  • Ravens' Ty'Son Williams: Moves up depth chart

Williams took five touches for 41 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Washington, while teammate J.K. Dobbins left the game early with an apparent knee injury.

Williams' competition for the No. 3 RB spot, Justice Hill, missed a second straight preseason game with an ankle sprain. Dobbins then suffered a potentially severe knee injury on the opening drive, leaving Williams, Gus Edwards and Nate McCrary as Baltimore's only healthy tailbacks. Given the circumstances, McCrary got most of the playing time, as Edwards may now be the Week 1 starter and Williams the backup. If Dobbins' injury indeed turns out to be serious, the Ravens could also bring in more backfield help around cutdown day this upcoming Tuesday. Williams is a second-year pro who spent nearly all of his rookie season on the practice squad after going undrafted out of BYU in spring 2020. He ran for only 1,120 yards in four seasons between three different FBS programs, but the Ravens seem to like what they've seen on the practice field.

  • Matt Breida RB | SF

Bills' Matt Breida: One carry in preseason finale

Breida ran for 16 yards on one carry in Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay.

Breida added two catches for 10 yards on two targets. Though not necessarily a lock to make the final roster in Buffalo, Breida is expected to make the team over fellow speed specialist Kerrith Whyte, who ran for 11 yards on five carries Saturday. In that scenario, Breida would likely serve as a change-of-pace runner behind the slower but arguably steadier duo of Zack Moss and Devin Singletary.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Replaces injured Dobbins

Edwards took two carries for 27 yards in Saturday's preseason game against Washington, while teammate J.K. Dobbins left early with a knee/leg injury, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

The injury didn't look good, with Dobbins going down for a couple minutes before he was helped off by trainers and later carted to the locker room. Edwards didn't get much work Friday night, but he may now be the Week 1 starter and lead back in a road matchup with the Raiders on Monday Night Football (Sept. 13). The Ravens' other tailbacks are Justice Hill (who missed Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury), Ty'Son Williams and Nate McCrary.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Taken to locker room after injury

Dobbins (knee/leg) was carted to the locker room after his early exit from Saturday's preseason game against Washington, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Trainers helped Dobbins off the field and toward the medical tent, where he spent a few minutes before being sent off on a cart for the locker room. He's done for the day after making brief appearances in each of Baltimore's three preseason games, wrapping things up in the worst way possible. If Dobbins isn't ready for the regular-season opener, Gus Edwards will lead Baltimore's backfield in a friendly road matchup with Las Vegas.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Exits with potential knee injury

Dobbins was helped off the field after suffering an apparent left leg/knee injury during the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game against Washington, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Dobbins stayed down on the field at the end of a two-yard gain on a screen pass. He limped off with his arms around trainers after a couple minutes and presumably will be held out for the rest of the game. With Justice Hill (undisclosed) already out, the remaining Baltimore RBs are Gus Edwards, Ty'Son Williams and Nate McCrary.

  • Justice Hill RB | BAL

Ravens' Justice Hill: Not expected to play

Hill (ankle) isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against Washington, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

Hill injured his ankle in the preseason opener and hasn't practiced since. He entered camp as the favorite for the No. 3 RB job, but Ty'Son Williams gets another chance to make his case Saturday night.

  • AJ Dillon RB | CAR

Packers' AJ Dillon: Struggles in preseason finale

Dillon took seven carries for 18 yards in Saturday's 19-0 preseason loss to Buffalo.

Dillon got the start and the first carry, but he struggled to get anything going and couldn't punch the ball in for a TD on two chances inside the Buffalo five-yard line. With starters held out, Dillon and Kylin Hill got most of the backfield snaps with Jordan Love and the second-string offense. Dillon figures to get some carries Week 1 at New Orleans, but the exact nature of his role remains to be seen, as the 247-pounder offers a much different skill set than Aaron Jones' old backup Jamaal Williams (now with the Lions).

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Bills' Zack Moss: Catches TD pass

Moss took four carries for 10 yards and caught one pass for a three-yard touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay.

Devin Singletary got the start and most of the snaps on a lengthy opening drive, but he finished with no carries and two catches for only eight yards. Matt Breida also saw a little work with the first-team offense, and his 16-yard gain was the team's only chunk play in the running game before halftime. Moss figures to be part of a two- or even three-man committee to start the season, with Buffalo kicking things off against Pittsburgh in Week 1.

  • Dedrick Mills RB | DET

Lions' Dedrick Mills: Totals 67 yards

Mills rushed four times for 21 yards while catching four of four targets for 46 yards during Friday's preseason game against Indianapolis.

Mills finishes the exhibition slate with 62 rushing yards on 13 carries while catching seven of seven targets for another 53 yards. While this was a relatively strong finish to the preseason for the 24-year-old rookie, it's not certain that Detroit will carry four running backs on the final roster. If the team does, Godwin Igwebuike seems like the top candidate.

  • Bills' Devin Singletary: Starts but gets no carries

Singletary started Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay and caught both of his targets for eight yards.

Singletary caught a pass for one yard on the first snap of the game and appeared to get most of the playing time with the first-team offense, but he finished without any carries as the Bills unleashed QB Josh Allen for 26 pass attempts on three drives. Matt Breida and Zack Moss also got snaps while Allen was in the game, with the latter taking four carries for 10 yards and hauling in his lone target for a three-yard touchdown. Breida, meanwhile, finished with one carry for 16 yards and two catches for 10 yards, perhaps making his case for a small role behind Singletary/Moss. The muddled Buffalo backfield starts 2021 with a difficult matchup, hosting T.J. Watt and the Steelers.
