  • Tony Jones RB | ARI

Tony Jones: Waived by New Orleans

The Saints waived Jones on Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Jones appeared in the first two games of the season, and after playing just one offensive snap in the opener, he garnered four touches for 20 yards across 32 offensive snaps in Week 2. However, he's been inactive for back-to-back weeks and has been let go to make room for depth at other positions.

  • Bears' David Montgomery: Optimism for Week 5 return

The Bears are optimistic that Montgomery (ankle), who is listed as questionable, will play Sunday against the Vikings, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.

Montgomery was ruled out for Week 4 and was listed with ankle and knee injuries, but he appears to have moved past the knee issue after being listed with only an ankle injury leading up to Week 5. The fourth-year running back logged limited sessions Thursday and Friday after not practicing Wednesday and appears in line to return to game action after missing just one contest. Regardless, fantasy managers should still confirm his status ahead of Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff. It's possible the Bears ease Montgomery back into the mix while they continue to get an extended look at Khalil Herbert.

  • Tony Pollard RB | TEN

Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Traveling with team

Pollard (illness) will travel with the team ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

This is positive news considering Pollard missed Friday's practice with an illness. It's also encouraging the Cowboys didn't call up a running back from the practice squad. Expect more news regarding the veteran's status to emerge throughout the weekend ahead of the team's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Could lose playing time

Teammate Brian Robinson (leg) was activated off the reserve/non-football injury list Saturday and is expected to contribute as part of a running back rotation with Gibson in Sunday's game against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

This isn't a particularly good sign for Gibson's fantasy managers, as Robinson had already been declared the starting running back during the preseason before he sustained gunshot wounds in his right leg that necessitated surgery. While Gibson put together a complete Week 1 performance, his playing time has taken a precipitous fall since with two straight games seeing less than 50 percent of the offensive snaps. Given the three-year starter has been used almost exclusively as a between-the-tackles ball carrier over the last two weeks, a role in which Robinson could completely take over once healthy, it's unclear how the Commanders plan to utilize Gibson. Complicating matters further, No. 3 back Jonathan Williams has been a critical part of the team's special teams, which means the Commanders will either activate four running backs per week or one of them could be a surprising healthy scratch.

  • Commanders' Brian Robinson: Set to make debut

Robinson will be activated off the reserve/non-football injury list and is expected to make his season debut against the Titans on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Commanders designated Robinson to return to practice earlier this week, setting the stage for Saturday's announcement. The rookie had allegedly earned the starting nod during the preseason prior to sustaining gunshot wounds in his right leg, which required surgery. Through the first four games of the season, both Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic have seen work as pass catchers, with the latter registering 19 receptions thus far in 2022. It seems likely the Commanders could ease Robinson back into the running back rotation, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the 23-year-old eventually take over as the two-down back with McKissic operating as the obvious pass catcher. That could leave Gibson completely out of the rotation, particularly since the Commanders have been relying on nominal No. 3 back Jonathan Williams for special teams work, although the team hasn't officially announced how the backfield will operate.

  • Devine Ozigbo RB | DET

Devine Ozigbo: Reverts to practice squad

Ozigbo reverted to the Broncos' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Ozigbo played primarily on special teams during Thursday's loss to the Colts, logging just one rush for two yards across two offensive snaps. With Javonte Williams (knee) out for the season, Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone are expected to split the majority of the running-back duties, though recently signed Latavius Murray also figures to compete for touches once he gets fully acclimated to his new squad.

  • Salvon Ahmed RB | CHI

Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Questionable with back injury

Ahmed (back) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.

Ahmed landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a back injury and remained limited Friday. The reserve running back has been active for only two games this season and played exclusively on special teams during those contests, so his potential absence shouldn't be concerning for Miami's offense.

  • Lions' Jamaal Williams: Set for lead role again

Williams should lead the Detroit backfield again this Sunday against the Patriots with teammate D'Andre Swift (shoulder/ankle) ruled out for a second straight game.

While he played only 51 percent of snaps with Swift sidelined for the 48-45 shootout loss to Seattle last week, Williams accounted for 19 of the 23 carries handled by Detroit RBs and scored one TD at the goal line and another from distance. He's unlikely to find himself in such a wild game this week, but that might work in his favor in terms of snap share at least, and it's hard to argue with the results when he's averaging a career-best 4.5 YPC and leads the NFL with six rushing TDs. Williams again figures to get most of the carries, with Craig Reynolds and Justin Jackson working in reserve.

  • Seahawks' Kenneth Walker: Status up in air for Sunday

Walker (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in New Orleans, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Walker made a sudden appearance on the Seahawks' injury report Thursday as limited due to a shoulder issue, which now is making his status for Week 5 murky. Fortunately for fantasy managers, his availability, or lack thereof, will become known about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if he's able to suit up this weekend, though, the rookie second-round pick will be working behind top running back Rashaad Penny, which so far has amounted to 4.3 touches for 18 yards from scrimmage per game and no TDs in four contests.

  • Breece Hall RB | NYJ

Jets' Breece Hall: Clear for Sunday

Hall (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest against the Dolphins, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Hall emerged from the Jets' Week 4 win at Pittsburgh with what coach Robert Saleh called "nicks and bruises," the result of a knee injury. It limited the rookie second-round pick in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, but after capping Week 5 prep with a full session, he's clear to play this weekend. Hall has been working in a timeshare with Michael Carter this season, but the rookie has earned a higher snap share the last two games, resulting in 33 touches for 170 yards and one rushing TD (as opposed to 23 touches for 75 total yards and no scores for Carter).
