yards per carry and 4.7 yards per target while splitting work with Matt Asiata.

  • Matt Asiata RB | DET

Lions' Matt Asiata: Signs with Detroit

Asiata agreed to a one-year deal with the Lions on Friday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Asiata, who spent the previous five seasons with the Vikings, will remain in the NFC North as a member of the Lions. The 29-year-old's best season in Minnesota came in 2014, when he tallied 882 total yards to go along with nine touchdowns. With Adrian Peterson sidelined much of 2016, Asiata managed a respectable 402 yards on 121 carries and six touchdowns. He will enter a crowded backfield in Detroit, so it remains to be seen whether he'll make the final roster. The team is likely looking for a bigger back to pair with the elusiveness of Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick.

  • Branden Oliver RB | IND

Chargers' Branden Oliver: Fully healthy following 2016 Achilles injury

Oliver has fully recovered from the season-ending Achilles injury he suffered during the 2016 preseason, ESPN's Eric Williams reports.

Head coach Anthony Lynn suggested Oliver is back to full health, making all the necessary cuts and jukes during recent OTAs. Where Oliver will fit in the Chargers offense remains to be seen, as the 25-year-old has flashed nimble moves evocative of since-departed scatbacks Danny Woodhead and Darren Sproles. Oliver also has been a capable runner when healthy, finishing with 582 yards on 160 carries in his rookie season. More than likely, Oliver's role will be to spell workhorse Melvin Gordon while occasionally contributing as a third-down threat out of the backfield, but we'll gain more information as the team trudges towards training camp.

  • James Conner RB | ARI

Steelers' James Conner: Pulls hamstring in OTAs

Conner is dealing with a pulled hamstring and has been sidelined during OTAs as a result, Mark Kaboly of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Conner's hamstring injury isn't believed to be serious, but he may be sidelined until next week's trio of OTAs, which start back up again on Tuesday. The Pittsburgh product, who overcame both a torn MCL and Hodgkins lymphoma during his collegiate career, is no stranger to adversity as he'll battle for the No. 2 spot at running back upon his return to the practice field.

  • Buccaneers' Jeremy McNichols: Signs contract Tuesday

McNichols (shoulder) signed his rookie contract with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com reports.

McNichols slipped to the fifth round in April's draft after having surgery on his labrum following the Combine, but was initially rated as worthy of a first- or second-day pick. The Boise State alum boasts a well-rounded skill set and reminds many observers of new teammate Doug Martin, who he'll compete for playing time with this season. In addition to compiling 3,205 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns in three college seasons, McNichols also hauled in 103 catches and another 11 touchdowns through the air> He also graded out as an above-average pass protector.

  • Marlon Mack RB | ARI

Colts' Marlon Mack: Makes positive first impression

Colts coach Chuck Pagano has made a positive impression early on in OTAs, Kirk Larrabee of 247Sports.com reports. "He's a quick learner, quick study. He's picking up things extremely fast," Pagano said. "He's got good hands. He's good vision, he's got a nice jump cut. He's explosive, he can burst, good in traffic, and he's learning the protection part of it."

Mack is a big-play running back who set the all-time rushing record at South Florida in just three seasons while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. The Colts nabbed him in the fourth round, adding depth to a thin backfield that features only the 34-year-old Frank Gore, career backup Robert Turbin and second-year player Josh Ferguson. While it will be very difficult for Mack to unseat Gore ahead of Week 1, he likely has a legitimate shot to wrestle the No. 2 role away from Turbin, while Ferguson focuses on his role as the team's primary kick returner.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Suffers head injury

Elliott (head) missed a second consecutive OTA on Wednesday after he was a passenger in a car accident over the weekend, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Elliott apparently hit his head in the "minor" incident, according to Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com. As a result, the team will hold Elliott out of practice for the time being, but he'll still get in some work on the side, per Moore. Even if there isn't technically a concussion protocol in the offseason, Elliott will be treated with the utmost caution as one of the cornerstones of the Cowboys' offense. In the interim, Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris and Jahad Thomas will handle most of the available reps at running back.
