  • Alvin Kamara RB | NO

Saints' Alvin Kamara: Finds end zone twice in win

Kamara carried the ball 12 times for 16 yards and a touchdown and caught five of eight targets for 51 yards and a second TD in Sunday's 34-23 win over the Buccaneers.

The running back celebrated his new contract extension in style, finding the end zone twice in a 90-second span during the second quarter to give the Saints a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Kamara's overall yardage total was below his usual standards, but he could gain a lot more real estate in Week 2 against a Raiders defense that got gashed for 134 scrimmage yards and two TDs by Christian McCaffrey in its opener.

  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Cardinals' Chase Edmonds: Finds end zone vs. 49ers

Edmonds carried six times for 26 yards while catching three of five targets for 19 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-20 win over the 49ers.

Edmonds didn't do much on the ground outside of a 20-yard gain, but he did manage to get his team on the board with a 10-yard receiving touchdown in the first quarter. The production was likely a pleasant surprise for Edmonds' fantasy managers, as he wasn't expected to play much of a role in this one given the team's other offensive weapons. He remains a worthy backup to Kenyan Drake, but he seems unlikely to produce bankable fantasy numbers in next Sunday's home matchup against Washington.

  • Joshua Kelley RB | TEN

Chargers' Joshua Kelley: Scores first career touchdown

Kelley carried the ball 12 times for 60 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Bengals.

Kelley was a crucial factor in the team's offense after the first half, registering all 12 carries over the final 24 minutes. Kelley was in contention with Justin Jackson for the backup job all throughout training camp, and while Jackson did see two carries in the first half, it was quickly apparent Kelley's nimble running style was the more productive option. Kelley was bumped up to the No. 2 role when Jackson left the game with an injury. Perhaps not surprisingly, Kelley took a similar role to now-Broncos running back Melvin Gordon later in the contest, working in a one-two combo with Austin Ekeler that resulted in a couple of red zone carries, including his first career touchdown on a well-designed zone run. Ekeler should still be considered the primary running back moving forward, but it's clear Kelley absolutely has utility in deeper leagues regardless of Ekeler's or Jackson's health.

  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones: Dominates RB touches in Week 1

Jones carried the ball 17 times for 66 yards and caught two of three targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 34-23 loss to the Saints.

While his overall production wasn't impressive, the key numbers for Jones might have been seven and 19, the combined touches and yards produced by Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy. Fournette could grow into a bigger role as he becomes more familiar with the Bucs' playbook, but if Jones maintains his hold on the No. 1 job, better days will be ahead for the third-year back -- perhaps as soon as Week 2 against a Panthers defense that got gashed for 139 scrimmage yards and three TDs by Josh Jacobs in its opener.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Posts 151 yards, TD vs. Cardinals

Mostert carried 15 times for 56 yards while catching four of five targets for 95 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Cardinals.

Mostert struggled to break off many big gains as he finished averaging just 3.7 yards per carry against a respectable Cardinals front. He made a huge impact as a pass catcher, however, as he took a wheel route 76 yards to the end zone to put his team up 10 in the second quarter. Mostert notably out-touched Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman by eight, indicating he should be in for a larger share of the touches this season. He will look to build on an excellent start next Sunday against the Jets.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Tough sledding in Week 1

Mixon carried the ball 19 times for 69 yards and caught one of two targets for two yards in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Chargers.

The Bengals offensive line was overmatched all day, and while rookie QB Joe Burrow bore the brunt of that, Mixon also had trouble finding room to run. Coming off two straight seasons with over 1,100 rushing yards and with a big contract extension in his pocket, Mixon will look for more success in Week 2 against a Browns defense that gave up two rushing TDs to Ravens rookie J.K. Dobbins in its opener.

  • D'Andre Swift RB | CHI

Lions' D'Andre Swift: Scores in professional debut

Swift rushed three times for eight yards and one touchdown while catching three of five targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 27-23 loss to Chicago.

Even though Kerryon Johnson got the start and Adrian Peterson more than doubled the number of carries that Swift and Johnson had combined, it was Swift who easily led the Lions backfield in snaps. He could have been the hero, too, if not for letting the game-winning touchdown pass slip through his hands in the closing seconds of the game. Regardless, the amount of playing time Swift saw should be a good sign for his rookie-year workload going forward. Next up is a road matchup in Week 2 against Green Bay.

  • Austin Ekeler RB | WAS

Chargers' Austin Ekeler: Efficient runner in win

Ekeler carried the ball 19 times for 84 yards in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Bengals. He caught his lone target for three yards.

On the one hand, it was excellent to see Ekeler command nearly 20 carries in a contest that was close throughout. The 25-year-old's longest carry was only 13 yards, yet he was still able to consistently churn out yardage to the tune of 4.4 yards per carry. Still, it has to be a little troubling for fantasy managers considering Ekeler's lack of influence in the passing game, particularly after a 2019 season in which he piled up 92 receptions and almost 1,000 receiving yards. To make matters worse, the Chargers held true to their promise of splitting the load, giving rookie Joshua Kelley 12 carries, including a number of pivotal goal-line touches down the stretch. While Ekeler might be on the larger side of a running back committee, it's clear that Kelley will be a prominent factor in the offense in some capacity, so if Ekeler doesn't see the usual influx of pass-catching opportunities, it might be hard for him to return value on his first-round fantasy value.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Cardinals' Kenyan Drake: Scores decisive TD against 49ers

Drake carried 16 times for 60 yards and a touchdown while catching both his targets for an additional five yards during Sunday's 24-20 win over the 49ers.

Drake found the sledding tough against one of the best defensive fronts in the league, finishing with a meager average of 3.8 yards per carry. He also did little as a pass catcher but salvaged his day from a fantasy perspective with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth quarter to decide the game. Perhaps most importantly, Drake came away unscathed after dealing with injury issues heading into the season, setting him up to be a productive piece of what should be a prolific Arizona offense. His next chance to produce will come Sunday against Washington.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Scores twice in NFL debut

Dobbins ran for 22 yards and two touchdowns on seven rush attempts during Sunday's 38-6 win against the Browns.

Veteran Mark Ingram garnered 10 of Baltimore's 21 running-back carries, but Dobbins was the benefactor of the ever-valuable goal-line carry, scoring on touchdown plunges of two and three yards during Sunday's contest. Ingram was handed two red-zone carries after ranking 10th in the category during 2019, but Dobbins handled both of Baltimore's RB rush attempts within the 5-yard line. If Dobbins can gradually overtake Ingram for first-team snaps, he has the potential to become a fantasy superstar for a Ravens offense that last year set the NFL record for team rushing yards (3,296). Heading into Week 2, Dobbins and Ingram are expected to split reps against a Texans defense that surrendered 166 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown to Kansas City on Thursday night.
