Christian McCaffrey RB | SF
49ers' Christian McCaffrey: Hot start continues
McCaffrey rushed 20 times for 116 yards and a touchdown while corralling all three of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 30-23 win over the Rams.
McCaffrey led the charge for the victorious 49ers on Sunday, sparking the offense early with a 51-yard rush on the final play of the first quarter. The 27-year-old looks even more comfortable in head coach Kyle Shanahan's scheme following last year's trade, rattling off a pair of 100-plus yard games with a touchdown in each to start the 2023 campaign. McCaffrey and the 49ers will have a quick turnaround before hosting the Giants on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.

Trayveon Williams RB | CLE
Bengals' Trayveon Williams: Minimal role as backup
Williams didn't log any carries and had two catches for four yards in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
With Chris Evans inactive, Williams was the primary backup to Joe Mixon, even getting snaps on the first drive of the game. But with the Bengals trailing by two scores for most of the second half, there weren't many carries to spread around.

Saquon Barkley RB | PHI
Giants' Saquon Barkley: Hurts ankle after scoring two TDs
Barkley (ankle) was helped off the field by training staff late in Sunday's 31-28 win over the Cardinals, Art Stapleton of The Record Sports reports. Barkley rushed 17 times for 63 yards and a touchdown while catching six of seven targets for 29 yards and another touchdown prior to the injury.
Barkley was injured with New York driving in the final minutes of a 28-28 game. Prior to getting hurt, Barkley helped the Giants erase a 20-0 halftime deficit with a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and a nine-yard touchdown catch in the fourth. Barkley was walking with a limp after the injury, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The severity of the injury has yet to be determined, but even if it's relatively minor, Barkley could have a hard time healing up in time to face the 49ers on Thursday.

Roschon Johnson RB | CHI
Bears' Roschon Johnson: Works as Herbert's backup Sunday
Johnson rushed four times for 32 yards and brought in both targets for 10 yards in the Bears' 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Johnson elevated to the No. 2 role behind Khalil Herbert with D'Onta Foreman a healthy scratch, and the rookie did a solid job with his modest opportunities. The Texas product's overall performance seemingly didn't do anything to knock Johnson back down a peg on the depth chart, so he's likely to remain the main complementary option to Herbert in a Week 3 road battle against the Chiefs.

Khalil Herbert RB | NYJ
Bears' Khalil Herbert: Splits work with Johnson in loss
Herbert rushed seven times for 35 yards and secured one of three targets for a 23-yard reception in the Bears' 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Herbert had a new No. 2 running back mate in Roschon Johnson after D'Onta Foreman was made a healthy inactive, and the two players had a relatively close split in workload. Johnson saw four carries and recorded a pair of receptions in his own right, although Herbert was the more productive of the two overall with a 58-42 advantage in total yards. Given he was solid with his opportunities Sunday, Herbert should have a chance to continue leading the backfield, at least by a narrow margin, in a Week 3 road matchup against the Chiefs.

De'Von Achane RB | MIA
Dolphins' De'Von Achane: Making NFL debut on SNF
Achane (shoulder) is active and will make his NFL debut Sunday against the Patriots, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Achane sat out Miami's Week 1 win over the Chargers, but the 2023 third-round pick is suiting up on SNF against the AFC East rival Patriots. Raheem Mostert -- who doesn't carry an injury designation after battling a knee injury earlier in the week -- is expected to lead Miami's backfield, but Achane's speed could allow him to find success in a change-of-pace role for an offense that remains without Jeff Wilson (abdomen).

Joe Mixon RB | HOU
Bengals' Joe Mixon: Modest results in losing effort
Mixon had 13 carries for 59 yards and four catches for 36 yards in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
Early on, Mixon's runs were the only aspect of the Bengals' offense that were working. The offense opened up in the second half, which worked against Mixon a little bit as the Bengals tried to catch up. He'll hope to get in the end zone for the first time this season next Monday against the Rams.

Dameon Pierce RB | PHI
Texans' Dameon Pierce: Stymied on ground in loss
Pierce rushed 15 times for 31 yards and brought in two of three targets for four yards in the Texans' 31-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Pierce significantly outpaced backfield mate Devin Singletary in carries, but the former, a 2022 fourth-round pick, once again found running room at a premium behind a severely short-handed offensive line that was down four projected 2023 starters. Through two games, Pierce has been unable to come close to matching some of his rookie-season top-end production, garnering just 69 yards on 26 carries. Unfortunately for Pierce's fantasy managers, the combination of the likelihood the Texans frequently find themselves behind in the second half of games, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud's own rushing ability and the poor run blocking in front of Pierce could continue to make life difficult in a Week 3 road matchup against a tough Jaguars front seven.

Rachaad White RB | WAS
Buccaneers' Rachaad White: Strong all-around numbers in win
White rushed 17 times for 73 yards and a touchdown and brought in all five targets for 30 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-17 win over the Bears on Sunday.
White once again served as the clear leader of the ground attack, and he made up for an inefficient opener with solid per-touch efficiency as well as with his first touchdown of the season on a four-yard run early in the second quarter. White's volume as both runner and receiver Sunday is likely close to ideal for the Buccaneers' purposes, although the second-year back certainly has the ability to shoulder a 20-plus-carry workload if necessary. White next sets his sights on a tough Eagles defense that comes into Tampa Bay for a Week 3 showdown Monday night, Sept. 25.

Isiah Pacheco RB | DET
Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Efficient in Week 2 win
Pacheco rushed 12 times for 70 yards and caught one of two targets for no gain in Sunday's 17-9 win over Jacksonville.
Kansas City's other running backs combined for minus-2 rushing yards, so Pacheco is the team's clear-cut top option on the ground, but he was a non-factor as a receiver after catching all four of his targets for 31 yards in Week 1. The Chiefs are averaging only 19.0 PPG after scoring a league-best 29.2 PPG in 2022. Pacheco's opportunities to score should increase once Kansas City's offense gets going, and a Week 3 visit from the 0-2 Bears presents a golden opportunity for that to happen.
