  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Returns to limited practice

Edwards (concussion) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday.

Edwards, who landed in the NFL's concussion protocol following Week 18 action, didn't practice Wednesday, but the running back's return in a limited capacity Thursday offers hope that he could gain clearance for Sunday night's playoff game against the Bengals. However, unless Edwards practices fully Friday, he figures to head into the weekend with an official injury designation.

  • DeeJay Dallas RB | JAC

Seahawks' DeeJay Dallas: Status in question for Saturday

Dallas (ankle/quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Saturday's wild-card game in San Francisco, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Prior to Seattle handing him a designation, Dallas missed Tuesday's walkthrough before sitting out again Wednesday due to ankle and quadriceps injuries. He's been able to play in each of the past three games with little to no practice reps, and Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reported Tuesday that there's an expectation that Dallas plays this weekend. In the end, Dallas' status will be confirmed, one way or another, about 90 minutes before Saturday's 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff. If he's available, he'll be a complementary option in the Seahawks backfield behind starter Kenneth Walker.

  • Seahawks' Kenneth Walker: Ready for wild-card round

Walker (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Saturday's wild-card game at San Francisco, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.

Walker avoided Seattle's first injury report of the week entirely Tuesday before showing up one day later as a non-participant due to the ankle injury that has lingered since early December. With his status cleared up ahead of the weekend, though, Wednesday's absence clearly was maintenance-based, likely to keep the rookie second-round pick as healthy as possible. Walker thus is set to lead the team's backfield Saturday, which has resulted in 98 touches for 450 yards from scrimmage and no TDs over the last four contests.

  • Steelers' Anthony McFarland: Sticks with Pittsburgh

The Steelers signed McFarland to a reserve/future contract Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

McFarland spent the first two seasons of his career on Pittsburgh's active roster, but he moved down to the practice squad for the start of the 2022 campaign after getting waived in late August. The 2020 fourth-round pick was elevated when rookie Jaylen Warren was inactive with a hamstring injury Week 12, recording six carries for 30 yards as well as two receptions for 11 yards during this lone appearance in 2022. McFarland's experience with the team should keep him in contention for a backup running back role heading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Practices fully Thursday

Wilson (illness) returned to a full practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.

Wilson was listed as a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an illness, but the running back's return to a full session one day later puts him on track to be available for Sunday's wild-card round matchup against the Bills. Meanwhile, Raheem Mostert (thumb) missed his second straight practice Thursday, and if he's out this weekend, Wilson would likely be in store for an expanded workload in Miami's backfield versus Buffalo.

  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

Ravens' Gus Edwards: Returns to practice Thursday

Edwards (concussion) was present at practice Thursday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.

Edwards departed the Ravens' Week 18 loss in Cincinnati with a head injury and eventually was diagnosed with a concussion. After sitting out Wednesday's session, he was back on the field one day later wearing a non-contact jersey and a protective Guardian Cap, per Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun. While Edwards has made some progress through the concussion protocol, he seems destined to go down as a limited participant Thursday.

  • Dolphins' Raheem Mostert: Remains sidelined Thursday

Mostert (thumb) wasn't present for Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.

Mostert also didn't practice Wednesday, with a thumb injury clouding the running back's status for Sunday's playoff game against the Bills. If Mostert is unavailable this weekend, added snaps would presumably be available for Jeff Wilson (illness), who logged a limited session Wednesday.

  • Bengals' Trayveon Williams: Serves as return man Week 18

Williams played all 21 of his snaps on special teams Sunday in the Bengals' 27-16 win over the Ravens.

Williams was active for the Bengals' final seven games of the regular season, but he didn't receive any touches on offense over the last three of those contests while Cincinnati had both of Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine available out of the backfield. The Texas A&M product has, however, overtaken Chris Evans as Cincinnati's kickoff returner. Williams brought back two kickoffs for 48 yards against Baltimore to bring his average up to 22.3 yards per runback over 16 attempts during the regular season.

  • Justice Hill RB | BAL

Ravens' Justice Hill: Gets expanded role Week 18

Hill carried seven times for 34 yards in Sunday's 27-16 loss to the Bengals.

The seven carries more than doubled Hill's output (three) from the Ravens' previous six games combined. Hill had moved almost exclusively into a full-time special-teams role after J.K. Dobbins returned from injured reserve Week 14, but Hill as well as Kenyan Drake were able to reclaim roles on offense in the regular-season finale while Dobbins was inactive for maintenance purposes. Hill and Drake then finished the afternoon as the Ravens' lone healthy backs, as fill-in starter Gus Edwards exited early with a concussion. Even if Edwards is unable to clear the concussion protocol prior to Sunday's rematch with the Bengals in the wild-card round, neither Hill nor Drake projects to retain the roles they enjoyed Week 18 with Dobbins set to return to the lineup while reclaiming duties as the Ravens' clear lead back. Hill finished the regular season with 49 carries for 262 yards to go with 12 catches for 58 yards over his 15 appearances.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Finds role late in rookie season

Chestnut ended the 2022 season with nine rushing attempts for 12 yards. He added three receptions for 41 yards and 215 kick return yards.

Chestnut joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2022 season. He was inactive for each of Tennessee's first 11 games but closed the season with an increased role as he suited up for the final six contests. While Derrick Henry will continue to dominate carries out of the backfield in 2023, Chestnut could be a valuable special teams contributor, as he chipped in at least 40 kick return yards in three of the last five games to close 2022.
