Latavius Murray RB | BUF
Bills' Latavius Murray: Rested for preseason finale
Murray was held out from Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
The implication is that Murray is in good position for a roster spot and perhaps is even a threat to overtake Damien Harris for the No. 2 RB role. James Cook and Harris both got work with the starters Saturday, though Cook came out of the game after a couple drives while Harris continued playing deep into the second quarter.

James Cook RB | BUF
Bills' James Cook: Leads backfield with starters
Cook took five carries for 23 yards and two catches for 14 yards in Saturday's preseason game at Chicago.
Cook had four carries for 18 yards on the opening drive before Damien Harris closed out the series with a two-yard TD on his first touch. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs were done after that, but most of Buffalo's probable starters played another drive or two, including Cook. Harris then played deep into the second quarter, while 33-year-old Latavius Murray didn't play at all. Regardless of how things break down behind him, Cook should be Buffalo's lead back -- though perhaps as part of a three-man committee -- Week 1 at the Jets on Monday Night Football.

Khalil Herbert RB | NYJ
Bears' Khalil Herbert: Stuffed by Bills
Herbert took two carries for a loss of one yard and caught one of two targets for three yards in Saturday's preseason finale against Buffalo.
Herbert got the start and the first carry, but D'Onta Foreman also worked with the first-string offense prior to exiting for the injury tent. Foreman's injury didn't appear too serious, and he'll likely be available Week 1 against Green Bay. Herbert is the favorite to start that game and lead a backfield committee.

Zamir White RB | LV
Raiders' Zamir White: Poised to give way to Jacobs
Josh Jacobs has agreed to a one-year deal with the Raiders worth up to $12 million, per Jeff Howe, Dianna Russini and Tashan Reed of Athletic, which sets the stage for White to work in complementary role in the team's backfield this coming season.
Jacobs had been sitting out training camp given that he hadn't signed his $10.1 million franchise tag, which led to White filling in as the team's lead back. With Jacobs is poised to rejoin the mix, White is slated to revert to a backup role, a context that gives the 2022 fourth-rounder value as an insurance policy in the event that Jacobs misses time this coming season. Jacobs should have enough time before Week 1 to ready himself for a standard workload, or close to it, but if the Raiders elect to ease in their top back at all, White could handle some extra touches out of the gate while working in a Las Vegas backfield that also includes veteran change-of-pace options Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden.

AJ Dillon RB | CAR
Packers' AJ Dillon: Gets five carries in tune-up
Dillon took five carries for 24 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks.
The Packers played most of their healthy starters, with Dillon's backfield mate Aaron Jones being the glaring exception. Dillon opened the game with a 14-yard carry, later subbing out for Emanuel Wilson on the same drive. Dillon's final carry came on the first snap of the second quarter, shortly before QB Jordan Love found WR Christian Watson for a six-yard touchdown. Dillon is one of the better No. 2 backs in the league and should have a significant role behind Jones, per usual, when the Packers travel to Chicago in Week 1.

D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE
Bears' D'Onta Foreman: Exits with potential injury
Foreman left Saturday's preseason game against the Bills to have his chest/ribs evaluated, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Foreman split snaps with Khalil Herbert prior to his exit early in the second quarter, taking two carries for 11 yards and one catch for 11 yards. The Bears then used Roschon Johnson in the backfield for much of the second quarter, and they'll likely go to Travis Homer and/or Trestan Ebner at some point in the second half. Foreman's injury doesn't seem too serious, as he remained on the sideline with his shoulder pads on and was joking around with teammates.

Lew Nichols RB | PIT
Packers' Lew Nichols: Not playing Saturday
Nichols (shoulder) is not suiting up for the Packers' preseason finale against the Seahawks on Saturday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
The running back has been dealing with a shoulder injury since mid-August and has not played in the preseason. Nichols, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is competing for a depth role behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon as cutdown day approaches.

Aaron Jones RB | MIN
Packers' Aaron Jones: Not playing in exhibition finale
Jones won't play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Seahawks, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
The Packers are playing a mix of starters and backups, in part due to injuries and in part due to a desire to keep veterans healthy. Jones' absence seems to be about the latter, as he made a brief appearance in the second week of the preseason and has been practicing since then. He'll next suit up Week 1 when the Packers travel to Chicago for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff Sun., Sept. 10.

Isiah Pacheco RB | DET
Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Could see snaps Saturday
Pacheco (shoulder) is in uniform ahead of Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com and Adam Teicher of ESPN.com report.
It remains to be seen how much, if any, action Pacheco sees Saturday, but Derrick suggests that the running back could see a few touches. Either way, it appears as though Pacheco is on track to be available for Week 1 action, barring any setbacks.

Jordan Mims RB | SF
Bills' Jordan Mims: Out Saturday
Mims is in concussion protocol and will not play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Mims left Wednesday's practice after a hit to the mouth that apparently led to a concussion. He is likely on the outside looking in when it comes to making it through final cuts, but that decision has not officially been made yet. Still, he will need to clear the league's concussion protocol before returning to contact drills in practice.
