Jimmy Garoppolo QB | LAR
Patriots' Jimmy Garoppolo: Entrenched as Brady's backup
Garoppolo, who dealt with a minor leg-related injury during OTAs, is healthy for training camp, per the Patriots' official site.
As long as starter Tom Brady, who turns 40 on Aug. 3, remains healthy, Garoppolo will be entrenched as the Patriots' No. 2 signal-caller, while Jacoby Brissett slots in as the team's third QB. After an offseason that featured rumors the Patriots might consider dealing Garoppolo, it's clear that the 2014 second-rounder will remain with the franchise for at least 2017 season. Brady has a solid history in terms of durability (other than a torn ACL in 2008), but if Garoppolo is forced into action due to an injury to his veteran counterpart, he'd gain immediate fantasy relevance while helming the Patriots' deep and talented offense.

Jared Goff QB | DET
Rams' Jared Goff: Strong practice Sunday
Goff was sharp during Sunday's practice, Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site reports.
In particular the second-year quarterback connected with Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods on impressive completions during 11-on-11 drills, and Goff has shown especially strong chemistry with Woods through the first two days of training camp. It's encouraging that Goff is in stride with two of his new receivers already. Still, after a dreadful rookie debut, he has a lot to prove before he can be viewed as a reliable fantasy asset in the majority of settings.

Jameis Winston QB | NYG
Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Knee brace simply precautionary
Winston's use of a knee brace during Saturday's practice was merely precautionary, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
Winston was utilizing the brace on his plant leg as a guard against injury, but until head coach Dirk Koetter explained as much after practice, there were some concerned whispers. As was eventually revealed, Winston had actually wanted to wear the brace for Friday's opening practice and had to refrain from doing so when the fit wasn't right. The emerging quarterback did find his secondary to be a bit on the stingy side Saturday, but he still managed to connect on several impressive throws to first-round pick O.J. Howard and prize offseason acquisition DeSean Jackson.

Patrick Mahomes QB | KC
Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Impresses in two-minute drill
Mahomes required just four plays to lead the offense to a score during a two-minute drill at practice Saturday, Adam Teicher of ESPN reports. "You want to get off the right foot," said co-offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. "[Something] that happens in these two-minute drills, when you have to go 75 yards and you need a touchdown to do it, that first play, it's nice when you get a big chunk."
Mahomes displayed veteran savvy early in the drive, reportedly looking off the safety and connecting with tight end Ross Travis for a big gain. He required just 1:05 and four plays to turn the two-minute drill into a score and has reportedly grown leaps and bounds since the early portions of his time with the team. "I tell everybody from his very first practice that he had when he came in and was screaming in the huddle what the play was -- and didn't realize he was talking to the defense -- to where he is right now, looking off safeties, it's a huge leap," Nagy said. While Mahomes will likely need to sit at least one season behind starter Alex Smith, the strides he's made early in camp seem to have him in the good graces of the coaches. A year under Smith's tutelage should pay dividends down the road, with Mahomes expected to take over the reins under center in a year or two. Naturally, an injury to Smith could also expedite the process if Mahomes proves capable of handling the duties.

Derek Carr QB | NO
Raiders' Derek Carr: Practices with team Saturday
Carr (leg) practiced with his teammates Saturday for the first time since breaking his fibula in Week 16 last year, Kyle Martin of the Raiders' official site reports.
Carr talked to reporters about being back in the huddle with his teammates and his familiarity with Oakland offensive coordinator Todd Downing. That stability on offense, along with a better supporting cast in 2017, should enhance last season's seventh-ranked scoring and passing offense.

Marcus Mariota QB | WAS
Titans' Marcus Mariota: Goes through Saturday practice
Mariota (lower leg) participated in Saturday's practice, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Mariota looked crisp throughout Saturday's session, according to Wolfe, connecting on several impressive throws to Delanie Walker and new target Eric Decker. After practice, Mariota told reporters that he fully trusts his surgically repaired fibula. Although the Titans will likely continue to be cautious with their franchise quarterback, it's encouraging nonetheless that Mariota looks no worse for wear early in camp.

Jameis Winston QB | NYG
Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Kicks off camp with impressive showing
Winston looked sharp in the first practice of training camp Friday, finishing the day without an interception, Joe Kania of the team's official site reports.
The Bucs' franchise quarterback got camp off to a positive start by connecting with receivers across the depth chart in what was mostly seven-on-seven work. Winston displayed his usual strong connection with Mike Evans and Adam Humphries, but he also flashed rapport with key newcomers DeSean Jackson and Chris Godwin. Naturally, as has essentially been the case since Day 1 of Winston's tenure, the team's fortunes in the coming season will largely rest on his right arm.

Luke McCown QB | DAL
Cowboys' Luke McCown: Signs with Dallas
McCown agreed to a deal with the Cowboys on Friday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
The Cowboys were fortunate for the latter portion of the 2016 season to have Tony Romo providing depth at quarterback behind Dak Prescott, but it looks like there will be a competition in training camp this year to determine the No. 2 man. McCown, who has played the backup role throughout the majority of his career, will be entering his 14th season in the league. He worked behind Drew Brees in New Orleans for the last four seasons, tallying one start in the process and performing reasonably well in that opportunity -- 335 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The veteran will compete with Kellen Moore for the second-string role in training camp.

Marcus Mariota QB | WAS
Titans' Marcus Mariota: Will work slowly into training camp
Mariota (fibula) will be eased into training camp, which begins Saturday for the Titans, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports. "We're not going to send him out there and 'have at it,'" head coach Mike Mularkey said Friday. "He's still going to have some limited reps, not as much as he had in the offseason camps, but it's not going to be like he's been healthy the whole time. We're going to watch him."
Earlier this week, Mariota indicated he was "ready to go with everything," according to Jim Wyatt of the team's official site. However, Mularkey has different plans for the quarterback as Mariota continues his recovery from a broken right fibula. With time on the Titans' side, Mariota will thus ramp up his workload slowly over the next few weeks, likely getting some game reps during the all-important Week 3 of the preseason, at the very least.

Paxton Lynch QB | PIT
Broncos' Paxton Lynch: Turns heads at camp
Lynch made several wow-inducing plays during Friday's training camp practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 ABC reports.
Lynch has reportedly been impressive during the first two practices of camp, but it's also easy to get lost in the luster of the youngster's big-play potential. Lynch and his competitor, Trevor Siemian, are drastically different players with very different styles. Siemian's safer, more reserved style of play will garner applause when it's humming and criticism when Lynch puts on a show. Similarly, the deep bombs and sprint-outs that Lynch is hitting on now were also what led to turnovers in minicamp. Given what the organization has invested him, any tie in competition will likely go to Lynch, but we're still a ways away from calling this contest.
