  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

Texans' D'Onta Foreman: Totals 40 yards in increased Week 2 role

Foreman logged 12 rushes for 40 yards in Thursday's 13-9 win over the Bengals.

As expected, the rookie saw a considerable boost in opportunity after playing a meager two snaps in the opener versus the Jaguars. Foreman logged eight of his 12 touches in the first half, when he was much more successful. The rookie tallied just three yards on his four second-half rushes and didn't see any action in the passing game overall, the latter providing a glimpse at the one weak link in Foreman's otherwise impressive skill set. The Texans' backfield's division of labor will likely fluctuate some week-to-week, but Lamar Miller's ability to contribute through the air should be enough to keep him as the lead back for the foreseeable future. Foreman will look to continue carving out his niche in the offense versus the Patriots in Week 3.

  • Bears' Benny Cunningham: Does not practice Thursday

Cunningham (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

Cunningham suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's season-opening loss to the Falcons and has not practiced this week. It seems improbable that the 27-year-old will be ready for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, and he will more likely need at least a couple of weeks to recover.

  • Eagles' Donnel Pumphrey: Not practicing Thursday

Pumphrey (hamstring) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.

Pumphrey was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, but it appears as though he has taken a step back Thursday with his absence. Pumphrey, however, was a healthy inactive in Week 1, and he's likely to remain inactive whether he is healthy or not.

  • Dalvin Cook RB | DAL

Vikings' Dalvin Cook: Heavy workload could continue

Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said Thursday that he anticipates Cook, who saw 25 touches and was on the field for 51 of the Vikings' 65 offensive snaps in the Week 1 win over the Saints, to continue filling a large workload out of the backfield this season, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. "[Cook's] a really good player so we want him to touch the ball," Shurmur said.

Cook's touch count alone would provide reason to be bullish about his prospects moving forward, but it was he did with those opportunities (127 yards on the ground, 10 yards through the air) that should really excite fantasy owners. While Cook's production comes with the caveat that it came against a Saints defense that's been one of the league's weaker units in recent seasons, the rookie's three-down skill set and big-play ability should make him a threat in just about any matchup. It helps Cook's cause that Latavius Murray, who the Vikings signed to a three-year, $15 million contract in March, was slowed for much of the training camp and the preseason while recovering from ankle surgery, and didn't provide much impact in Week 1. Murray played only three snaps and logged six yards on two carries.

  • Thomas Rawls RB | JAC

Seahawks' Thomas Rawls: Logs another full practice

Rawls (ankle) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Rawls was a full participant all last week and didn't end up playing in the Seahawks' loss to the Packers, though it wasn't a total surprise after coach Pete Carroll deemed the running back a game-time decision. Carroll sounded far more optimistic about Rawls' status when speaking to the media Monday, saying that he expects the running back to be in the fold for Week 2 against the 49ers. With Eddie Lacy limited to five carries for three yards on just seven snaps in the opener, Rawls could jump right into action as the lead runner, albeit with rookie Chris Carson providing serious competition for carries and C.J. Prosise handling duties on passing downs.

  • Chris Johnson RB | ARI

Cardinals' Chris Johnson: Will receive snaps Sunday

Head coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday that Johnson is expected to receive carries during Sunday's game at Indianapolis, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.

According to Arians, the Cardinals will replace David Johnson (wrist) with Kerwynn Williams in the feature role and Andre Ellington spelling him, likely in a pass-catching capacity. Any lingering snaps will seemingly be handed to the healthy Johnson, who spent two injury-marred campaigns and this preseason with the organization. In 15 games during the two campaigns, Johnson averaged 4.1 yards per carry and traipsed into the end zone four times on 221 rushes.

  • Cardinals' Kerwynn Williams: On tap for start Sunday

Head coach Bruce Arians labeled Kerwynn Williams as the Cardinals' starting running back for Sunday's contest in Indianapolis, Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.

Arians has already described Williams as the "featured back" with David Johnson (wrist) out of commission, but the vote of confidence is perhaps more solid now after the Cardinals added Chris Johnson and D.J. Foster to the 53-man roster Tuesday. Moving forward, the pecking order will be Williams, then Andre Ellington, so the duo may form a traditional 1-2 punch. For his career, Williams has reeled off 5.4 yards per carry and four rushing touchdowns across 103 totes.

  • Eagles' Donnel Pumphrey: Bothered by hammy

Pumphrey was limited at Wednesday's practice by a hamstring injury, Dave Zangaro of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Pumphrey was a healthy scratch for Week 1, falling behind LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, Darren Sproles and Corey Clement in the running-back pecking order. Barring a Sproles injury, it won't be surprising if the fourth-round rookie is inactive all season, healthy or not.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Availability confirmed for Week 2

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said Wednesday that Elliott will be cleared to play Sunday against the Broncos, but added that the legal process relating to the running back's status could be resolved at some point in 2017, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

After receiving a temporary restraining order from a Texas court last week that blocked the six-game suspension he received from the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy, Elliott suited up in the Cowboys' Week 1 victory over the Giants, amassing 140 total yards. Though he'll suit up again in Week 2, Elliott isn't completely in the clear for a suspension just yet after the NFL elected to file an appeal of the running back's TRO and preliminary injunction earlier this week. It could take significant time for the legal process to play out, so while Elliott will remain active for now, Lockhart's comments suggest that it's not out of the question for a suspension to be in play at some point this season. At this time, however, it's difficult to project when things might be resolved on the legal front.

  • James Conner RB | ARI

Steelers' James Conner: Gains 11 yards in debut

Conner rushed for 11 yards on four carries during Sunday's win over Cleveland.

Despite a strong preseason showing, the rookie back figured to remain in the periphery come the regular season because of the typical dominance of Le'Veon Bell. That wasn't the case on Sunday as Bell was held to a career-low 47 yards while working back from an offseason spent away from the team. At some point, it's likely that Bell will return to his old self, but Conner may have a role in letting the star ease back to his normal snap count.
