Pierre Strong Jr. RB | GB
Browns' Pierre Strong: Special teams only in opener
Strong did not play an offensive snap in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Bengals in Week 1.
Strong operated as the No. 3 back but did not see the field while the Browns were on offense. The former Patriot instead played 13 snaps on special teams while Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford handled all the backfield duties. Strong, who was traded to Cleveland in late August, could see a bigger role in the backfield once he's more familiar with the playbook.

Jerome Ford RB | WAS
Browns' Jerome Ford: Logs double-digit carries
Ford rushed 15 times for 38 yards, had a red-zone fumble, and was not targeted in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Bengals in Week 1. He did not get a chance to return a kickoff.
Ford had a first-quarter fumble in the red zone, but his gaffe did not end up having an impact on the game. Messy field conditions in Cleveland offer an excuse, but Ford will want to exercise better ball security in his new role as Cleveland's primary backup to Nick Chubb, who had 18 carries for 106 yards. The backfield took a back seat to the wide receivers in terms of targets, as only four passes were directed to running backs (all to Chubb). It was unclear how much use Ford would get after barely seeing time on offense in 2022, but the second-year back was on the field for 30 offensive plays (42 percent share) compared to Chubb's 34 and had as many touches as Kareem Hunt did in last season's opener.

Matt Breida RB | SF
Giants' Matt Breida: Gets three touches in season opener
Breida rushed twice for nine yards and caught his only target for minus-three yards in Sunday's season-opening blowout loss to Dallas.
New York played about as terribly as a team can and fell behind big early, so there wasn't a whole lot of action on the ground aside from Daniel Jones' team-leading 13 rushes and Saquon Barkley's 12 totes. With the game far out of reach in the rain late in the fourth quarter, the Giants turned largely to Gary Brightwell, which solidifies Breida's status as the No. 2 RB rather than calls it into question. Nonetheless, there's little doubt that Barkley is expected to work as the team's workhorse back again this season, so Breida isn't likely to see significant action even in more competitive contests.
-
Ezekiel Elliott RB | LAC
Patriots' Ezekiel Elliott: Significant role in Week 1
Elliott rushed the ball seven times for 29 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Eagles. He added five receptions on seven targets for 14 yards.
Elliott entered the game on the Patriots' first offensive possession and maintained a significant role even after losing a fumble on the team's second drive. Rhamondre Stevenson started and still led the backfield with 18 total touches, though Elliott was the more effective back on the ground. The exact split in workload remains unclear moving forward, though it appears clear that Elliott will maintain a key role.
-
Tony Pollard RB | TEN
Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Scores twice in blowout victory
Pollard rushed 14 times for 70 yards and two touchdowns while adding two receptions (on three targets) for 12 yards in Sunday's 40-0 win over the Giants.
Pollard was the big producer on offense with two scores for a Dallas team that looked to be miles ahead of its opponent Sunday. The 2022 breakout star dominated the backfield touches as expected, only ceding touches to backups Deuce Vaughn (6-8-0) and Rico Dowdle (6-24-0) in garbage time of the blowout victory. Pollard will face a tougher challenge when Dallas takes on another opponent from New York next week, but the talented back will remain a strong play against the Jets on Sunday.
-
Saquon Barkley RB | PHI
Giants' Saquon Barkley: Nets 63 yards in shutout
Barkley had 12 carries for 51 yards and three catches (four targets) for 12 yards in Sunday's 40-0 loss to Dallas.
Barkley actually played well on a per-touch basis (4.3 YPC), but the Giants had to throw out most of their running plays in the second half after falling behind big early. Daniel Jones struggled mightily following his offseason contract extension, and his play will have to improve in order for his star running back to thrive. Barkley and the entire Giants' roster will get an opportunity to get right in a soft matchup against the Cardinals next Sunday.

Raheem Mostert RB | LV
Dolphins' Raheem Mostert: Serves as primary back
Mostert rushed the ball 10 times for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-34 win over the Chargers. He added two receptions for 13 yards.
The Dolphins took to the air aggressively, leaving Mostert with a modest carry total. However, he paced the backfield, as no other back saw more than three total touches, and he also showed the ability to be effective in the role by tallying 31 yards and his touchdown during the team's second drive of the game. Miami will likely be in for a different game script in Week 2 against New England, which could mean Mostert sees more work on the ground.
-
Zach Charbonnet RB | SEA
Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet: Notches three touches
Charbonnet rushed three times for 11 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Rams.
Kenneth Walker was the clear lead back with 12 carries for 64 yards while Charbonnet and DeeJay Dallas -- who produced 18 yards on three touches -- picked up the remaining backfield reps. Charbonnet was an effective pass-catcher in college, but he wasn't used at all in that capacity despite the lopsided outcome. It will be difficult to trust Charbonnet until he proves himself on the field. Next up, the Seahawks have a road matchup versus the Lions in Week 2.
-
Chase Edmonds RB | WAS
Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Minor role in Week 1 win
Edmonds rushed twice for eight yards and wasn't targeted in the Buccaneers' 20-17 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Rachaad White and Sean Tucker handled the bulk of the Buccaneers' work in the ground game, with the former comfortably leading the way with 17 carries. That left Edmonds with a very modest touch count, and surprisingly, a total absence of targets. Offensive coordinator Dave Canales repeatedly made mention of Edmonds' diverse skill set in the ramp-up to the regular season, so the minor Week 1 role could prove to be an outlier as the season unfolds.
-
Zamir White RB | LV
Raiders' Zamir White: Two touches in win
White rushed once for two yards and caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 17-16 win over Denver.
Josh Jacobs (19-48-0) dominated the backfield touches as expected, leaving little work for the Raiders' primary backup. White lost nearly all fantasy value when Jacobs signed a one-year deal to return to Las Vegas right before the season, and only injury would change that scenario. The second-year back will stay ready when called upon against the Bills on Sunday.
