Jaydon Blue RB | DAL
Cowboys' Jaydon Blue: At practice Monday
Blue (ankle) is participating in practice Monday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
The Cowboys are only going through light practice reps Monday, according to Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News, but it's nonetheless encouraging to see Blue already back on the practice field after he suffered a low-ankle sprain during Friday's preseason win over the Falcons. The rookie fifth-round pick has roughly two weeks remaining to get cleared for Week 1. A heel injury forced Blue to miss Dallas' first two preseason games, and when he's fully healthy he's expected to begin his career alongside veteran Miles Sanders in a depth role behind Javonte Williams.

Isaiah Davis RB | NYJ
Jets' Isaiah Davis: Expected back for Week 1
Coach Aaron Glenn said Monday that Davis (ankle) is expected to be available for Week 1 against the Steelers on Sept. 7, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Davis didn't play in either of the Jets' final two preseason contests, but it sounds like he's turned a corner in his recovery. The second-year back played 13 snaps in the exhibition opener, rushing six times for 14 yards. He also caught one pass for 11 yards. Davis is expected to open the season as the Jets' RB3 behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen.

Cam Akers RB | NO
Cam Akers: Can't stick with Saints
New Orleans released Akers on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Akers was a solid contributor in 2024, rushing 104 times for 444 yards (4.3 YPC) and two scores across 17 regular-season games split between the Vikings and Texans. He also demonstrated impressive red-zone versatility, securing 14 of 18 targets for 68 yards and three additional touchdowns. The veteran running back couldn't carve out a spot on the Saints' 53-man roster behind Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller and Devin Neal, but Akers figures to draw interest around the league from teams in need of reliable backfield depth.

Aaron Shampklin RB | MIA
Aaron Shampklin: Cut by Miami
The Dolphins cut Shampklin on Monday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Shampklin signed with the Dolphins earlier this month but was mere backfield depth, as Miami navigated injuries to De'Von Achane (calf) and Jaylen Wright (leg) to close out the preseason. Shampklin rushed six times for 46 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards during the preseason.

Dare Ogunbowale RB | HOU
Texans' Dare Ogunbowale: Projected for 53-man
Ogunbowale is expected to earn a roster spot in the initial 53-man roster projection compiled by DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com.
This is not shocking news, as Ogunbowale has organizational history on his side. He's filled a third-down role for the last three seasons in Houston and served on special teams. He's even been used as an emergency kicker. There could be an early-season bump in activity if Joe Mixon (ankle) opens the regular season on the reserve/non-football injury list.
-
British Brooks RB | HOU
Texans' British Brooks: On roster bubble
Brooks is one of five running backs projected to make the initial 53-man roster, per DJ Bein-Aime of ESPN.com.
There's a big caveat to Brooks grabbing one of those spots; it may depend on whether the Texans have Joe Mixon (ankle) open the season on the reserve/non-football injury list. Brooks has experience on special teams and at fullback, so that versatility could win him a spot outright, but the most likely path involves Mixon being unavailable for Week 1.
-
Jawhar Jordan RB | HOU
Texans' Jawhar Jordan: Leads backs in preseason finale
Jordan had 13 carries for 55 yards in Saturday's 26-7 preseason win over the Lions.
All of Jordan's work came during the second half of the preseason finale, which indicates the Texans are unlikely to grant him a spot on the initial 53-man roster. There may be an available spot if Joe Mixon (ankle) opens the regular season on the reserve/non-football injury list, but that opening could go to British Brooks, who brings versatility on special teams and an ability to play fullback.
-
Josh Williams RB | TB
Buccaneers' Josh Williams: Productive to close out preseason
Williams rushed eight times for 28 yards and brought in his only target for three yards in the Buccaneers' 23-19 preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday night. He also returned three kickoffs for 108 yards.
Williams put forth a solid case in his final bid for a spot on the 53-man roster, particularly with his work as a returner. The LSU product's ability to contribute on special teams could give him some leverage in the coaching staff's eyes, but come the regular season, Williams will find touches from scrimmage hard to come by as long as the top trio of Bucky Irving, Rachaad White (groin) and Sean Tucker is healthy.

Tyjae Spears RB | TEN
Titans' Tyjae Spears: Remains in boot
Spears (ankle) remained in a walking boot at practice Friday, Nick Suss of The Tennessean reports.
Spears suffered a right high-ankle sprain in the Titans' preseason opener against the Buccaneers on Aug. 9, and he hasn't returned to practice yet. The running back has not been placed on the active/PUP list, so there's a belief that he will be able to return to action somewhere near the beginning of the regular season, but he appears unlikely to be ready to go for the team's opener Sunday, Sept. 7 in Denver. If Spears is unavailable against the Broncos, Julius Chestnut seems to be the top candidate to operate as the No. 2 option in the backfield behind starter Tony Pollard.

Zonovan Knight RB | ARI
Cardinals' Zonovan Knight: Logs long TD run
Knight racked up 83 yards and a touchdown on five carries and had one kick return for 27 yards during Saturday's 20-10 preseason win against the Raiders.
In a game in which the Cardinals' top two running backs James Conner and Trey Benson didn't suit up, Knight was the second RB with a touch behind Michael Carter and logged rushes in each of the first three quarters, culminating in a 67-yard TD in which he outran the Raiders defense near the end of the third quarter. It'll be Knight's final impression ahead of roster cuts Tuesday, but considering DeeJay Dallas is all but locked in as a return specialist, Knight may lose out in the numbers game due to Carter's and Emari Demercado's experience with Arizona's system.
