D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE
Falcons' D'Onta Foreman: Gets work immediately
Foreman carried the ball three times for 10 yards in Atlanta's preseason opener against Tennessee on Friday.
Foreman joined the Falcons on Aug. 9, and the team wasted no time getting him into game action. He was the third back on the field behind Caleb Huntley and Javian Hawkins, with backs further up the depth chart sitting the contest out. Foreman didn't do anything spectacular but did manage a gain of four yards and two runs that went for three yards. Foreman projects to fight for a depth roster spot with Huntley and Hawkins for the remainder of the preseason.

Zack Moss RB | CIN
Bills' Zack Moss: Misses preseason opener
Moss (hamstring) didn't play in Friday's preseason opener against the Lions.
With Moss out, Devin Singletary got the start and delivered a strong performance (48 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on nine touches). Moss and Singletary are expected to split carries once Moss heals up, with Matt Breida, who totaled 27 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards Friday, mixing in as a change-of-pace option. Since Moss's injury is considered minor, he has a chance of suiting up in Week 2 of the preseason against Chicago.

D'Andre Swift RB | CHI
Lions' D'Andre Swift: Health explained by Campbell
Coach Dan Campbell said the Lions are taking a "conservative" approach with Swift's groin injury, which is the reason he didn't suit up for Friday's preseason loss to the Bills, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
Campbell added Swift was healthy enough to play if Detroit needed him, but his health concern has lingered, hence the stated approach with his return. Plus, it's exhibition season, so it's no surprise the running back was kept on the sideline. In Swift's stead, Jamaal Williams got the start and mustered just 15 yards on nine carries.

D'Andre Swift RB | CHI
Lions' D'Andre Swift: Sits out preseason opener
Swift (groin) didn't play in Friday's preseason opener against the Bills.
Jamaal Williams got the start at running back but managed only 15 yards on nine carries. Swift's the much more explosive option in Detroit's backfield and should get the majority of touches over Williams once healthy, especially if Williams continues to struggle. The 2020 second-round pick's next opportunity to see game action will come in Week 2 of preseason against the Steelers.

Jermar Jefferson RB | SF
Lions' Jermar Jefferson: Suits up for preseason opener
Jefferson (ankle) rushed four times for seven yards and caught his lone target for one yard in Friday's 16-15 preseason loss to the Bills.
Jefferson didn't find much running room, but at least the rookie seventh-round pick was able to suit up after recently battling an ankle injury. Jamaal Williams got the start with D'Andre Swift (groin) out but managed only 15 yards on nine carries, and Detroit's most effective running back was Craig Reynolds in the fourth quarter. Now healthy, Jefferson should see an expanded role in Week 2 of preseason action against Pittsburgh.

Matt Breida RB | SF
Bills' Matt Breida: Twelve touches in preseason opener
Breida rushed 10 times for 27 yards and caught both of his targets for 15 yards in Friday's 16-15 preseason win over the Lions.
Breida watched Devin Singletary tear up Detroit's run defense for 42 yards on eight carries and a receiving touchdown, but Buffalo's third-stringer only managed 2.7 yards per carry himself. With Zack Moss sidelined by a hamstring injury, Breida should continue to work as the No. 2 option behind Singletary in the short term, though Moss's injury is not considered serious at this time.

Devin Singletary RB | NYG
Bills' Devin Singletary: Effective as starter
Singletary rushed eight times for 42 yards and caught a six-yard touchdown on his only target in Friday's 16-15 preseason win over the Lions.
Singletary got the starting nod with Zack Moss (hamstring) sidelined, but the two are likely to work in a backfield platoon when both are healthy. Singletary was undeterred after having a 15-yard gain erased by a holding call on Buffalo's first offensive play, racking up 21 yards on his next two carries. Third-stringer Matt Breida also mixed in during the second quarter after Singletary had the backfield to himself in the first, but Singletary still provided the second quarter's biggest offensive play, hauling in a six-yard touchdown pass from Davis Webb. Singletary will likely see a similar workload in Week 2 of preseason against the Bears.

Darrynton Evans RB | BUF
Titans' Darrynton Evans: Picks up knee injury
Evans is questionable to return to Friday's preseason game in Atlanta, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Evans limped off the field late in the first quarter but not before taking four carries for 26 yards and gathering in his only target for two yards. He started for stud running back Derrick Henry, who clearly doesn't need reps during exhibition season, but Evans' opportunity may be short-lived. If Evans is unable to return, Brian Hill, Jeremy McNichols and Mekhi Sargent will be the RBs available to the Titans offense.

Rashaad Penny RB | CAR
Seahawks' Rashaad Penny: Could practice next week
Coach Pete Carroll said Penny (thigh) may return to practice next week, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. "Next week should be a really big week for him," Carroll noted. "He's really close."
Penny has missed practice since suffering what Carroll considered a "minor" thigh injury Sunday. Thus, Penny will sit out Saturday's preseason game in Las Vegas, with an aim to get back on the field shortly thereafter. Behind Chris Carson, Penny's pedigree as a 2018 first-rounder likely gives him the best shot for touches in the Seahawks backfield when healthy. But health has been the key issue for Penny in his career, as he's made just three appearances since tearing his ACL in December 2019.

Christian McCaffrey RB | SF
Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Likely sitting Sunday
McCaffrey is unlikely to play in Sunday's preseason contest at Indianapolis, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.
After an injury-plagued season in which he made just three appearances, McCaffrey returned to 100 percent by the offseason program, and offensive coordinator Joe Brady said before training camp that the running back's health concerns from 2020 wouldn't impact his workload for the upcoming campaign. Despite the injuries last season, McCaffrey still racked up 374 yards from scrimmage and six TDs on 76 touches when he was on the field, which is indicative of what he's done in the past. However, exhibition action this month will have to wait until Saturday, Aug. 21 versus the Ravens, if it happens at all before Week 1.
