  • Rashaad Penny RB | CAR

Seahawks' Rashaad Penny: Not likely for Week 8 return

Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Penny (knee) will "probably not" return Week 8 against the 49ers, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Carroll appears committed to not rushing Penny back from the ACL tear he sustained Week 14 last season, even with Chris Carson set to undergo an MRI on what's been called a mid-foot sprain. The decision to allow Penny extended time to rehab likely stems in part due to Carroll's confidence in No. 2 running back Carlos Hyde, in addition to the fact that Penny's surgery uncovered additional damage in his knee. An official timetable for the 2018 first-round pick's return still remains undisclosed.

  • Tony Pollard RB | TEN

Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Held in check Sunday

Pollard carried the ball eight times for 16 yards and caught his only target for six yards in Sunday's 25-3 loss to Washington.

The Cowboys' running game had little success working behind a patchwork offensive line, especially after Andy Dalton (concussion) left the game and was replaced by rookie Ben DiNucci, and Pollard wasn't able to do much with his reps. The second-year back has seen at least eight touches in each of the last three games, but the outlook for the Dallas offense as a whole is bleak heading into Week 8's road clash with the Eagles.

  • Nick Chubb RB | HOU

Browns' Nick Chubb: Could return Week 10

Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Chubb (knee) won't be ready for Sunday's game against the Raiders but will be evaluated after the Browns' bye in Week 9, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Stefanski also said that Chubb remains on schedule in his recovery from an MCL sprain in his right knee. The standout running back was initially handed a six-week recovery timeframe for his injury, so a return for Cleveland's Week 10 matchup against the Texans would put him right on track. When healthy, Chubb stands to reprise his usual role as the first option in a lethal backfield tandem alongside Kareem Hunt, who's on track for at least one more contest as the Browns' unquestioned top ballcarrier.

  • DeeJay Dallas RB | JAC

Seahawks' DeeJay Dallas: Catches two passes in loss

Dallas caught two of three targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Cardinals.

Chris Carson left in the second quarter with a foot injury, opening the door for Dallas to get on the field after logging no offensive snaps in Seattle's last game. The rookie was solid in his opportunities, and he could be counted on more moving forward because Travis Homer also exited with a knee contusion. If both Carson and Homer are forced to sit out next week against the 49ers, Dallas would line up as the No. 2 running back, a role that would yield a handful of touches.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Cardinals' Kenyan Drake: Gets good news from X-rays

X-rays on Drake's ankle came back negative, and he'll now have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Drake may not have a fracture, but that doesn't necessarily mean he avoided a serious injury. He was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday's eventual win over Seattle, leaving Chase Edmonds as the lead man in the Arizona backfield. If he gets good news from the MRI, it's possible Drake could be ready for Week 9 against Miami, as he'll get the benefit of a Week 8 bye.

  • Browns' D'Ernest Johnson: One touch in win

Johnson had one carry for three yards and was not targeted in Sunday's 37-34 win over the Bengals.

Since a 95-yard outburst in Week 4's win over the Cowboys, Johnson's had fewer touches in each successive week. He's gone from 13 touches to nine to four and now one as Kareem Hunt demonstrates he can handle a hefty workload. Johnson's window of opportunity is likely closing soon -- the Browns are at home Week 8 against Las Vegas before a bye week, and Nick Chubb (knee) is expected to return soon after that, which will relegate Johnson to No. 3 on the depth chart.

  • Saints' Latavius Murray: Logs 11 touches in Week 7 victory

Murray rushed 11 times for 47 yards and caught his only target for nine yards in the Saints' 27-24 win over the Panthers on Sunday.

Murray saw just three fewer carries than Alvin Kamara and played his usual role as chain-mover and change-of-pace back, while getting stuffed on a goal-line carry in the process. Due to his lack of involvement in the passing game, Murray is a touchdown-dependent fantasy option who offers some flex appeal in the right matchup.

  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Cardinals' Chase Edmonds: Takes over lead role late

Edmonds carried five times for 58 yards and caught all seven of his targets for 84 yards Sunday in the Cardinals' 37-34 win over the Seahawks.

Arizona had already been featuring Edmonds as its top pass-catching back this season, and the third-year player looks like he could be thrust into a lead role as soon as Week 9 against Miami after starter Kenyan Drake was carted off the field late in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury, according to Mason Kern of SI.com. Already in the midst of a strong game prior to Drake's departure, Edmonds has now upped his season averages to 6.1 yards per carry and 8.5 yards per reception. Edmonds is unlikely to maintain that lofty level of efficiency if he takes on a larger workload, but he would still project to have a high fantasy ceiling as the starter in this dynamic offense. Arizona is entering its bye week, but Edmonds should be a high-priority target on the waiver wire in the event Drake's ankle injury keeps him sidelined heading into Week 9.

  • Travis Homer RB | PIT

Seahawks' Travis Homer: Dealing with knee contusion

Homer picked up a knee contusion in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, per coach Pete Carroll, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Homer took on an increased role after Chris Carson exited with a foot injury, serving as the passing-down alternative to Carlos Hyde. DeeJay Dallas took over that change-of-pace role late in the game, and it turns out the reason for that substitution was an injury to Homer's knee. Homer rushed three times for 10 yards prior to getting hurt, and he'll hope to heal up in time to face San Francisco in Week 8.

  • Kenyan Drake RB | GB

Cardinals' Kenyan Drake: Carted off late against Seattle

Drake was carted to the locker room with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against Seattle, John Weinfuss of ESPN reports.

Drake went down in agony after converting on a 4th-and-1 play. He was helped to the sideline and went to the locker room on the cart soon after. Drake had 14 carries for 34 yards and a seven-yard catch on two targets before exiting. The team didn't have an update on the starting running back's status after the game, but even the benefit of extra time to heal with the Cardinals on bye in Week 8 may not be enough for Drake to get back into game action in Week 9 against the Dolphins. Chase Edmonds took on a larger role after Drake's exit and would take over as the starter if Drake -- who was sobbing with his head in his hands on the sideline, per Mason Kern of SI.com -- is forced to miss any additional time.
