  • Qadree Ollison RB | PIT

Falcons' Qadree Ollison: Sits out Monday's session

Ollison (undisclosed) has missed back-to-back practices, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.

A specific reason for Ollison's absence has yet to be identified, but the second-year back's status is one to keep an eye on as training camp progresses. The 23-year-old enjoyed a streak of productive practices last week, but his bid to secure a backup role at running back has been sidelined for the time being.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Turning heads as pass catcher

Dobbins has been impressing as a receiver in training camp, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

The rookie out of Ohio State has been making highlight-reel worthy plays on a daily basis, according to Zrebiec, and some of his most impressive work has been in the passing game. Dobbins has made acrobatic catches in the end zone on back-to-back days and seems to be making a smooth transition to the pros overall. The Ravens ran the ball a league-high 596 times in the regular season in 2019, and even if Mark Ingram remains the nominal starter at running back, there's room for Dobbins to carve out a significant role in this offense. And given the early camp impressions, it seems Dobbins is primed to make the most out of those opportunities.

  • Buccaneers' Dare Ogunbowale: Trusted by coaches

Ogunbowale, who is part of a crowded running back depth chart, is trusted by the coaching staff to handle a variety of responsibilities and isn't intimidated by the competition, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. "That's kind of the way I've been, the story of my career," Ogunbowale said Sunday. "I've always been in competition. That's the way it's always been. I see everything as a competition. Us bringing in more running backs, that's just more people to compete with. Even before that, I had competition on my mind."

Ogunbowale's pass-catching skills were on display last season when he evolved into the primary third-down back, as he secured 35 of 46 targets for 286 yards. However, that was far from Ogunbowale's only role, as he also carried 11 times, recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns, amassed 223 kick-return yards and logged 317 special-teams snaps overall as one of the captains of the unit. The multiple responsibilities clearly speak to how much trust the coaching staff has in Ogunbowale, but he's facing some talented competition in the form of seventh-round rookie Raymond Calais, who brings a distinguished resume as a returner from his college career at Louisiana-Lafayette. Additionally, Ogunbowale faces an uphill battle to see as many receiving opportunities in 2020, considering LeSean McCoy and his 503 career receptions arrived earlier this offseason.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Cardinals' Kenyan Drake: Walking boot downplayed

Though Drake, who was held out of practice Monday, was seen in a walking boot, both the running back and coach Kliff Kingsbury are downplaying the situation, Cameron La Fontaine of 12 News KPNX reports. "It's just some normal nicks and bruises, normal camp stuff. It's just kind of precautionary with him, knowing what he'll be able to do," Kingsbury noted of Drake's status Monday.

For his part, Drake put out a tweet Monday that said, "no worries. I'm good," while pointing out that he also used a walking boot last summer. In any case, at this stage, the running back's availability for Week 1 action does not seem to be in danger.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Misses practice Monday

A minor unspecified injury was cited as the reason for Mixon missing practice Monday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.

We'll look for coach Zac Taylor to address Mixon's situation when he addresses the media Tuesday, but for now this doesn't appear to be a concerning issue, so we'll consider the Bengals' top running back day-to-day.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Cardinals' Kenyan Drake: Spotted in walking boot

Drake is wearing a walking boot while he watches his teammates practice Monday, Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reports.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury used the words "precautionary" and "soreness" but declined to provide any substantial details, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports. While the use of a walking boot isn't a good sign, it doesn't necessarily mean the injury is serious. For now, we can expect Chase Edmonds to see more practice reps with the first-team offense, which in turn frees up additional opportunities for Eno Benjamin, D.J. Foster and Jonathan Ward to run with the second-stringers. The Cardinals are scheduled to open their season in San Francisco on Sept. 13.

  • James Conner RB | ARI

Steelers' James Conner: Back in business

Conner (undisclosed) returned to practice Monday, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Conner didn't practice Saturday, but he's back Monday, which suggests his absence could have been maintenance-related or that the issue that sidelined him was minor. Either way, Conner is slated to reprise his role as the Steelers' lead back in 2020, with Jaylen Samuels, Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland jostling for backup/change-of-pace slotting.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

Giants' Saquon Barkley: Doesn't finish practice Monday

Barkley (undisclosed) "limped off the field" after attempting to break a tackle during 11-on-11 drills Monday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. The running back returned to the field afterward but was held out of the last two periods of practice.

Given that Barkley rejoined his teammates, this appears to be a minor issue, though we'll revisit his status to see if he's able to practice fully the next time the Giants convene. Barkley, the team's undisputed top back, approaches the 2020 campaign as one of the top-ranked players in fantasy football, part of an elite running back tier that also includes Christian McCaffrey and Ezekiel Elliott.

  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Cleared for practice

Gordon (ribs) returned to practice Monday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.

Gordon was removed from Thursday's practice and held out over the weekend. His quick return confirms it was a minor injury, one that shouldn't have any impact on his Week 1 role. Early reports from training camp suggested Gordon and Phillip Lindsay had been working in an even split with the first-team offense, though it's mostly expected that Gordon will take a larger share in the regular season.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

    Eagles' Boston Scott: Rejoins practice

Scott (lower body) returned to practice Monday, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.

The Eagles listed Scott as day-to-day, while lead back Miles Sanders (lower body) is considered week-to-week. That means Scott should now have an opportunity to take extra reps with the first-team offense, though Sanders is expected to resume practicing before the season opener.
