  • Tony Pollard RB | TEN

Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Should be ready for training camp

The Cowboys expect Pollard (leg/ankle) to be ready for training camp, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Pollard broke his fibula and suffered a high-ankle sprain during the Cowboys' divisional-round loss to the 49ers and underwent surgery to address the ankle issue. The pending free agent finished the 2022 season with 1,378 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns, and based on Machota's report, it sounds like Dallas is expected to retain the star running back, though it's unclear if that'll be through an extension or via the franchise tag. Either way, it's a positive sign to see Pollard still on track with his rehab, and if healthy, he should one of the more sought-after running backs in fantasy drafts this summer.

  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Could be healthy for start of 2023

Broncos general manager George Paton said Tuesday that Williams (knee) is "on track" for the start of 2023, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Despite reports saying Williams could miss a significant portion of the upcoming season, the Broncos appear confident they'll have their dynamic running back in the fold to start 2023, although Paton indicated a plan would be in place if he's not ready for Week 1. Williams tore his ACL and LCL in Week 4 last season and underwent season-ending surgery. He has made some progress in his rehab and is currently able to jog, per Palmer, but he still has plenty of hurdles to clear before he's deemed ready for game action. With Latavius Murray, Mike Boone and Marlon Mack all scheduled for free agency, Denver will need to add depth to its backfield regardless of Williams' progress.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: Free agency looms

Scott logged 54 carries for 217 yards and three touchdowns across 15 regular-season games with the Eagles in 2022. He also secured five of six targets for 15 yards.

Scott was additionally an important contributor on special teams for Philadelphia, as he amassed 406 yards as a kick returner. The soon-to-be 28-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent when the new league year begins, but he could realistically re-sign with the Eagles on another one-year deal, as he did in both 2021 and 2022. Scott has been consistently reliable across his five years with Philadelphia, never once dipping below 4.0 YPC.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Efficient sophomore season

Gainwell had 53 carries for 240 yards and four touchdowns across 17 regular-season games in 2022. He also secured 23 of 29 catches for 169 yards.

Gainwell improved to 4.5 YPC in Year 2 but saw both his carries and receptions dip. However, with Miles Sanders an impending free agent, there is reason for cautious optimism about Gainwell's opportunities increasing in the 2023 season. The 23-year-old logged a particularly impressive playoff run, with over 100 rushing yards and a score in the Eagles' divisional-round win over the Giants, and he tied Sanders' seven carries in the team's Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. His future fantasy upside will depend heavily on how Philadelphia's running back room materializes this offseason.

  • Jaguars' JaMycal Hasty: Sticking in Jacksonville

The Jaguars signed Hasty to a contract extension Sunday, Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.

The specifics of the extension weren't disclosed, but Hasty, who was set to become a restricted free agent in mid-March, will stick in Jacksonville for at least another season. The undrafted running back out of Baylor was acquired by the Jaguars prior to the 2022 campaign and immediately saw his role increase after James Robinson was traded to the Jets. Hasty appeared in all 17 regular-season contests and totaled 46 carries for 194 yards and two touchdowns while securing 20 of 26 targets for 126 yards and an additional score. He added 36 rushing yards on four attempts and one reception for seven yards across two playoff contests. Hasty will presumably be the favorite for the top backup gig behind Travis Etienne to start 2023, but he'll face competition from Snoop Conner, Mekhi Sargent and Qadree Ollison, plus any additions the Jaguars make this offseason.

  • Commanders' Jonathan Williams: Signed through 2023

The Commanders signed Williams to a one-year contract extension Friday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Williams appeared in a career-high 13 games in 2022, his second season with Washington, and compiled 44 touches for 192 yards but failed to find the end zone. With Antonio Gibson (foot) and Brian Robinson (knee) out to end the year, Williams totaled 23 rushing attempts for 62 yards across 61 offensive snaps in Weeks 17 and 18. With Gibson and Robinson both still on their rookie deals in 2023, Williams figures to garner a similar depth role next season and will remain on the outskirts of fantasy relevancy.

  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Could miss games in 2023

Williams (knee) could be sidelined "well into the 2023 season," according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Williams tore his ACL and LCL in Week 4 of last season and obviously missed the remainder of the year. His injury recovery will be a hot topic leading into training camp and fantasy drafts this summer. With Williams still rehabbing and all three of Latavius Murray, Mike Boone, and Marlon Mack scheduled for free agency, running back is an area of need for the Broncos.

  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Melvin Gordon: Practice squad contract expires

Gordon's practice squad contract with Kansas City expired Tuesday, Charles Goldman of the USA Today reports.

The Chiefs signed Gordon to their practice squad back in November after he was let go by the Broncos, but he wasn't elevated for game action at any point by the eventual Super Bowl LVII champions. Given that Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and La'Mical Perine are the only running backs Kansas City has under contract for 2023, it's possible that Gordon, who turns 30 in April, could re-sign with the team as a depth option. The 2015 first-round pick could also look for an opportunity with another franchise where he might have a clearer path to backfield touches in 2023.

  • Packers' Patrick Taylor: Takes 10 carries in 2022

Taylor had 10 carries for 31 yards and one reception for 17 yards over 14 games in the 2022 season.

Despite not making the cut out of training camp and being waived by the Packers in early November, Taylor still found himself on the roster 14 times in his third season as a professional. With Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon again primed to lead the Packers backfield in 2023, Taylor's opportunities will remain limited if he stays with Green Bay.

  • Cardinals' Keaontay Ingram: Records just 31 touches as rookie

Ingram finished his rookie campaign with 27 carries for 60 yards and one touchdown and four catches (on five targets) for 21 yards in 12 appearances.

A 2022 sixth-round pick, Ingram was a healthy scratch for the first five games before making his debut Week 6. Despite numerous injuries in the backfield and the Cardinals cutting Eno Benjamin in early November, Ingram mustered three-plus touches in just three different contests and sputtered to 2.2 yards per carry. James Conner remains under contract with the team through 2024, but as the roster currently stands Ingram and Ty'Son Williams are the only other RBs ahead of the upcoming season. Arizona's new coaching staff and offseason moves may dictate how much work Ingram is able to squeeze out behind Conner, but the latter's injury history indicates the former could make a much larger mark in his second year as a pro.
