  • 49ers' Jerick McKinnon: Scores in 49ers debut

McKinnon rushed three times for 24 yards and caught three passes (five targets) for 20 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Cardinals.

Tevin Coleman (medical concerns) was limited in unhealthy air conditions, so McKinnon was elevated to primary backup behind Raheem Mostert. It was also the 28-year-old's first official game action with the 49ers after signing a big contract in 2018 and going through multiple major knee injuries. McKinnon ripped off a big 16-yard scamper at one point, but his trip to the end zone came on a swing pass out of the backfield. The passing game figures to be where Jet makes his impact when all three backs are a full go, but it was clear that Mostert (19 touches, 151 yards and a touchdown) is the back to own in San Francisco for fantasy purposes heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Jets.

  • Ameer Abdullah RB | JAC

Vikings' Ameer Abdullah: No touches Sunday

Abdullah did not have a carry or reception in Sunday's loss to Green Bay. He played just two snaps on offense.

Abdullah's role with the Vikings has shrunk this season. While he's third on the depth chart at RB, Mike Boone would likely supplant him if Dalvin Cook or Alexander Mattison were to get hurt and the team needed someone to get significant carries. K.J. Osborn has also taken over as the primary kickoff returner, which will limit Abdullah's value on special teams.

  • Jets' La'Mical Perine: Uncertain for Week 2

Coach Adam Gase is uncertain about Perine (ankle) playing in Sunday's game versus the 49ers, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.

Perine couldn't make his NFL debut Week 1 due to a low-ankle sprain, but if he can shake that off before Week 2, he could have an immediate role because Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) could miss time. It's worth monitoring Perine's practice status as the week carries on. If Perine's able to play, he'll likely serve in a secondary role with Frank Gore as the lead back and potentially Josh Adams rotating in as well.

  • Miles Sanders RB | DAL

    Eagles' Miles Sanders: Still day-to-day

Coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Sanders (hamstring) remains "day-to-day," Daniel Gallen of The Harrisburg Patriot-News reports.

Sanders wasn't able to take the field Week 1 against Washington, but he looks to have a real shot at returning Sunday versus the Rams. Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports that Sanders, who logged three limited practice sessions last week, now intends to begin ramping up his workload. More concrete information about Sanders' health may be made available when the Eagles' first practice report of the week is released Wednesday.

  • J.J. Taylor RB | HOU

Patriots' J.J. Taylor: Logs four carries in opener

Taylor was on the field for nine of a possible 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 21-11 win over the Dolphins, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

In the process, Taylor carried four times for 28 yards and caught his only target for four yards. Though it's encouraging to see Taylor get a handful of touches in his NFL debut, he's still behind Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead in the Patriots' running back pecking order.

  • Vikings' Alexander Mattison: Contributes as backup

Mattison had six carries for 50 yards and four receptions on four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's loss to Green Bay.

Mattison's fantasy value is mostly as the backup to starter Dalvin Cook in a run-oriented offense, so it was encouraging to see him get a sizeable workload in a game where Cook was healthy. Mattison had four targets in the passing game (one off his career high) and nearly had as many snaps on offense on pass plays as Cook (14 for Cook, 12 for Mattison). Cook still had more snaps on offense overall -- 30 to Mattison's 19 -- but this game bodes well for Mattison having value in deeper formats, even when Cook is healthy.

  • Myles Gaskin RB | SEA

Dolphins' Myles Gaskin: Backfield role secure

The Dolphins intend to utilize all of Gaskin, Jordan Howard and Matt Breida out of the backfield going forward, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Though Howard started Sunday's season-opening loss to the Patriots, Gaskin served as Miami's clear lead back during the contest. The second-year pro led Miami's backfield in terms of carries, targets and yards, though Howard did score the team's only touchdown. Matt Breida matched Gaskins' 4.4 yards per carry, but on four less attempts. It looks as though the Dolphins' backfield split could change on a weekly basis depending on who stands out in practice, a scenario which would cause headaches for fantasy managers, but Gaskin could solidify his lead with another strong showing Week 2 against the Bills.

  • Buccaneers' Ke'Shawn Vaughn: No action in opener

Vaughn was active for Sunday's 34-23 loss to the Saints but did not log an offensive snap.

Coach Bruce Arians had his full stable of running backs in uniform against New Orleans, but the workload decidedly tilted in the direction of top option Ronald Jones, with Leonard Fournette playing a distant second in terms of touches at the position. Factoring in LeSean McCoy also saw 25 snaps, it's clear there wasn't room for Vaughn to see action in a game that also progressively made the ground attack obsolete as it unfolded. Vaughn may be stuck in a similar scenario in many weeks this season as long as his aforementioned trio of teammates is healthy, and there's also the chance he's a healthy scratch in any given week if Arians needs to go heavier at another position.

  • Miles Sanders RB | DAL

Eagles' Miles Sanders: Hopeful for Week 2

The Eagles have "decent hope" that Sanders (hamstring) will be available for Sunday's game against the Rams, John Clark of NBCSports Philadelphia reports.

Sanders sat out Philadelphia's season-opening loss to Washington due to the hamstring injury that's plagued him since the later stages of training camp, but he did manage to log a trio of limited practices leading up to the contest. There's reason to be optimistic about Sanders' chances of retaking the field Week 2, though it's possible he could be hindered even if available. Boston Scott and Corey Clement remain on deck to fill Sanders' shoes if his injury lingers into Sunday, with Jason Huntley also around as an emergency option.

  • AJ Dillon RB | CAR

Packers' AJ Dillon: Two totes in pro debut

Dillon had two carries for 14 yards in Sunday's victory over the Vikings.

Dillon played only a bit role in Week 1, finishing fourth among Packers running backs with five snaps. However, he showed well on his limited opportunities, racking up six and eight yards on his two rushes. Dillon finds himself in a crowded backfield in Green Bay, but he was taken in the second round of April's draft, so look for the team to try and get him more involved as the season wears on.
