The Chiefs promoted Hunt to their active roster Saturday, Terez A. Paylor of KansasCity.com reports.

The Chiefs opted to release veteran C.J. Spiller in favor of Hunt on Saturday. Given fellow running back Kareem Hunt's remarkable debut with the club, the team will air on the side of special teams performance, which is why the 24-year-old Hunt was called up. Do not expect much fantasy production unless there is an injury ahead of him on the depth chart.

Rawls (ankle) is not listed on the final injury report for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Rawls is primed to join a backfield in which Eddie Lacy only logged seven Week 1 snaps. C.J. Prosise and Chris Carson figure to be involved, but there's a reasonable chance Rawls steps right in as the lead runner for a favorable matchup against a 49ers defense that surrendered a league-worst 165.9 rushing yards per game last season. Now that Rawls is back, Lacy is in danger of being phased out of the offense entirely.

Head coach Jim Caldwell said Washington could still remain the team's primary kick returner despite his miscue in the season opener, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Don't expect not to see him back there again," Caldwell said earlier this week. "That's what I would like to say to you. He's a young guy, he'll learn and he'll adjust, and many times experience can be a little painful at times, but it does teach great lessons."

Washington got a little too excited last weekend when he bullishly returned a kickoff he caught six yards deep into the end zone despite his lead blocker clearly flashing the signal to take a knee. After that blunder -- which set up the Lions with poor field position -- Caldwell instantly swapped out Washington for Jamal Agnew, a rookie fifth-round cornerback who's already tasked with return duties on punts. Caldwell said he isn't ready to throw in the towel on Washington at that spot quite yet, though, as the second-year tailback is doing his part to fix his mistakes. However, Caldwell stopped short of declaring Washington the undisputed kick returner moving forward by instead mentioning the possibility the team could rotate kick returners "depending upon the situation."

The Eagles placed Pumphrey (hamstring) on injured reserve Friday.

Facing a timetable of 4-to-6 weeks and without a role in the Philadelphia offense, Pumphrey isn't worth keeping on the 53-man roster while the team waits for his hamstring to heal. The timeline suggests he could return later in the season, but it might make sense for the team simply to keep him on injured reserve unless Darren Sproles is injured. Pumphrey seemed to be developing a bit slower than expected even before he suffered the injury.

Cunningham (ankle) is doubtful for Sunday' s game in Tampa Bay, Zach Zaidman of CBS 2 Chicago reports.

Cunningham suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 1 and likely is looking at a multi-game absence. He may be limited primarily to work as a kick returner once healthy, as the Bears appear set in the backfield with Jordan Howard (shoulder) and Tarik Cohen.

The NFL filed an emergency motion Friday with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, seeking a stay of the preliminary injunction that blocked Elliott's six-game suspension, ESPN.com reports. The league has asked for a ruling by Tuesday and no later than Sept. 26.

The NFL appealed the preliminary injunction Monday and now is seeking to expedite the process. If the league were to get its way, Elliott would begin serving his suspension in Week 3 or 4. If not, the 22-year-old running back likely would be able to play the rest of the season while his case plays out in court. The NFL has already stated that Elliott will be allowed to play Sunday in Denver.

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he still thinks Perine will help the team at some point this season, Liz Clarke of The Washington Post reports. "Yeah, we don't forget fumbles," Gruden said. "He won't forget that either. He's not that type of guy, I don't think, but we'll see. We've just got to get him some opportunities and see where he's at. But we think he's a physical runner, and he's going to help this football team over the course of the season."

Gruden was referring to Perine's fumble in the first week of the preseason -- part of an ugly performance that also included a dropped pass and struggles in pass protection. The rookie fared better as the exhibition schedule wore on, but he nonetheless was limited to special-teams work in Week 1 against the Eagles. Perine figures to be similarly limited Week 2 in Los Angeles, but he could eventually have a role if Rob Kelley doesn't get on track.

Pumphrey (hamstring) could be placed on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

A healthy scratch for the regular-season opener, Pumphrey has been ruled out for Week 2 after tearing his hamstring in practice. Given that he was unlikely to have a major role this season, an IR stash would make a lot of sense for the Eagles.

Pumphrey (hamstring) will not play Sunday against the Chiefs, Eliot Shorr-Parks of The Star-Ledger reports.

Pumphrey did not suit up for the Eagles' season opener due to a coach's decision, but he will not play this week due to his health. The extent of Pumphrey's setback is uncertain, so it remains to be seen whether this issue will cost him any additional action beyond Week 2. Considering that he was scratched in Week 1, his absence should not have any noticeable impact on the Eagles' offense.

Mixon rushed nine times for 36 yards and hauled in one reception for five yards in Thursday's 13-9 loss to the Texans.

The rookie tellingly out-touched Jeremy Hill by three carries, the second time in as many 2017 contests in which he's done so. Mixon found running room easier to come by than in the opener against the Ravens, boosting his per carry average to 4.0 after managing just 1.1 yards per tote in Week 1. With veterans Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard combining for just 27 yards on 11 rushes, there's little reason to believe that Mixon won't continue to serve as the lead back, even if by just a modest degree, for the immediate future. He'll look to build on his Week 2 effort versus the Packers in a Week 3 road tilt.
